I love this place. The sushi is great! They have a variety of sushi rolls that you can choose from. They also have great lunch specials that I highly recommend!

This sushi and portion size here is amazing. We had to shumia shrimp dumplings so yummy. Pricing was also very good for portion size.

Great food great services a bit overpriced but for the quality I guess it’s worth it. I love their lychee and chocolate martinis. The rick shrimp and Pauline roll are my favorite. Great local spot with nice outdoor seating we visit often and will continue to do so.

My wife and I have been here 3 times and it really does just keep getting better. The sushi is extremely fresh and comes out fast(7 sushi chefs on a Friday night). It’s more fish than rice as well, so you don’t feel overly stuffed. It’s also extremely clean, I didn’t get a hint of fish smell. The appetizers are all really good, the squid being our favorite. And a big bonus for the edamame that tastes freshly boiled instead of warmed up in the microwave like other places have done to us. I went for the normal Udon this time and oh boy I’m glad I did. First of all, it’s extremely reasonable at only $ 13. It came out in a gigantic bowl and was so piping hot I couldn’t eat it for a solid 5 minutes. It comes with 2 large tempura shrimp and a bit of chicken but it doesn’t say everything else it has in it. There are fantastic exotic mushrooms, tons of vegetables, and slices of fish(fake crab). Every bite was something a little different and all delicious. Drinks are a bit on the mediocre side but I didn’t discount them for it. There are no large beers like most sushi restaurants, so you are forced to order the $ 6 bottle. $ 8 for drafts are available but they are tiny and not worth the cost. Wife had a martini and they got it right the first time but completely wrong the second time and had to send it back. They were more than happy to please us though. Endless buzzing of waiters filling water glasses and screeching children abound inside, but it doesn’t distract too much from the food. It’s a fantastic find in a great neighborhood. Bonus tip: ask to sit in the back by the pond for a quieter experience.

You know it’s a great sushi place when it has a small amount of rice and a lot of fish. And that is what Watawa does. Even asked for the menu back to order seconds. Also highly recommend the unsweetened iced tea

The best sushi in Queens by far! Their bumblebee roll is to die for, as most of their rolls are. I also love their gyoza, teriyaki chicken, california rolls, and shu mai. Whenever I have a sushi craving, this is my go-to spot. The service is amazing too! Your glass will never be empty. If you want dessert, try the red bean ice cream. Delicious!

Wow! I’ve tried many sushi places and I never found the right place that had a great sushi selection. I’m sure I would recommend other sushi rolls because With just ordering the Specials: Dragon Roll, Dynamite Roll and the Pauline roll and wow; they are to die for! I would’ve given the place 5 stars but our server was not nice at all. She probably worked all day, because she seemed very annoyed! Other than that, this place is a great spot to have amazing sushi!

The place looks great, attentive service, tasty food. Music is not too loud — easy to have a conversation. Loved it. Kani salad($ 8) — not your usual pile of mush drowning in mayo. Cram meat comes shredded over romaine lettuce, with ginger salad dressing on the side. Crunchy and refreshing. Also had a couple rolls, special rolls and a variety of sashimi. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious. Mackerel may have been the best i’ve had in the area. Will definitely be back. Thank you

I’m a big sushi eater, and luckily I stumbled across this spot. The sushi was BEYOND what I expected and best that I’ve had in the NYC area so far. The vibe was good too. Dim lighting and good music. Will be back for sure.

The place has a cozy atmosphere and nice design. Also here is modern music. Service is fast and polite. I like here lunch time because it is delicious and cheap and big. It’s a nice place.

We ordered the avocado cucumber role, edamame, white rice and miso soup. The avocado was delicious and creamy. The role tasted excellent. The edamame had salt sprinkled on it and it was pretty good. Service is a 5 Food is a 5 Price is what you would expect for sushi Looking forward to coming back! Would recommend this to anyone.

Was really misled by the reviews and found this to be a really mediocre sushi place. Average rolls and average fish for the most part. However, the tuna looked bad and the yellowtail jalapeño roll had huge chunks of jalapeño in it unlike the finely diced style it should be. Wouldn’t return and would caution others to temper their expectations.

I’ve been going to Watawa for a few years now. Sometimes for dinner, mostly for lunch. Lunch special is pretty reasonably priced. You get soup and salad with your order. I randomly ordered 2– or 3-roll sushi or sashimi bento set from time to time. Rolls are solid at Watawa as they don’t look sloppy. Sashimi is fresh as usual. Grilled Squid is a must try. It’s always grilled to perfection every time. I really enjoyed it! Anyway, I wish I could pop a Molly every time I’m at Watawa though. The EDM really gets me going! ;)

