It’s a typical cheap teriyaki chicken hut. Only problem is the food temperature was inconsistent and the teriyaki sauce was obviously from a bottle and/or terribly made, even for what one would expect from a cheap teriyaki joint. Pricey for what you get in my opinion as well, but one can buy a meal for under $ 10. Didn’t try the sushi, but I wouldn’t trust it if I were you. There’s a nice Japanese restaurant up just down the street and is worth paying the little extra for their 4 star food and service.

Came in here on a whim– very good! I had the teriyaki chicken. Came with rice and some steamed veg. Girlfriend had a veg sushi roll– the avocado. All delicious.

Tokyo teriyaki Astoria is great I eat there about once maybe twice a month. Chicken is tender and moist great teriyaki sauce. They serve real Asian sticky rice and I even like the cabbage and carrots on the side most places they are just garnish and near inedible, but at Tokyo teriyaki Astoria they are a staple of the meal.

Food was good when it finally came, however, we are vegetarians and they served us meat on accident. We also ordered two of the same dish and only received one. Very busy little place, may have been overwhelming for the cook that night. Good enough food.

We love asian food! So while we were in town we decided to check this place out. We walked in and were greeted immediately by the fuy in the front. We sat down and ordered a couple rolls and plates. I had teri chicken and beef with rice and veggies, and my husband got teri chicken and pork with rice and veggies. The plates were a nice size, the veggies were fresh, the rice was cooked perfectly, so was the meat! The rolls were fantastic! I ordered the Tokyo roll. It had shrimp tempura in the middle, and avocado on the top. It was delicious! And the combination was great! My husband got the unagi roll. He loved it and the combination was awesome. If we lived here i know we would be regulars here! The service was pretty quick, he was helpful, informative, friendly, and greeted everyone who walked in with a smile :) recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi and asian food!!!

Quite the booming little restaurant! I used to live in Astoria 15 years ago, came back to visit, stopped in and was pretty wowed by how dynamic and full this place was, yet, the wait wasn’t long at all, the customer service was pretty excellent(plenty of smiles and friendliness), and the food was kicking. I had a chicken teriyaki and, yeah it was pretty right. Promising little spot. Loved it.

I had always wanted to stop in and see what it was all about. Since moving up here, and the work I found /rent etc… I don’t eat out a ton, but when I do I do it with gusto. I finally got a day off and bagged a croquet set and a new iPhone … Feeling good I fancied to pig out. As I knew I was coming up to this mystery joint, I felt a pang of adventurism and yanked the wheel hard over left and hopped out like speed racer(in the rain) and walked in. Finally, I thought, here we go. The waiter instantly came over and got me seated. Top notch. LoTR fan I’m sure as he wore the one ring to rule them all. I ordered a lunch special and a black tea. He went out of his way to make sure I had milk to go with my tea(for me a must) and he even asked if I had lived in Britain as per the way I take my tea so seriously. I credit my old boss as my Anglophile mentor, and he taught me all I know about a proper cuppa. Very sharp waiter, I felt very good about coming in. And just a general really pleasant sort of guy. I felt very welcomed, not that surly redneck sort of «why are ya botherin’ me «attitude that if I ever get I will blacklist a joint in a snap. 2 stars right there! The plate was brilliant, a few veg(nice helping of carrot/broccoli& cabbage) tons of teriyaki chicken, two great dollops of rice(another must for me) and some fantastic crispy golden pork gyoza on top as the crowning jewel. Of course I LOVE spicy so I was very happy to find at hand some Sriracha and oh let’s not forget the wi-fi which helped a ton as I needed it to relaunch all my old apps into my new phone. The in house music… Great playlist or station. Some places drown you in sad or weakly chosen styles, I had a blast: Bowie, talking heads, Zeppelin, Beatles, etc… I was in heaven . I cleaned the plates and drained my milky/sugary cuppa tea and admitted that I work in a local hotel(next to Safeway) And that I’m wanting some menus to give out to guests because I would recommend this place to my family and friends with no hesitation. I’m impressed as I’ve just moved up from CA last summer and it’s nice to know I have a new favorite Japanese haunt. Next time I’ll try the sushi menu, so stay tuned folks! Thumbs way up! Go «have a butchers!»)(Google it) You won’t regret it! — Michael Herlich

We really gave this place a decent shot. We tried 5 rolls. 1 was good, 2 were mediocre, and 2 were plain gross. I think the problem was with the sushi rice. The rice was mushy, distracting, and not tasty. I wouldn’t give the sushi a second try, but I might try their teriyaki.

