It’s another great bbq joynt. We split 2 sandwiches, ribs, and 3 sides. The place looks old and run down… It was great. Even better is that it is across the street from Nick’s Food To Go. Hit Nicks to split a Gyro and then hit Daddy D’z.

As much as I want to like this place more, the price is not worth what you get. A sandwich alone is around $ 8 and that doesn’t even include any sides. The smallest side itself is around $ 3. The barbecue is average and the sauce is okay. If you’re a barbecue lover like me, it leaves much to be desired.

I passed this spot today while heading from Grant Park and wondered what was inside. I looked it up on Unilocal and discovered it had great reviews and had to try it. I am SO glad I did! This was the best bbq I have ever had! It was a reminder to not judge a book by it’s cover, or in this case a restaurant by it’s exterior. I ordered the pulled chicken plate which comes with two sides. I chose potato salad and baked beans. Both sides were fantastic, but the baked beans were hands down the best I’ve ever had and am still thinking about! Huge portions, I couldn’t finish what I ordered. My meal cost around $ 11 with an iced tea. Their motto is something about it not being pretty, but being good. Food is served on styrofoam plates and it doesn’t matter. No frills, but tons of flavor and great service. They had several cakes for dessert that I didn’t try, and the server was so welcoming and kind. He told me they are known for great pork and their strawberry cake and Oreo cheesecake. I visited around 2 pm on a Thursday and didn’t wait at all and the inside was bigger than I expected. The server said ‘bring your patience if you come on a weekend.’ I would definitely say this place would be worth the wait! I can’t wait to take friends and family here for authentic southern bbq when they visit Atlanta!

The place is not appealing nor is the customer service. People eating«POPEYE» chicken at the register. The BBQ was way too tangy and the cornbread was hard a brick. This place is clearly not one of my must go to places in the entire city. Also there was no greeting once we got in. A party of 8 sat ourselves then was basically rushed to order our food. The waitress cane to the table 6 times during the Sametime of asking do we want drinks less than 5 minutes of being in the building. Not happy at all.

Daddy D’z may look like a mess from the outside but they be using that to test you to see if you want to come in. They have a lot places to sit and you can come in and just grab a seat. They also do a large to go order business but are strict on making sure that once you order your food to go… you go. Very friendly at the counter asking if you have been in before and even handing out samples. The brunswick stew was very strong. Perfect amount of spice and a great overall taste. The Mac N Cheese was just okay. While the pork had a great taste as you can tell how much time and effort goes into making every batch as it just breaks away when you pull it apart.

What great food and a great spot. Looks like a hole in the wall but is some of the best bbq I have had in Atlanta. When we pulled in last time there were 5 cop cars there eating. Yeah it is that good. The owner is great. Just ask him about how the Cubs are doing. The service is fast and friendly. I will try to stop here every time I am in ATL.

Homestyle BBQ in Grant Park. Service is amazing. The BBQ here is outstanding and the rustic down home feeling is unmatched in Hotlanta. Try the fried green tomatoes, the corn bread, smoked turkey, and the pork. All tasty treats.

It is a hole in the wall, no thrill bbq place. I am not exactly sure what the hype is. The sample platter come with fresh fried okra 5*, pork rib 4*, the tiny wrap 4*, pull pork 4, and shred brisket 3. There isn’t enough smoke flavor in those meat. The pull meat are like from slow cooker than slowly roasted with wood. The corn bread is too dense. I have been here and done it.

Classic, long-established, no frills local BBQ joint. Obviously an institution that has outlasted the neighborhood given all the green space around it. I went with a full-rack of ribs, collard greens, and mac & cheese. All were classic and excellent. I went with the spicy BBQ sauce; it was not that spicy, but very good. Waitress did warn me and tried to talk me down to a half-rack. She was right, way too much food. Not cheap at $ 33, but after two meals of it I still had leftover ribs. Besides good sauce, ribs were fall-off-the-bone pink, as they should be.

