I used to like Publix and was especially pleased with the customer service. However today I learned that this grocery chain has refused to talk with the workers who pick their vegetables. The wages that the company enforces are insanely low. One penny per pound of tomatoes. You’d have to pick 1000 pounds of tomatoes to earn $ 10. That’s very hard work for very low wages. Avoid this store! Even Walmart has joined with the Fair Food Program.

Publix is the best supermarket in town. Customer service is at Trader Joe’s levels(which is to say, GREAT), but they have a much larger store. I mix in the occasional visit to TJ’s, Ingles, and even Krogers, but Publix is my staple store. Great employees, good product selection, decent prices… Last night, I went in to order a cake for a colleague at work. I ordered it at around 9pm for an 8am pickup, and the nice lady only blinked a couple of times and then helped me fill out the order form. For $ 20, I got an awesome quarter-sheet chocolate-white cake with spring flowers and custom message. And, everyone who ate it said, «This is soooo goood!» I couldn’t agree more. The end.

Why am I reviewing a supermarket? Oh, that’s right. Because I came in here to get bread(out of convenience, I usually head to Kroger), and I’m soooooooooooo glad I did. Get their 5 grain bread, the baguette style. They have the softest and tastiest bread. OMG. Yum.

My favorite supermarket in town. They generally hire a very high caliber employee(think Chick-fil-a), so you almost always get very friendly personable service. If you ever do have a problem, their customer service and management is very responsive. The store is always clean and well organized. The shelves are always fronted and faced so well that you think you are shopping in a staged supermarket in a movie. The everyday prices are higher than some of their competitors. But they have great weekly sale promotions. I generally just go there each week to pick up the sale items and I think I get a great value. The highlight is their buy-one-get-one-free items, which don’t require you to get 2 of the item to receive the savings(they just ring up half price). The parking lot is nice with angled spaces in one-way lanes. So it’s pretty easy to get in and out. Even if you have to park some distance from the entrance. They also have ticketmaster available @ the customer service desk, and a Redbox dvd rental kiosk.
