Having never been to Porterhouse before this past Valentine’s Day I didn’t know what to expect. I can now say it was definitely a great choice. Very friendly over the phone for reservations, and very friendly greeting when we came in the door. The steaks we had were great and the atmosphere was perfect for a Valentine’s Day date. I will definitely consider it when looking for a nice dinner in Athens.

Coming from Florida a restaurant like this would cost you quite the pretty penny. For it being in a college town it was very classy, quiet and felt like fine dining. Prices were more than reasonable especially for steaks. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Also I’ve never seen a prime rib as big as my face; 14 oz for 25 $? I’ll take it. Had the tomato herb soup as an appetizer and it tasted homemade. It was a really a great find.

Really great value for their burger! Their burger is priced at $ 8.50& they even grind the burger meat. Mushrooms & bacon is extra & recommended on the delicious burger. They have pretty good fries but the downer is that they do not have ranch & their honey mustard is disgusting! The staff is really friendly & dining area is very spacey. I would definitely recommend this burger who wants to get a really great tasting burger! The only flaw about this burger is that its too salty.

I was very impressed with this steak and seafood house in the heart of Athens. The atmosphere is very inviting. I walked off the streets of a college town and into a classy, jazzy restaurant. The staff is friendly and inviting. They blend small town charm with big city professionalism. From the host to the bartender to the waiter, the service had good balance, pacing, and awareness. We shared a bottle of pinot noir. It complemented the food very well. I started with the blue cheese wedge, which is a standby for me. It was tasty for sure. There was plenty of bacon and almost too much blue cheese(if that’s possible), but it lacked finesse. There was one huge slice of tomato just resting behind the wedge like a door stop and no scallions or anything. I asked for fresh cracked pepper just to liven it up a bit. I know a wedge isn’t a delicacy to begin with, but this one could be improved upon. I had the fillet medallions as my entrée because they’re often a good test of how well a restaurant can manage meat temperatures — multiple small units. I was not disappointed. They were cooked to perfection and wrapped with hearty slices of bacon which only enhanced the flavor. But the real winner was the apple cider vinegar reduction. It was incredible! The highlight of the meal. The combination of the sweet sauce paired with the salty meat was stupendous. I could have eaten 3 more medallions prepared that way. The entrée was served with smashed red potatoes and vegetables. In contrast to the meat, the side items were lackluster. The vegetables were just barely above the quality of the frozen aisle at the grocery store. The potatoes weren’t much better — very average. They weren’t necessarily bad, but they fell so short compared to the fantastic cuts of beef. For dessert, I shared the chocolate cheesecake. It was rich, but not particularly distinctive. Though, it didn’t disappoint either. I would say the steaks carry the majority of responsibility for this 4-star rating. I would definitely go back. I just don’t know when.

Gross over cooked steaks, poorly made drinks. Over priced. They let some drunk girl come raise hell at the bar for no reason and ran off groups of people including my group of 7. If anyone wants to come to Atlanta instead of here, send me a DM and I’ll personally pay for your dinner at a real steak house. The quality of restaurant this place claims to be is an absolute joke. Update Mgmt, you must have my group confused with another of your guests groups. We absolutely ate at your restaurant with a large group. None of my group was overly impressed. Secondly, there isn’t a chance in hell I would have ordered vanilla shots.(Or any shots at a steakhouse). The girl you mention, we literally never said a word to until we were basically attacked for wearing the wrong team colors. I actually have a video of the interaction I will post to social media depending on your response.(I don’t think you want that). We surely didn’t call her names, use obscene language, or demean her(or anyone else) in any way. We were not loud or told to be quiet even once either. Lastly, I’m sure you reassured the rest of the general public by your wildly inaccurate, inappropriate and unprofessional reply that they should look elsewhere for a nice meal in Athens. I not the type person to flatly call someone a liar but you sir, either 1. Have my group that was treated poorly and unimpressed with your food, confused with another group. Or 2. Are a flat out liar.

I’ve had two meals from here, a dinner and a lunch. The dinner, a steak, was 4 star quality; the lunch, a ground steak sandwich, was more 3.5 star quality; the average is 3.75 so I’ll go with four stars. The service on the lunch was a little slow. The she-crab soup, which I had both times, is pretty tasty. The lunch price is quite reasonable.

Excellent Sunday brunch! Great price for prime rib, fried chicken and mashed potatoes, pancake and omelet stations, salad, fruit salad, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, crab soup AND dessert! Everything was delicious and service was great! For some reason it is always humid in there no matter what time of the year you go. But it’s tolerable.