It was 10p on a Friday and I wanted BBQ — an undeniable craving that I needed to satisfy. This place was open till midnight and had some decent reviews in Unilocal,so I stopped in. It’s def a hole in the wall type of place, so don’t expect too much when you walk in. I was placing a to-go order so it was weird walking in with directions only for dining customers. Like do I walk to the back? Wait for someone to come to me? Idk? I ended up walking to the back and luckily I found the order counter — it was hidden but it’s back there. I ordered two plates: ½ slab with greens and macaroni and cornbread; pulled pork with macaroni and red beans and rice and Texas toast. I was excited to try all the sides from the reviews but they just didn’t cut it for me. The macaroni was a mess — mushy, not very cheesy or flavorful. The greens weren’t even cut — just long ass leaves with not much flavor either. The red beans and rice tasted like an unseasoned mix from the box — very bland and undesirable. I’m thinking that it had to do with the time I got there, maybe? Idk but I was highly unimpressed. The meats on the other hand were actually really good. The ribs were tender and flavorful, and they gave us like 8 instead of 6 #winning. The pulled pork was really good too — very moist with just enough char like I like it. And they were a little on the expensive side too. $ 32 for 2 plates. I’d probably come back for the meat again but those sides tho? Idk man. Some of y’all aren’t telling the truth.

Amazing! Decided to stop by on my way to downtown from the airport. First off, great prices for a combo platter. I loved the short rib tips more than the beef brisket. All where good but the short ribs were bone sucking delicious. Tried the que wrap which was good– I would recommend it. They are so addicting. I can snack on them forever. I wasn’t crazy about the Mac and cheese since I like mine more gooey and cheese. String beans were really good, especially to balance out the heavy bbq beef. Overall I would recommend.

Had the Rib plate with collards, mac n’ cheese and cornbread. It was delicious and the service was warm and friendly. Enjoyed our visit. Only criticism is I felt like the place begged for a deep cleaning job.

It pains me to leave this update. I love the food, I have more and more of a problem with ordering my barbecue and waiting more nearly 40 minutes to actually get it. It’s barbecue. It’s supposed to be smoked long before I order it. My friend and I arrived at 3pm on a Sunday. Oddly enough, even though it wasn’t a meal-time, the place was packed. Still, I didn’t get to place an order until 15 minutes after I had been seated, and my food arrived nearly 40 minutes after that. Combine this with the high price points, and I become less eager to dine here.

This is the best BBQ Smoke House Joint I’ve ever been. Don’t be scared about the outdoor appearance, you will enjoy the best ribs, the best steak stew, the best pulled pork and brisket. The service is outstanding. The prices are just fair for the portions, quality and flavor. I’m not giving them 5 stars because the place needs a restoration and remodeling.

Shortly after arriving in Atlanta nearly twenty years ago, I was introduced to a few ‘must try’ BBQ joints. Two stood out: Harold’s and Daddy D’z, with Swallow at the Hollow not long after. Since then, Harolds has closed and a few other really good places have opened; most notably for me, Fox Bros. I also like Sam & Daves,(formerly BBQ1 and 2, and now something else, I haven’t kept track). No lack of good ‘que in Atlanta. There are several others, too. But Daddy D’z is a bit special. For one, it’s outlasted Harolds, and two, it’s local to me. Of course, three — the BBQ is pretty great. Love the ribs, the super casual friendly service and atmosphere, everything. You come here eat BBQ. And they do collards right. Plenty of room during weekday lunch, and easy parking. Recommended.

Went in for lunch and had the Chicken and Rib plate with fried okra and mac and cheese. First, the sides were amazing, nice work all there. The chicken and ribs were both hefty portions for lunch, and the meat was top quality. They really went heavy on the sauce, which is a shame because it masked a lot of the meat flavor. I caught a one little bit of rib without sauce, and the meat tasted delicious. On my next trip I’m going to ask for the sauce on the side.

