I’ve got to upgrade STG to a 4 based on a visit at lunch where I got to try 5 different pizzas. Overall, the crust is very good but not quite as good as I recalled(still gorgeous looking, but the flavor wasn’t quite as good). The sauce is pretty average, but the toppings were excellent. Details on the pizzas(in order of my preference): –Chicken/Prosciutto/Broccoli pizza — delicious. Really caught me off guard with how crisp the broccoli was. –Mushroom — A relatively simple looking pie that packs a flavor punch. This was the favorite of several in our group. –Lamb sausage — good but not a «wow» -*Something* Farms Sausage — Solid. –Salumi — I think I’ve decided that for some reason, I don’t care for salumi pizzas. I like the toppings. I like the pizza. But put them together, and they don’t work for me. This one wasn’t bad, and may be above average for a Salumi pizza, but still my least favorite. The Italian sodas are good, but a bit too sweet for my taste. Lunch prices are decent, with 12″ pizzas ranging from $ 9 – 14. Compared to other places with this quality of pizza, those are good prices. A big eater can take down an entire 12″ pie themselves, but 1 pie would generally be a good for 2 people with salads.

STG Trattoria opened March 2012 in Buckhead in a discreet shopping center not too far from the intersection of West Paces Ferry Rd. and Peachtree Rd. The entrance is somewhat hidden — just walk to the back of the building, away from the road and you’ll find it. There’s an «STG» sign on the sidewalk next to the driveway of the restaurant’s parking lot. STG is one of the city’s latest stylish and chic pizza(and Italian) joints. STG stands for the names of the owner’s three sons: Sebastian, Tristan, and Gabriel. The owner is Brian Lewis, who also owns Bocado in Westside. Chefs from Abattoir and Sotto Sotto lead the culinary team. STG feels more«upscale» and trendy when compared to Bocado, but still manages to maintain a relaxed and casual atmosphere. It definitely looks fresh, sleek, and modern. Like Antico and Fuoco, dining setup is communal. The space is bright and open, naturally well-lit, with semi-viewable kitchens and floor-to-ceiling curtains. There’s a nice(uncovered) patio outside. As you step through the doors to enter the restaurant, you’ll immediately be in the«walk-in wine cellar,» surrounded by walls of bottles of Italian wine. Beautiful presentation. Wine is ordered off an iPad. What I like most about the space is the bar-style seating with metal trays installed into the full length of the tables. These trays, designed for the pizza, increase table space and make it easy for groups to share food. The U-shaped table is cool too. It looks like a bar, but you can sit on either side. In addition to pizza, like Bocado, STG’s menu features local and seasonal fare: farm-fresh salads and veggies, fish, pork, quail, duck etc. Most small plates are priced around $ 9 – 12 with mains at $ 16 – 19. There are about a dozen small plates and a handful of mains at any given time. While that stuff looked very good, I came here for the main attraction: pizza. So far, I’ve tried 6 of STG’s roughly 9 pizzas. I say«roughly» because their pizza selection can change. Like its aforementioned competitors(and Double Zero), the restaurant uses Acunto wood-burning ovens imported from Naples in its kitchen. These things are the real deal and help to produce authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas. Expect to spend about $ 20 for each full-sized pizza. It’s best to budget at most 2 – 3 people per pizza, depending on how many appetizers you get. Here are the pizzas I’ve tried: STG Pizza: Lamb sausage, sweet onion, ricotta salata, mint Classic Pizzas: Pomodorini(little tomatoes), oregano, garlic, mozzarella Tomato, mozzarella, cappicola, basil, chili Tomato, basil, mozzarella, Parmesan Spinach, prosciutto, mushroom, Bechamel Mozzarella, fontina, taleggio, gorgonzola, thyme The pizzas here are good. All of them. At least the ones I tried. In terms of purely the pizza and its taste, Antico is still my favorite, but STG is right behind, followed by Double Zero and Varasano’s. All of the pizzas taste so fresh and flavorful and the crust is delicious — perfectly charred and appetizingly chewy. If I had to choose a favorite pizza from the above, it would be the lamb sausage pizza — tender, savory shreds of lamb with mouthwatering globs of ricotta cheese and fresh, raw mint leaves on top. Second favorite is probably a tie between the cappicola with basil and chili and the spinach pizza with prosciutto, mushroom, and Bechamel sauce. If you like spicy foods, then you’ll enjoy the cappicola pizza. It’s really not that spicy, but the slices do have a nice«kick» to them thanks to the chopped, oily red chilis. Antico is the only Neapolitan pizza place that I know of to have these chilis available at a self-serve seasonings bar. I wish the others would follow suit. At the very least, you can probably ask for these chilis on the side if you like them as much as I do. The cappicola ham is a little bit salty, but that’s nature of dry-cured meats. I like the spinach pizza mainly for its Bechamel sauce. It’s rich, smooth, and creamy. Tastes so good, but can’t be good for you. You can never go wrong with the Margherita(tomato, basil, mozzarella, Parmesan). It’s just a good, classic pizza that everyone can enjoy. Relatively speaking, the pomodorini pizza is OK. If you like tomatoes, this is your pizza. It’s topped with a generous amount of plump, succulent cherry tomatoes. The«four cheese» pizza(mozzarella, fontina, taleggio, gorgonzola) is expectedly rich and super cheesy. Very oily, yet very good too. If you like cheese pizza, go for it. Service is fantastic, from the hostess to the sommelier. Sara is a good server, assertive and attentive. My only minor gripe about the service is it seems the pizzas take a long time to come out from the kitchen. All of the other nice pizza places serve their pies faster. Not sure what’s up with that. Note if you plan on coming to STG for a special occasion, like a birthday party, and bring your own cake, there is a $ 2 per person cake cutting fee.