Great experience. Had the chef ‘special; a perfectly cooked 14oz ribeye, topped with three pankoed scallops, drizzled with some spicy dragon sauce, served on top of some outstanding home made garlic mashed potatoes and a side of grilled asparagus. They also have a good wine selection…

Yeah. can we have a little more light so we can see our food? Otherwise the food and service was excellent. Expensive, so bring extra $$$.

Key Lime Martini was my favorite. We all had the 7oz filet. Service very friendly with the owner/manager coming to check in us once. When I compare to other steak houses, I keep in mind the size of the city. The chef might not know exactly what medium rare plus means, but excellent none the less. Atmosphere was classy.

We came for Sunday Brunch — and glad we did. Short wait for a table even at prime time. Buffet line was very ample — everything was great. Service was prompt and friendly which added to making brunch a very good experience. Will definitely come back. You will not be disappointed !

my all time favorite restaurant in Athens. very good steaks, the salmon is delicious. their mashed potatoes & vegetables are very good! the she crap soup is a MUST! for lunch I had the fish tacos — the tilapia was a little dry but still good. my mom ordered the Philly cheesesteak & said it was good. the house made fries are delicious. and their brunch, DELICIOUS! it is worth the wait but make sure you get their early on Sundays, as it tends to be very crowded. or make a reservation. this is a delicious restaurant located right in the heart of downtown with good food(a bit more expensive than some restaurants in Athens) but the food is well worth the cost! any chance i get I go to porterhouse! you won’t regret it. everything is delicious on the menu!

Loved the food. Hot bread was great. Word of warning, don’t eat too bread or you wont be able to eat the main course. We arrived an hour before closing and they did not rush us out. It was in the weekdays.

I reserved the back room for a corporate dinner event(50 people). We had an open bar and limited menu. I thought that they food was exceptional. We had passed appetizers, soup or salad, entrée and choice of chocolate cake or cheesecake. The cheesecake was AMAZING. I’d highly recommend this location for a large group.

Had two meals here during graduation Weekend. Both were quite good. I had a fish stuffed with crab meat. Heard those who had steak were also quite happy with their selections.

Meh. Have gone there for brunch twice. The first time was fairly pleasant. Nothing really stand out-ish other than the fact that you can’t get your mimosa till 12 or 1230(I can’t remember which) and I ordered one… when it came my husband decided he also wanted one. The waitress then let us know they were now out of the $ 5 mimosas but he could order a $ 9 one. The food is ok. Salad, a fish soup, breakfast fare, fried chicken and roast beef. Coffee is not included in the price and is pretty crappy so ordering a coke may be better. Will only go back when meeting with friends as it’s not all that great for us.

My husband and I ate there Monday and it was fantastic! Food was spectacular and the service was exceptional. I can not recall the name of the server but we were the last table in, typically I have always felt very rushed at the end of the night when dining at other locations, however this server did everything but that. He was attentive and informed as well as extremely courteous. He even shook my husbands hand at the end of the meal and thanked us for coming in. Well played sir. Well played!

Now Athens is not Atlanta and does not have any true 5-star restaurants, but this place is as close as it gets! The food here is fantastic… all of it. The service is top notch and they’ve got a great bar. –What really puts this place over the top is that they almost always have coupons online that really makes this place a bargain for the quality of the food and the overall experience!

Great dining experience. 5 of us went to dinner on a Thursday without reservations and we were seated within 5 minutes. I had the flirt with blue cheese(rare) and it was cooked perfect! I really enjoyed the fact that their food was seasoned lightly and the meat spoke for itself. If you are in Athens give this place a shot

Porterhouse is the place to go if you have a hole burning in your wallet and want a thick, juicy steak. Definitely a date or game-day place especially when the Dawgs are on top. Service is probably the best in town. A lot of other high end restaurants here in Athens have a townie-snobbish approach, but not here. The staff is well-trained on their menu offerings and wine. I do suggest that folks go when it is not super busy. Not to knock on them, but they tend to be a bit slower and food consistency goes down during a busy night like GameDays, but so is everyone else in town(it is hard to manage drunk, unruly UGA fans after a big win). But 340ish nights of the year, no one can touch this place for a nice glass of wine and a fine steak. Also, the hidden gem is lunch. I am surprised that this place hasn’t lit up yet with their ridiculously low lunch offerings. If people knew that they can eat a high quality meal at Porterhouse for the price of eating at Chili’s for lunch, this place would be packed. Sunday brunch is awesome too, but it gets really busy sometimes. My suggestion is to go early cuz’ brunch is the best Sunday deal in town. Only other place that touches it is Mama’s Boy on Sunday, but that’s comparing Filet Mignon to chopped steak. Overall, I would give it 5 stars, but I have to be a harsh critic and give them a measly 4 stars.(I would do a ½ star plus if I could). Go for lunch and Sunday brunch and splurge on dinner there!