Not a fan. I don’t really see what people like about this place. I love the ambiance. It has the makings of a great BBQ joint, good patina. That said, once you get inside you realize the place isn’t intended to look like a shithole, it actually is a shithole. The seating sucks, no service whatsoever, the geriatric chick taking your oder is rude, and worse than all of this, the food sucks. Brisket was dry and unremarkable, mac was dry and boring, ribs were nothing great, sauces were boring. To me this place seems to hate it’s customers and begs them to go somewhere else. I won’t be back.

Oh yes!!!, THIS is BBQ! I have eaten here through the years before Unilocal when I worked downtown, seems to have new people running it these days but my food was spot on. Had a pork place with beans, fries, cornbread, and some of the best, moist, tender meat I’ve had lately. Had a tangy, hit of sweet sauce that was good, would have preferred to have added it myself, just a quirk of mine that I like to try the meat plain before dressing it. Other party had the«rib sandwich» which was four huge ribs and a pile of Texas toast, I think two could eat off it! Don’t order this unless you have sleeves that roll up, you’ll want to dig in this deep.

Daddy dz was exactly what we needed. First night in ATL my friend said lets go here! As soon as we pulled up we knew we won. So much soul. Daddy D was right there along with our sweetheart waitress Brenda. Smiling and getting our order. One rib and chicken combo with greens and yams for the sides and mine… The beef brisket plate w Mac n cheese and greens. Soooo freakin good. For dessert Daddy D insisted on the strawberry cake. I was goin for lemon. But I obliged. It was good-super sweet tho. I’ll go back for the lemon. All in all great experience. Loved it.

Was looking for a good BBQ place in the city and read the reviews. A buddy and i went to try it at night. Now it’s in the hood but let me tell you. It’s just what people said — the food is AWESOME and the portions are amazing!!! Had the ribs, pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, Mac-n-cheese and it was ALL super good!!! Loved every single dish 100%!!! Diverse customer base so all are clearly welcomed and comfortable there.

I got the ribs, que wraps, stew, mac and cheese, and collard greens. The ribs were pretty damn good, but not the«best» in Atlanta. I was skeptical about the que wraps but they ended up being one of my favorites things, highly recommend! The stew came with cornbread and was fantastic. The collard greens used whole leaves instead of chopped and cooked with chunks of pork fat which I loved. And last but not least, the Mac and cheese was out of this world! Overall a great experience and definitely somewhere I would visit again.

You won’t be blown away by the décor, but… it’s the bomb. Well established neighborhood favorite. Slow smoked meats. Collards fresh and delicious. Great macaroni. I had the ribs… very tender. Ask for the sauce on the side. Mine were oversauced and it was running into my collards and macaroni.

Definitely some of the best BBQ I’ve had in Atlanta. I’ve been on the search for good brisket since I moved here near 8 years ago and this might be some of the best Atlanta has to offer. Most traditional BBQ places slice their brisket as opposed to shredding it, but its good, still. The pulled pork was really moist and tender. The mac and cheese is good and the broccoli casserole is GREAT. Red beans and rice should be left to us Cajuns, though. This place has definitely not mastered that. Brunswick stew was good, as well. The cornbread is soaked in syrup of some sort and is more like cake than cornbread. Good, but too sweet to eat WITH dinner. All in all, I’d definitely recommend it if you’re craving BBQ.

The third star is just because I don’t wanna be a jerk. Food was good. Not the best I had ever had, but certainly not the worst. My food was nice and hot and bought to me on a styrofoam plate; hey, I guess it helps cut down on the overhead. I had the ¼ chicken w/two sides. I could tell my rice and beans and candied yams were from Zatarains and the can, respectively. The sauce on my chicken was quite tasty, the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and tangy. The service was not spectacular, but when your food is served on styrofoam plates I don’t think i can expect much more fanfare when it comes to the service. The roach that came to eat with me, I didn’t call him and I didn’t appreciate lil buddy coming to my table unannounced. If there is one there are many, and for that reason alone, I will not be returning to Daddy D’z and will tell my friends to eat at their own risk. Call the Orkin man quick, fast and in a hurry.

