What a fun event despite the downpour of rain that decided to try and poil it for us — thank goodness this was a mostly tented soirée.
So many wines and not enough tolerance? There were wines representing all over the country and beyond and I tasted a lot of them. We made our way from station to station and some of the pourers had cheese pairings to go along with it.
A couple of small complaints:
The pours were inconsistant. Some poured a sip or two, while others poured a half of a glass. At that rate, I would have been drunk too fast with no food to compensate.
Only about ¹⁄₃ of the stations (that might be generous) had cheese to pair with the wines. And those that did, did not always tell you which wine it went best with.
Some of the pourers were not well trained. Glass snatching from your hand, demands to place the glass on the table. That being said, some of them were the most friendly and polite people and I would want to hang out with them. Clearly, two schools of thought there.
Overall it was a fun event, but when the rain stopped and the heat hit, the steamy, humid temps were enough to send people packing. Unfortunately, this did not make for a pleasant time to be standing around drinking and eating cheese that began to perspire. Maybe next time, have this event in April or May?