I just had the oyster with habañero vinegar and can say that the combo with fresh Lemon is to die for! The truffle oil baked chicken sandwich is on the best of freshly baled bread! great portion size and the charred broccoli is also fantastic. Small portions but filling. If you want wine and some oysters and other light fare this is a must try!

Pricey for what you get. The pizza is good, but for the price there are plenty of places I would rather spend my $ 22 at another pizza joint. What kills me is the noise level. As I sat across from my date at the u shaped bar I had to almost yell just to be heard. I don’t appreciate that sort of thing on a date. Also the bar stools are truly uncomfortable. In a dress I was sure I flashed half the restaurant. Get a table! We ordered bruschetta & as delicious as it was, I don’t appreciate spending $ 8 on burned bread! Almost too difficult to eat. But the topping was excellent. Moving on to the staff– I felt someone belittled. They were curt, not kind or friendly like a true Italian eatery. Having been to Italy many times & eaten all over the country, this place is what I call«Americanized». It’s too chic to be a true pizza place– my advice, save your monies for a mode upscale meal at any of Atlantis fine restaurants & stick to pizza from a less pompous place in the Buckhead area.

After dining at cafes, trattorias, and osterias throughout Italy, I came home to Atlanta and was pleasantly surprised by STG Trattoria. My dining pal and I met here for lunch on a Friday. It wasn’t terribly busy, so service was top notch. Our server, Tara, was friendly and attentive. It was a fun surprise to see they had bottled Coca Cola as their soda offering. I should have ordered that instead of sweet tea, because my unsweet iced tea came with a tiny pitcher of simple syrup. The lack of real sweet tea was the only true letdown. Our lunch was delicious. We each got sandwiches. My pal ordered the chicken sausage, which she enjoyed, and I had the capicola with fried egg. The meats were true to Italian excellence, and I really liked the grilled bread. We also split the Caesar salad which came with a great, lemony dressing. In total it was $ 15 per person before tip which was a bit on the high side for a sandwich, soda, and half salad… but we are in Buckhead. Minus 1 star for not having sweet tea(seriously y’all, you’re in the heart of the South) but I’d like to check out STG’s dinner menu soon.