Daddy D’z is my favorite BBQ place I’ve tried in Atlanta! It’s consistently great. The Food: I’m pretty sure all of their meat is smoked. So good! And they have tons of wonderful(traditional, southern) sides to pick from that all taste full-fat and full-delicious. The portions are huge; I always take home half of my plate with two sides. You also get to pick from the«hot» or «mild» BBQ sauces. The hot isn’t that hot at all — it’s just a lightly sweet BBQ sauce with a tiny bit of heat. And the mild is a traditional, sweet sauce. I’ve had pretty much all the meats they serve and I’ve liked them all! Heads up — the mac and cheese isn’t very consistent. I don’t know if they’re just always working on the recipe, or if it varies depending on the chef that day, but sometimes it’s great and sometimes it’s just okay. I love their broccoli casserole, baked beans, okra, yams, and green beans. The Atmosphere: It’s a true hole in the wall, but there’s actually a good bit of seating and it is a traditional sit-down-with-a-waiter restaurant. You pick your own seat and all of the waiters help everyone. Also, there is ALWAYS a police officer or EMS worker there eating when I’ve been. So I take that as a really good sign! The Service: The waiters are always super nice and the service is really fast. At the end of your meal, they bring you a check and you bring it to the register. Very casual, very friendly. Overall, it’s not the absolute best smoked meat over ever had — so I don’t want to give it a five star rating — but it’s a really great BBQ option. My go-to!

I called in an order for carry-out. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I walked in the door 9 minutes later and it was ready. The server was very nice. It all goes DOWNHILL from here … I ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of stew. $ 13.50 !! I get back to work and find that my brisket sandwich is actually a pulled pork sandwich. The Brunswick stew tasted like someone dumped a bottle of rubbing alcohol in it. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever put in my mouth. I could not eat more than 3 «investigative» bites. I would recommend skipping this place.

Chose this place because of the good ratings on Unilocal, especially at over 400 reviews. Was honestly good, but not great. Wouldn’t return. Had the Ribs, Chicken Breast & Pulled Chicken. Meat was definitely tender, but was lacking taste in comparison to Franklin’s in Austin, Texas, which we had just a few days ago — see my review & pictures. To be fair, it will be difficult for any BBQ Joint to hold a candle to them. However, Jackson Street BBQ in Houston is a close 2nd. We also had the potato salad, which was pretty good, probably the best part of the meal. Baked beans — unimpressive, tasted like they were pored directly from the can. Mac n Cheese & Bean n Rice were just no good. Cole Slaw was average. The parts of the corn bread that were cooked all the way through were quite good. With as many BBQ joints as there is in the south I wouldn’t return.

It’s a «hole in the wall». I’m not saying that in a negative way either. Gives the place character. I saw this place on food network for something and bookmarked it. The food is decent. It’s not bad. It was good. I wasn’t knocked on my butt, but if I lived in Atlanta, I would stop in from time to time. The best part for me was the staff. Customer service is a real big deal for me. The owner was so nice and the entire staff was so friendly. I will always support that.

This review is mainly for pick up/take out order. Upon arrival, there’s a open parking lot right up front. When you walk in, it seems like an old rundown place, but they do say don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I had to put in an order for over 40 people over the phone and they were so amazing. They were pleasant and took each order. They were so patient and very helpful. When I got there, they had labeled every order with each person’s name. Everything was organized perfectly AND all the orders were PERFECT. A typical platter comes with 2 sides and your choice of cornbread or texas toast at about 11 – 15 bucks. I ordered the pulled pork platter with fried okra and green beans and cornbread. The pulled pork was good, not AMAZING. You can never go wrong with pulled pork though. The sides are PERFECTION though. Everyone else was raving about all the sides they got so I’m definitely not the only one. Overall, this is a solid place to check out if you want BBQ. I’ll be back to check out some other stuff. P. S. You can place orders online for pick up!
