Tried Fontaine’s while in the Highlands. It simply was the best service and food we can remember. Franco was our waiter, and made us totally feel at home. The caprese salad was the best we have ever hd.

First, we went in during kinda dead hours on a Sunday night so maybe take this with a grain of salt but our service was fantastic. Our waiter was personable and had tons of great recommendations on the food. Second, the oysters were awesome. We got some great Blue Point Oysters that were really tasty. I would stay away from whatever vinegar they serve it with, not my cup of tea. For my entrée I got the jambalaya — it’s fairly spicy but has great flavor and a huge portion size. Don’t sleep on the fried pickles and $ 4 bloody mary’s on sunday.

Fontaine’s is a pretty awesome addition to the Virginia Highlands Neighborhood! It has free valet parking located just past the fire house and has plenty of seating both inside and out. Decorated like an oyster house on the coast while maintaining a neighborhood oyster bar and seafood restaurant ambience. Best part about it l, Tuesdays are oyster night! For oyster night they serve a dozen house oysters for 7 bucks! The have an ample local beer selection as well as wine and cocktails. As far as seating goes you can sit at shucking bar by the front door where you can stand and talk with the regulars while shone shucks oysters for you, or belly up to the bar, or grab a table inside or out! The deck is heated and very cozy even for the rare cold Atlanta nights! Our server was very attentive and took excellent care of us! For two dozen oysters for our group and two beers I spent 13 dollars! The oysters are not the best I have ever had but excellent for the price it would definitely be a go to for Tuesday night oysters!

Food was very bland. Fried crab balls and grilled shrimp. The reviews led me here but I was NOT sold. Service was great

One of my favorite places in Atlanta. Best place for oysters and Shone the oyster shocker is a great guy. It may look a little dark but the staff is very friendly and in the summer with the windows open it’s a great place to get oysters and a beer. And their lobster bisque is amazing

I came here for my friends birthday. We ate in the front room. It was perfect for our group of 20. The service was not great, but the food was. My friend(birthday girl) basically fought with her boyfriend the whole time so Sarah and I put some music on from the jukebox(hotline bling) and it made her feel better. They also had very delicious lemon drop shots. I got the lobster roll and it was V good. Oh yeah I also had the oysters for an appetizer. 3⁄5 stars for that. I will probably be back in the spring when I can sit on the patio. xo crab legs

Unfortunately it took me a while to identify the smell that was lingering throughout the restaurant. We order our oysters and started eating still thinking«what is that smell» After the first round of picking shards of oyster shell from my not so fresh oyster meat i started to think«is that cat pee» as the next round came my mind had locked on to the smell like a gator on a chicken, cat pee! I could no longer eat and there was a plate if rubbery off tasting oysters in front of me. I graciously pretended to be full and allowed my companion to chow down while thinking all the places that cat must have peed for them not to be able to banish the smell! Sorry pee pee palace, I will not be back.

The raw oysters are good and they are a descent price. The lobster bisque is a staple(for me, at least). The ambiance is ok… nothing fancy. but, it’s great for a casual date. There has never been a wait during the times that I have been. I’ve recommended this place a few times.

I came here to meet a new friend. This place is located on the corner of Highlands and Virginia. Not a hard place to find. We were seated on the patio, which I really liked on a nice day. We just ordered some beer and tried out their $ 7 dollar dozen oyster. I have to agree with a lot of Unilocalers, the quality of these oysters aren’t great and they are not cleaned super well. You are really getting what you’re paid for is how I see it. The staff are friendly, and periodically came back to see how we were doing. It’s a cool place with really good outdoor patio seating and a casual vibe, which makes it a pretty good hangout place(just maybe not the best for dining)!

Yay! I’m a fan… Due to my inherent obsession with oysters, I often find myself scouting out oyster deals… You cannot beat Fontaine’s combination of $ 7/dozen oysters and the quality of the Gulf’s they use for the deal, which is evident as most decent restaurants nearby are empty as you stroll down Highland Avenue. Because our party of four was extremely hungry after a 2.5 mile hike and because one individual was not inclined to raw oysters, we ordered two appetizers to help fill us up – fried pickles and fried calamari — that came out less than five minutes after our order was placed. I wouldn’t say the pickles were the best I’ve ever had, but the calamari is served in an interesting and delicious manner. Shortly after, our dozens started coming out… Our party ended up ordering six dozen raw oysters, even my friend who was never a fan of oysters joined the rest of us! Despite the quick service of food, neither the host nor the waiter seemed very interested in providing an over-the-top excellent experience. I understand if the place was super busy, but we walked in at around 6:00 on Tuesday afternoon, when all tables were full, but there was not a crowd blocking the entryway. Needless to say, the hostess did not address me as I patiently waited for a party of two standing off to the side to have a chance to talk with her. Come to find out after waiting about 10 minutes at the door and having to approach the stand and basically wave at her, the couple already had their name down, and the hostess was blatantly ignoring me the entire time. I guess the food compensated the service because I would come back for the oyster deal as well as one of their many other weeknight specials.