Enjoyed my dinner here last night. I got great service from the manager who was working the bar. Love the Russolo white and Bordeaux Blend wine offerings. Lamb sausage pizza with the mint is really yummy. I would definitely come here again!

No. Just no. I’ve been wanting to try out this place for a long time since I’m in the area a lot for Flywheel. I finally dragged my husband along for a lunch date here and let me tell you — I was so disappointed. Their lunch staffing is awful. The same guy who checked us in(after we stood at the front desk for 5 minutes waiting for him to come back to his station), took our order, and gave us our food. 10 minutes after we ordered, another lady came out and tried to give us menus. We explained to her that we already ordered and she was confused. We wanted to share the Margarita pizza since we saw someone’s pizza and it was pretty big(and we weren’t that hungry). However, when we got out pizza, it was half the size of the other table’s pizza. How misleading. Another table got seated next to us and their pizza was also bigger than ours(significantly bigger!). This place is trendy, but with iffy service, not impressive food, and strange seating, I just simply won’t be coming back.

Last week I was invited to a media preview at STG Trattoria, to preview the new lunch menu. The owner Brian Lewis walked us around sharing details about the wood burning stove and the Italian wine collection. A stylishly casual fine dining atmosphere, I enjoyed Lamb Sausage Pizza the most.

This place feels like a little secret, tucked away behind the St. Regis near Flywheel and Dry Bar. I came in for lunch with a group of co-workers on an unseasonably cold and windy spring afternoon. The little patio outside looked like it could be an enticing spot for a happy hour glass of wine. I was delighted to be greeted by an entryway of classic Italian wines. It was elegant yet warm, contemporary yet rustic. The main dining room was open and bright with high ceilings, white walls, and an open kitchen towards the back. The layout suggests that they have nothing to hide in terms of their culinary techniques. The bathroom was tucked back through a maze of a hallway and seemed to be shared with the neighboring business. A bit strange, but not a big deal. There was only one server taking care of the 3 or 4 tables in the restaurant, but he managed all of them well with some assistance from bus boys and food runners. There were 8 of us in our lunch group, and we ordered a variety of different dishes from the menu: margherita pizza, vegetarian sandwich, calzone… I ordered a fresh arugula salad with roasted chicken. All of the dishes looked beautiful and delicious, and the tastes matched appearances. Everyone raved about the fresh bread of the sandwiches and the savory crust of the pizza. The chicken was fresh and moist — definitely not the frozen or pre-packaged stuff that you might get from a chain Italian joint. The portions of the pizza and sandwiches were just right for the price — not overwhelming, but just enough to have a little left over for afternoon nibbling on the job. The trattoria clearly does a good job of delivering authentic Italian cuisine. I’m not the biggest fan of Italian food after waitressing in wine for a few years in high school, but this place is clean and refined and lovely. I would like to come back for a happy hour to sample their extensive wine menu and take in the view of the gargantuan new apartment building that just popped up beside it.

STG is an interesting place and to be honest, this isn’t an easy review to write because I really WANT to like this place. First of all, the space is AWESOME. Love that bar-style seating, although some of the women weren’t happy about it. Apparently, and what man knows this until you go to a place with seating like this– but despite the hooks placed on the tape for lady’s pocketbooks, not all actually have handles to hook onto. Who knew.(reason 237 why being a woman must suck!) The kitchen is open, the place feels airy and open, if you were rating the restaurant on the space, it would be FIVESTARS, easy. But– ya ain’t ratin’ the restaurant for the table, now are you. Food wise, as Unilocal says, «meh, I’ve experienced better.» First, the menu is pretty small. There are 8 or 10 small plates, maybe 4 dinners, and then pizza. Our party of six went in a few different directions. Some of us shared small plates, some had pizza, some had dinners. I had the gnocchi and it was average. It sounded yummy with sausage and prosciutto until it came I realized that meant it was ground up into the marinara sauce. It was more like fancy meat sauce and a total disappointment. The better-half opted for the fava bean small plate and the risotto. She raved about both. If you ask me, the fava beans were like hard edamame and the risotto was fair, pretty bland actually. The dessert menu leads off with a fantastic-sounding nutella chocolate pudding. Goodness gracious did it SUCK. Barely any hazelnut flavor except for some chopped hazelnuts dropped into the whip cream that covered the small jar. The service was ok. Our waiter was super nice but the bus boy that delivered food would lean into us to put plates down, I mean– body to body touching, not just a gentle reach in. I have no «personal space issues,» this is not a button for me, but it creeped me out last night. Highlights were probably the house bread, the wine, and the company of good friends in an interesting place. Food-wise, though, I won’t be back soon, if ever.