Honestly this was the worst sushi I have ever had. The salmon nigiri was obviously frozen and thawed but it could have been another type of fish dyed pink. Do not go here, stay at home and make your own sushi.

The décor is no reflection of the food — they, in fact, are exact opposites. Very good sushi! We tried the Cannon Beach(spicy!), the Hawaiian(yum) and plain old avocado roll. Our kids had fried rice(chicken and tofu) and enjoyed it all!

Favorite place in Astoria. Love the restaurant, I’ve been here way too many to count. I love their chicken katsu, its sooo good. I’d come everytime for it. I had ramen here too and it was good. Sushi is also a definite good choice as well. I had the tempura shrimp roll, very delicious. 10 stars. The waitress/employee is very nice and attentive. Good food, good service.

Hiding in obscurity, striving for public tolerance, and lingering in mediocrity, Tokyo Teriyaki is Astoria’s go-to spot for a meal you won’t even remember having.

We were just passing through Astoria and needed food – whatever we could find that wasn’t too expensive. I was totally taken by surprise by how fantastic this unassuming hole-in-the-wall turned out to be. Go figure, it was absolutely delicious. I had vegetarian ramen, my boyfriend had spicy teriyaki chicken. The portions were impressive, the vegetables and meat were fresh and perfectly cooked, and the food was even plated beautifully. I’m not out at the coast much but this will be a destination next time I’m in Astoria.

It’s not a bad place to grab a quick bit of sushi when you need a fix. The place looks like it family run, but this place has pretty decent food. :)

This review is strictly based on their Sushi. The Sushi was TERRIBLE! Although I partially blame myself for ordering sushi at a restaurant that focuses on Teriyaki. The rice was hard and cold, the fish did not taste fresh. It was some of the Worst sushi I have ever had(including Sushi Track restaurants.) I thought Sushi near the beach HAD to at least be decent. Next time in Astoria if I am craving Teriyaki, I will give this place a fair try.

A solid 4 star restaurant. Food is always good, but never blows you away. Atmosphere is kind of «strip-mallish». I always prefer the Teriyaki Chicken/sushi combo. It’s worth it to upgrade to the more expensive chicken if you are picky. The few times I have had steak it seems there are a few pieces that I just can’t eat because of the fat or grisel. Portions are large enough that I have always taken a little home no matter what I order. If this business was located in a better building, had a more authentic atmosphere and upgraded the food quality even a little, it could be a can’t miss place in Astoria. As it is, I see no reason not to try Tokyo Teriyaki at least once if you are craving sushi and or Teriyaki.

This is where we stopped for a late lunch while driving through Astoria(on our journey from Seattle to Cannon Beach, taking the coastal route). The food was really quite good, but I wish there had been a salad instead of cooked vegetables with my teriyaki. It was a liiiiiittle pricy, but you get a big ol’ plate of food. While we were dining, 3 interesting things happened: 1) A woman came over to us and commented on how AMAZING our food looked, she was impressed by our ordering skills. It was surprising and nice. 2) The owner of the nearby comic book shop(he was eating with his family) called in a favor to give a little boy a free action figure doll. It was really sweet and cute to overhear. 3) Somebody who worked here invited us to a private party. That sounds creepy. It wasn’t creepy, it was sweet and nice. I think Tokyo Teriyaki is a place where nice people gather. Perhaps you should go just to see what nice things will happen to you!