Just give me all of the sushi you have. Wait… wait. I worry what you just heard was, «Give me a lot of sushi.» What I said was, «Give me all the sushi you have». Do you understand? This place is noooo joke. It’s some the best sushi I’ve had in a long time, and definitely the best I’ve ever had in Queens. I came here last night with a couple of friends, and honestly, wasn’t expecting much. Astoria is well-known for it’s Greek/Mediterranean scene, but not much for its sushi joints. But damn, this meal was a surprise — in the best kind of way. First off, the vibe is super sexy — intimate, chill music, VERY dim lighting(most of which is coming from the candles on the tables). It was so dark, that my friends and I had to be «those people» using the flashlights on our phones to read the menu. Whoops. While the aesthetics scream ‘date night’, there were several non-couples and groups of friends dining as well. Before getting our sushi on, we checked out the drink menu. Not a single cocktail on the drink menu was over $ 10. Score! … At least I thought so, until I got my Saketini. So this was the biggest bummer about the whole experience here. The drink just tasted off, probably from whatever cheap sake or vodka they used to make it. But it was only $ 9, and I really don’t expect much in the way of cocktails at a sushi joint, so I’m not going to flack this place too much for it. So let’s get to the food, yea? To start, we got the agedashi tofu and seafood pancake. The tofu was awesome with a super crispy crust, but the pancake was underwhelming(a notch below the kind you’d get at your typical Korean joint). And finally… the SUSHI. The three of us decided to split the Spicy Sushi Combo(8 nigiri and a roll of spicy tuna), Watawa roll, Fuji roll, and Ocean Tiger roll. BONKERS. All the fish was so fresh and delicate, and paired perfectly with the accompanying flavors in the maki/nigiri. And the sushi rice(which is often too overlooked) was on point — great texture and just that hint of rice vinegar to give it some bite. Watawa doesn’t skimp out on their portions either, all the maki and nigiri are large, but still with the right rice to fish proportions. Every piece really was the perfect, tasty bite. The service was great; very friendly servers. And our drinks and food came out fairly quickly. No complaints there. The final bill for the three of us came out to $ 110 including tax and tip. I consider this a steal for $ 37 a person given how happily stuffed we all were after our meal. Well done again, Astoria. Everything about the sushi at this place completely floored me. Quantity and quality that won’t break the bank? Please and thank you.

Always a good choice on Ditmars among the many sushi spots that dot the area. They’re all pretty good with fresh seafood but Watawa has a nicer ambiance. There’s a serene Buddha in the back with running water as well as nice sidewalk seating to people watch. Prices are comparable to the others and the sushi is your standard run of the mill with some specialty rolls. They also have a decent drinks list with mixed drinks as well as a decent selection of sake and wines. A great neighborhood place for a quick meal or a nice date.

Although my boyfriend would rate this at a 2, I have to disagree. I had two cocktails– the midnight snow(delicious and strong– I love coconut so this was so refreshing on a hit summer night) and the watawa-tini– pretty strong! We ordered the kani salad, a regular side salad and steamed shrimp shumai. Everything came out super fast… almost concerning how fast(either they’re mind readers or perhaps the shumai got nuked). Everything was pretty basic but I thought very good and fresh. We ordered the dynamite roll and the ocean roll. The dynamite roll was dynamite but the ocean roll was just… eh. I say it’s still one of the better sushi places in astoria but not my favorite

They have a great lunch deal that comes with miso soup, salad, and gyoza or shumai. The white tuna was so fresh that it melted in my mouth like butter. The salmon and tuna that came with the sashimi set($ 13) was also fresh. Would come back for fresh sashimi.

Came here for dinner with a group of 3. We did not have any issues getting a seat. Plenty of open seats. For appetizer, we ordered the rock shrimp with walnuts. The dish was good but the shrimp were slightly overcooked. There was nothing really special about the dish when compared to the traditional chinese dish with shrimp, walnut, and mayo. It tasted exactly the same. Nothing about the dish was elevated, however, in their defense, nobody said it had to be. I just assumed that it would be slightly different given the chic nature of this place. The walnut was lovely toasted and could smell the aroma of it. For main dish, we got 2 sushi/sashimi combo platters and the spider and dragon roll. In terms of the sushi, the fish wasn’t as fresh as it could have been. There was still enough water content in the fish that could be tasted. As a result, it made the fish seem mushy and less fish taste. The rolls were okay, nothing spectacular but the price point helps. The ratio of the avocado to meat was disproportioned. Felt like eating an avocado as opposed to sushi. Ambience of this place is amazing. Extremely comfortable and excellent ventilation and AC. The leather seats/couches were very comfortable. The service was excellent. They were very attentive to our water levels and never let it go below half. Every time a staff member passed our table, they always looked at our table to see if we needed anything else. Overall, a great trendy place, just not for food.

Fantasy Roll, Pauline Roll and Lobster Roll… that is all my friends! These are the absolute best rolls on the menu! It’s been really hard to find decent quality Sushi after moving to NY(hard to believe I know). Watawa not only excels in their interior design of the place, but also delivers with their sushi quality! Absolute deliciousness! I’d definitely stop by here and order the above mentioned rolls. Service is also great so no complains there. Only recommendation is to either their their rolls a bit larger or add more pieces to each roll to get your completely satisfied!