My newest go-to restaurant. Having seen it while at Huff Harrington … decided to get husband to join me for a little dinner. Well — the two of us left FULL of food and drink for under $ 50. Impressive for us. So we keep going back. Can’t get enough. I can’t even cook at home for the price of dinner and a bottle of wine. Next, the ultimate test — 3 women, over 40, go for a weekend dinner. Full on drinks with each course, food and dessert — for $ 120. Some of our options — the gnocchi with lobster, kale salad with ricotta and buttermilk, a margerita(sp) pizza, shrimp/grits, and the list goes on. 2 – 3 drink each. Server forgot our coffees but apologized profusely… Note — early evening is the best time … the young&trendy hit this at 830 and onwards and make it LOUD. It has been full at 7pm and we have been able to have a conversation, but if the young&trendy are there(esp at the end of your table having a birthday celebration — you will not be able to hear anything…) I would LOVE if they had a velvet roped area for large parties so they could be self contained — these folks do not realize how loud they are … The food and service outweigh my annoyance with the young&trendy who don’t realize how loud they are(I was probably guilty of being in that category at one time).

Once you find it, this place is pretty awesome!(Wish they’d do something about that though and put up a more prominent signboard) Were here for a group dinner, 8 of us, seated and served on time thanks to prior reservation. Parking is not a problem her either. Loved the space, the relaxed casual atmosphere, pretty packed even though it was a little later into a week night. We tasted a bunch of thing son the menu — quail, rabbit, chicken, pizzas, beef — I wont complain — it was all cooked to perfection. Bartender did a great job mixing us up some cocktails that were not even on the menu. The lamb pizza was the bomb! Desserts were good too — a bunch of gelatos from honeysuckle, but loved the panna cotta and orange cake as well. Will be going back often :)

STG is easy to miss if you arent told exactly where to find it but I have no qualms with that. I went last night with a group of 7 and had a great time. I started with their Bitter is Bessie cocktail which was quite yummy and reasonably priced. I loved that their beers, wine and cocktails were on an ipad so that you could get descriptions of each. The group ordered 4 pizzas which was just enough to feed our hungry group. We had the lamb sausage pizza, spinach and bechamel, sopressata and tomato basil. All were fantastic but my favorite was the sopressata, capicola, porsciutto, tomato, basil and chili pizza. Great flavor with a little kick of heat from the chilis. The tomato and basil was a close second. A few of us went for dessert and it was definitely worth it. We got the panna cotta trio and the black walnut gelato. the standout for me was the vanilla panna cotta with candied blood oranges. It tasted just like an «adult» version of creamsicle(a childhood fave). Kudos to Executive Chef Josh Hopkins! I was very pleased with the food and the service. Our waiter was great and the rest of the staff was pleasant and welcoming as well. I saw some criticisms about the price of the pizzas but for the quality of ingredients they use it is well worth it. I couldnt eat a whole pizza alone so $ 17-$ 20 for a great pie is not bad at all in my book. I will definitely be back.

