This Salon was recommended to me by a friend for it’s reasonable prices. I’ve had a hard time finding a stylist who can do Black hair for a price I can afford on a regular basis, so I was open to suggestions.
The first thing that impressed me about Jakote was that I was able to get an appointment on short notice. I called my friend’s stylist Crystal, a day before I needed to get my hair done and she was able to squeeze me in. Once arriving at the salon, I was a little apprehensive about the neighborhood because it is near the West End area of Atlanta, and it can be a little sketchy in some areas. However, the salon is off of MLK and in a well-​populated spot, so I felt pretty safe. I went into my appointment and the physical part of the salon was average looking. It is a small building in a short row of connected businesses. My stylist Crystal saw me quickly and gave me a good wash and deep condition. I was getting just a wash and style, so she wrapped my hair and sat me under the dryer. Once my dryer cycle was done, Crystal was very prompt to start styling my hair. Though she had several clients while I was there, she never kept any of us waiting for longer than 5 or 10 minutes. It took her about 20 minutes to style my hair, I was very pleased with it. I don’t remember what brand of styling products she used, but I do remember that it was a quality brand. She also gave me some advice on quality products to use for my edges which had a little breakage (I used the product and it totally worked). Another bonus is that Crystal is a great conversationalist, but doesn’t talk you to death. Anyways, my wash and style was $ 35…a great price (I asked about the price for a relaxer and style for future visits and the price is $ 60). The only random thing about my experience was when people came in the shop selling random things like socks, cases of soda, sketches of Obama (just like in the movie Barbershop). Sooo, all things being considered… I highly recommend this salon, it’s affordable, my stylist Crystal was super nice, she’s fast, and she does great hair.