Went here for their oyster special. I read that they are only good for their oysters, and their oysters are TERRIBLE. The oysters were extremely dirty, covered in black grime and they had sand/grit inside the meat. I saw how they shucked the oysters, and they basically serve them out of the box that the oysters were shipped with. A simple wash would have been nice, and it was disgusting having the black grime(I don’t even know what it was) caking our fingers and mouths. The oysters themselves were very underwhelming. They did not have a sweet-buttery taste that I love in oysters, and they pretty much didn’t taste like anything. It is a bad sign when you have to use saltines as a chaser for your oysters. Bad oysters that haven’t been cleaned are not for me.

If you come here at all, come here for the oysters especially on Tuesday when they have a special for it. Fontaines offer a nice divey atmosphere with a pretty chill vibe to the place. Indoor and outdoor seating, you can’t go wrong with either, since they both offer some nice scenery. My Recommendations: –Oysters(Tuesday Special $ 7 for a dozen). Menu:

Fontaine’s Oyster House is a good example of a first impression gone wrong. It was our first visit and I was excited because everywhere I turned I saw NOLA. The tall front door reminiscent of those in the French Quarter… a street musician playing a violin near the entrance… the low lit interior… a portrait of a voodoo woman and Mardi Gras posters on the walls. I thought that would mean an authentic taste of Louisiana. Wrong. My cup of Seafood Gumbo was edible but too tomatoey. The Crawfish Étouffée wasn’t étouffée at all. It was supposed to be crawfish smothered in a slow cooked, full-bodied gravy over steamed rice. Instead, the crustaceans were sitting with quick-stir vegetables on a bed of dehydrated rice. The gravy was MIA. The flavor was nonexistent. I couldn’t get past the first bite so our server, Aimee, took it back to the kitchen. Then I ordered Blackened Chicken Alfredo thinking it was impossible to mess up alfredo. It was so peppery that I had to air out my tongue between bites. I couldn’t taste any of the other flavors and left most of it sitting on the plate. Two stars because, to be fair, my guy LOVED his oysters on the half shell. He quickly slurped down the first platter and ordered a second round. He was equally pleased with his order of Fried Shrimp. It’s clear that raw oysters are tops here at Fontaine’s Oyster House. But if you’re thinking about ordering something with more than one ingredient – think twice.

The boyfriend and I came here to try the 5 $ dozen oysters on Tuesday. We came around 8pm at night and fortunately didn’t have to wait long. We were sat down in a booth after like 5 minute of waiting… not too bad. Especially since I heard so many crazy stories about the wait time. lol. Whew! got lucky! Anyways we ordered the following: –6 dozen of oysters –The trio of appetizer(Sausage, Corn and sweet potato fries) –A bowl of lobster bisque Overall, the oysters were a-okay. Not really big, but overall were decent size. I found a small crab in one of my oyster so that kind of ruin my oyster appetite for the night. Other than that, the lobster bisque was really good with big chunks of lobster. The sweet potatoe fries were good and the sausage was a okay! Overall, I would come back again.

Very nice Wednesday special — $ 2 dos Equis bottled and half off crab legs The pictured platter of crab legs was $ 10 with the special Nice location with street parking and parking in the rear(free valet until 10pm) PLUS…they close really late! Great service and good specials late at night and no rush to go home if you are getting off work late. Lots of comfy seating and tasty menu options … Loved it!

I came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon expecting it to be pretty busy but I guess since all the last minute holiday shoppers– they were pretty open. We sat down and was greeted by our very friendly waitress who told us about the specials. Luckily for us– it was $ 4 bloody mary day so of course we couldnt pass that up! We received our drinks and they were very tasty! Then we ordered 2 dozen oysters that were delicious! They were decently sized and very appetizing– a little bit too pricey though. It was about 22 for a dozen. After the appetizers we all decided to share a muffaletta and a cup of the seafood gumbo. I did not try the muffaletta but it looked absolutely amazing. The seafood gumbo was good as well but I had to add a little more spice to it. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience and I will definitely try and get down there on a Tuesday for $ 5 dozen house oysters on the half shell! UPDATE: After writing this review I became extremely hungry and ate my share of the muffaletta… not disappointed!