Take it for what it’s worth, but I have eaten pizza at Fritti, Antico, Verasano, Double Zero, and more recently, at Fuoco di Napoli(and at sam’s club, papa johns, dominoes, Fellini’s, mellowmush, etc). While they all are yummy in my tummy and the owners have ways of making their pizza unique, as of July 2012, STG serves the best pizza I have tasted. We came here for a friend’s birthday and wanted to order everything but we limited ourselves to only ordering from the right side of the menu, where all the pizzas were. These are the pizzas we ate in order of(yes I show) favoritism 1. spinach, prosciutto and Bechamel, Bechamel mucho!(not really it’s name, just added for effects) I mean it has prosciutto and Bechamel sauce. It’s clearly a winner. 2. Tomato and cappicola and chili pizza, pizza. I loved the extra kick from the chili. 3. Pomodorini. Not really into meatless pizzas, that is until I had this slice of heaven 4. Tomato, basil, mozzarella, and Parmesan. You CANNOT go with wrong with a classic. You hear me?! 5. Lamb sausage and sweet onions. It’s good but I am not keen on lamb. I am really sensitve to the taste of lamb and don’t like the aftertaste. But if you’re a lover of lamb, I bet you would dig in, everyone else at my table did. 6. The four cheeses. It was good. But being meatless and cheesy, it didn’t stand a chance at being on the top of my list. Overall, the pizzas here have a little edge over the other places I have listed because of the dough. I really thought it was a perfect balance of taste and texture. It didn’t get as soggy as some of the other pizzas I have tasted, but it was still soft. STG won me over with their pizzas and I would like to return and try their small plates. The restaurant has a pretty intimate space. You may end up sharing table space with other parties. I like the clean layout. I didn’t realize it until my friend pointed it out, but there are hooks under the table for your purses and murses. The service was good, but could have been a little more attentive. The server was not around as often so we had to wait a bit for refills, questions, etc, but no big whoop. Although the guy at the wine bar was extremely nice and graciously offered to take our pictures. My friend’s dear husband brought cake for her birthday and STG were going to charge us a two dollar service fee for every person at the table to be served cake. I am not sure if this is a customary policy at restaurants. It seemed a little much, but I can understand. I know restaurants have different policies but I had a similar experience at Kevin Rathbun’s steakhouse earlier this year and the servers did not add a fee. I actually just needed a place to put the cake while we were eating dinner. However, one of the servers asked me if I’d like him to slice the cake afterwards. He also put the cake back into the box for us afterwards. it was extremely gracious of the server at Kevin Rathbun’s. Maybe I just had a REALLY awesome server at Rathbun’s. I thought it was cool how their wine menu is on the iPad. Savvy

So my dear Emily R. organized a dinner here tonight, I hadn’t seen her in too long nor been to STG yet, and my new +1 was available. Yes, I’m in! It was so great! I love the space, first of all. I don’t know that I’ve ever been to a restaurant that was once part of a car dealership, but the STG folks really did a super job turning this space into something totally different. One note: it is a little obscure to find — turn in at Lucy’s market and go to the back of the building that used to be the various car places/tire store/etc. Did I mention I love the space? The open feel is lovely — there are mostly communal tables in a big U-shaped fashion in the center of the restaurant in front of the kitchen — but also a smattering of smaller tables where you could have a business lunch or such. Our little group of five snagged an end of the U-table right next to the kitchen. Very cool with the wine bottle displays others have mentioned. And my favorite thing? The shelves with cookbooks under the expedite section. So cool! In my restaurant, we’d have that! We decided to pretty much order and share everything and it was all between good and delicious. The boy and I picked the spicy chicken sausage with white beans app — tasty, but too spicy for me, though he and Em liked it a lot– and the small mixed salad. I only had a couple of tomatoes from that plus a bit of the yummy house-made dressing with it on them, but he enjoyed it. The others shared a bruschetta that looked awesome– I thought it was strawberries but I think one friend said mango plus goat cheese and arugula. Yum! For pizza, we picked three. Margherita, Pomodorini and the STG one with lamb sausage. The margherita was tasty but the pomodorini was my hands-down favorite! Little messy with the tomatoes bursting as you cut into your slice but just awesome. I tried some of the lamb sausage from the STG choice and thought the meat was good– perhaps a tad dry as I think they cooked it a bit too long before putting it on the pizza. The boys enjoyed it. And this may sound odd, but having two versions of basically a tomato and mozzarella pizza — the big differences being the kind of tomato on each and that the margh had basil and the pomodorini oregano — was just happiness to me. We also had to try dessert. Even though no one had met my boy before and I hadn’t met Emily’s two friends, we were all feeling communal by this point, so desserts were shared. I am not much of a dessert person(give me fries over chocolate any and every day, ok?) but I couldn’t resist trying a bite of Andrew’s salted caramel gelato — I love Talenti when I’m in the mood and have always been tempted to buy their flavor like this but know most will go to waste — and it was super! And I’d never had panna cotta before(weird, right? since I spent a semester in Italy and pretty much would pick Italian food of any sophistication as my favorite ever?) so when J started cooing and Emily and Ray were equally smitten, I had to try it. With the blackberries and the creaminess… oh my heavens. So good. It was a lovely night with great people at a new place to which I will definitely return. Josh took super-good care of us and I will definitely make a point to ask for him again! I’m thinking lunch tomorrow. ..

Instead of going for the more casual atmosphere like Antico or Fuoco, STG Trattoria goes for more of the Buckhead-like, trendy atmosphere. When you walk in, you are greeted by walls of wines. Then you get to the main dining area, which is just a huge open space. There are not separate tables. There’s one big C-shaped table in the middle. Because of the open space, it looks like a loft. When you sit at the table, there is a huge stand in the middle. That’s the pizza stand. For pizza eating, it seems useful. But to share other dishes, it felt clumsy. Sharing the dining space is the pizza kitchen. They seem to have another kitchen in the back for the non-pizza dishes. The pizza kitchen sports two wood burning ovens, and you can watch the pizzaioli make pizzas. They have a cool iPad to order drinks. To order regular food, it was the old-school system where you tell your server and he gets it for you. I don’t know why they separated that out. They should just have kept one method. We ordered some pork meatballs. The meatballs tasted dry. When we combined the meatballs with the tomato sauce and parmesan it came with, It did have decent flavor. The sauce did taste good. We also ordered a Margherita pizza and one of the STG pizzas. The pizzas came out looking beautiful. The chart spots on the dough looked awesome. They arranged the toppings in a way to give a nice visual effect. I think STG makes one of the better looking pizzas in Atlanta. After eating our pizzas, I looked at the other pizzas coming out and made me hungry again because they looked so good. The Margherita tasted delicious. I did find it too sweet at certain places though. It also had the soggy middle problem. Due to the type of dough, soggy middles are common in Margherita pizzas. Although it could be just the technique of baking. They need to put all the toppings on in under 15 seconds and immediately cook it in the hot oven. I wasn’t impressed with the STG pizza. The toppings we chose were sausage, tomato, rapini, and mozzarella. It’s suppose to come with chili also, but since we had people who can’t handle the heat, we decided to remove the chili. I don’t know if that was a bad idea or not. The taste of the rapini overpowered the whole pie. It tasted bitter. Therefore, we didn’t like it. But like I said, I don’t know if the chili would’ve balanced out the flavors. The pies are big enough for 2 people to share. If you’re really hungry, 1 person may eat a whole pie. But I suggest 2 people to eat 1 pie if you don’t want to overeat. The pizzaioli gave us a free Margherita because they burned one section of our original Margherita. I thought that was cool of them. Even though the back of the house acted cool, the front of the house didn’t. Our server was hard to track down. It felt like he was ignoring us, until it was time for us to pay. It did seem busy there, but I don’t know if that was a good excuse to make us feel ignored. I enjoyed it. I give it about 3.75 stars. They do need to fix their service issue.

Jeremy H. pretty much summed up our dine in experience — see his review above. We actually carried out from STG the other night, so I thought I’d go ahead and review that as well. We weren’t sure if they would do carry out — it wasn’t on their site — but we had just gotten back from vacation and just felt like watching a movie and eating pizza so we decided to stay in and give it a try. STG was awesome when we called and just asked for a pickup order — totally was not a problem. Similar to the first time, we ordered the lamb sausage pizza. It totally lived up to our expectations from our previous dine in experience at STG. Crust was perfect, ingredients were fresh & very tasty. We also ordered the field greens salad. It was also quite excellent. I have no clue what kind of dressing it had on it, but it was so good I used my pizza crust to soak up the leftovers when I had finished my salad and that was AWESOME. Overall we have been very impressed and pleased by STG. Both dine in and carry out have been wonderful. They have such interesting and delicious choices on their menu that I’m sure we will be back many more times. We will have to venture away from the lamb pizza eventually though. It is amazing, but I can’t wait to try everything else as well!

Good luck finding this place! It’s at the end of a shopping center(which I thought was dead) and around the corner where there’s a small side sign saying«STG Trattoria» and a front door that doesn’t look inviting. Put it into your GPS and drive to the end of of the building, just look for the umbrellas on their patio. There’s plenty of paking in their lot. Next, you walk in to both walls covered with wine and a whiff of the delcious foods. The small bar is to the left and the small restaurant has long high top tables and a few regular tables. Then, the simple menu of apps, pasta, and pizza with drink specials on the back, brought to us by our bubbly server. She didn’t seem too knowledgable in answering a couple of our questions. I had the STG local salad, spring vegetables, balsamic for $ 7 which is a refreshing blend of carrots, beets, and cucumbers on a bed of large lettuce leaves with a viniagarette dressing… delicious! For dinner we had the Pomodorini, little tomatoes, oregano, garlic, mozzarella for $ 17 which was so bland and soggy. The bland sauce reminded me of Antico’s drippy, bland pizza sauce. The tomatoes were bulky and garlic were miniscule but the oregano was fresh. The crust was a little burnt and bland.

STG Trattoria is a new trendy pizza joint in Buckhead opened by Brian Lewis of Bocado. We are picky about our pizza, so when we heard there was a new pizza place in our neighborhood we had to give it a try. The location is pretty tough to find at the moment — it’s on the south side of West Paces Ferry, west of Peachtree, in the parking lot that’s between the St Regis and the Atlanta History Museum. STG is located in the back corner of that parking lot and has a tiny sign hanging over the door. I hope they add better signs in the future. The atmosphere is minimalist/trendy with concrete floors, a large amount of hightop long, shared tables, hanging lights, and some more cozy tables off to the side. You enter the restaurant through a tunnel-like hallway with wine covering the walls. The first question we were asked when entering is if we wanted to go ahead and pick out a bottle of wine — which of course we did! They fetched Brian to personally help us pick out wine for our meal. All of their wine is Italian and not marked up very high — we went with his first recommendation, which was a very reasonable $ 24 bottle. They have a variety of small plates including braised octopus, meatballs and some inventive bruschettas(but not the classic version). We ordered the pea and prosciutto bruschetta to start — the peas were smashed and spread in a sweet, creamy paste on the toast with the prosciutto on top — it was actually quite delicious. For pizzas we couldn’t decide and so got two of them — a lamb sausage pizza and a meatball pizza that they affectionally refer to as lasagna pizza. STG has two of the giant 5000lb Naples-imported, wood burning ovens — the same ones Antico has. The service was great and the food came out quickly — but they weren’t too busy the night we were there. The pizza was exceptional — the crust was slightly charred and had a nice chew, but was pretty crisp and not too chewy. There wasn’t too much or little sauce and it tasted very good — a little sweetness but not too sweet. My favorite was the lamb sausage pizza which also had red onion, ricotta salatta and mint. Very tasty!(and not too strong lamb tasting if you’re worried about that). The meatball pizza was also really good too, if you want a «safer» option. They also had a four cheese pizza including gorgonzola that I was itching to try — oh well, next time! The pizza prices ranged from $ 17 – 21 — but could be split by 3 – 4 people so really not too bad and par for the course for this type of pizza. We really enjoyed our STG experience and most importantly the pizza — so we’ll be back to try it again soon. Definitely check out and support this excellent new restaurant!
