I sat down here one night wanting a light but still appetizing dinner, it was okay, the location is fantastic, the ambiance was even better, and the drinks were yummy(Minus the fact the drinks we ordered at first were not available anymore but were advertise like they were) the reason Im giving three stars is because the most important thing the food, was not up to par. We ordered Quesadillas and the chicken in it tastes so weird we only finished one piece of it and that was between me and my boyfriend, we also order burger sliders and as you cant imagine burger sliders are small burgers, but imagine the burger itself being so small you had to open the buns to find it, we also ordered cheese fries that the cheese you could still make out that they were shaped as squares out the package… Bummer. The waitress was very attentive and nice as the night went on and was understanding when she saw we didn’t finish/enjoy Quesadillas so she took it off the bill for us and we took care of her because its not her fault we didn’t enjoy the food… I would really love it if they stepped there game up on there food the place could be rockin if they did but as of now I don’t think well be going back.

I would probably give this place a 1.5 if I could. The ambience and décor is super cute and rustic feeling, hence the 1.5 stars. The service is mediocre. The servers looked miserable to be there besides the one bartender(who we didn’t interact with). But their just walking around moping as if us eating there is a burden. The food was just blah. I’d give another star for the Mac n cheese bites but everything else was either on the verge of burnt or not cooked enough. Also, the servers show clear favoritism. They gave select diners the complimentary muffins but not others. If you’re going to give anything complimentary, be standard and consistent about it. Will I be returning? Nope. Been here 3 times and no reason to keep returning.

I had been dying to try this place out for some time and got the opportunity to order some food from here the other night. I had the brisket sandwich and chicken fingers which came out to roughly $ 18. The sandwich was a solid 8⁄10 but the chicken fingers left something to be desired. The pricing is kind of steep for a sandwich and chicken fingers in my opinion. In short, I’m glad I got to try it out, but not too sure if I would go back only because of the cost.

Obsessed with this place! Buffalo panini as well as the pulled pork with cheddar are two of my most favorite sandwiches ever! Their brunch is great, the service can lack sometimes. We’ve been here(my boyfriend and I) about 15 times since moving to the area. We often bring guests as well. Their happy hour is fun and the drinks are okay! I recommend the adult arnold palmer, as well as those two sandwiches. Their boozy brunch is ideal as well :)

Love this place. Before I start on the praise. They make sandwiches on a GLUTENFREE bread too. And do not miss number 22 and 11! We were so delighted when they opened, it’s like the cutest corner sandwich shop in the area, and the food is amazing. The staff and the owners are very polite and welcoming. And on a sunny day it’s just amazing to sit outside and their delicious sandwich. Highly recommend this place!

Love love love this place! Came in for lunch great special half sandwich with one or two sides. Definitely very full with that size portion my brisket grilled cheese was to die for and the soup of the day was a beef chili. Let’s just say I was putting chili everywhere because it was that delicious. Happy hour was great too $ 4 drafts and service was good. Definite come too small spot.

I wanted to love the food here… But when I ordered delivery everything was cold… even the brisket grilled cheese:( I think the food may be better in house but delivery sucked. Citrus salad no bueno. It had 3 slivers of unripe orange that still kept the skin membrane on? It is not hard to segment orange jewels for a salad. Citrus salad not so much. Corn fritters? The center of the nuggets was hollow??? Disappointing Brisket should be tender, and not strictly gummy, and dry. .if it was slow cooked as they advertise then it shouldn’t have been this dry. Spent over $ 89 to figure out the food sucked… waste of money

I have been wondering for a while why we do not have a decent salad place on Ditmars or for that matter anywhere in Astoria. Yeah I know a lot of places serve salad, but I am talking real salad place, with not just boring dressings, but with some creative salad combinations and dressings. Sandwich bar has been open for a while, and we do visit all of the places in area from Watawa to Kyclades, Hinomaru. However I have always felt that there is no place like Il Bambino for a good mouthwatering sandwich. So I never had any desires to visit this place. Well few days ago I was really craving salad, and as I was passing this place I decided to give it a shot. Older man, who was an owner I am assuming was very welcoming. As per his recommendation I got an eggplant salad. I LOVE eggplant, it is by far my favorite vegetable. I took salad to go and was munching on it in my car. Well, I am very sorry to say that salad was anything but well balanced. I was starving so I ate it, but flavor combinations are just not there. First of all eggplant in itself soaks up oil like a sponge. Adding a basil pesto on top of that oily eggplant, and no acidity in sight leaves you with the aftertaste of oil for hours. Not what I was going for! Pesto is not a dressing, its a pesto! Something more balanced to take out the oiliness from eggplant would make this salad much better. Sad to say, will not be going back. I give a star for a nice old man who was very welcoming.

TL;DR: Cool aesthetic, super friendly and helpful staff, great soundtrack, amazing food. Greek Fries were incredible(creamy feta and super rich olive oil) and a sweet deal for $ 6 – the portion is much larger than I expected. Roast Brisket sandwich is heavenly, coleslaw that comes with is unique and delicious. We stayed for about 45 minutes and were serenaded by: not one but TWO Beck songs, Cake, Minus The Bear, and The Shins. YESPLEASE. We’ll be back for the $ 14 brunch special(unlimited coffee and $ 3 bloodies?!).

Very disappointed in our order. Delivery took over an hour, but at least the delivery boy was really nice and apologetic. It was appreciated. We spent about $ 40 on the jack n cheese bite(the only good thing we received), two sandwiches and a side of sweet potato tots. As for portion sizes on sides, we were underwhelmed. My boyfriend’s pulled pork sandwich was dry as a bone in weird bread. I ordered a sandwich that was listed as a popular item and recommended. It was disgusting. I eat everything. I love food. I’ll really try to eat food when I’m hungry. This roast chicken sandwich looked like cat food. I barely touched it. And am left hungry and short $ 40. Just be careful what you order. Stick to simple items. Yuck.

We accidentally ended up here after a street fair in Astoria. I was trying to show off to my very anti queens friends, how nice queens can be. We took seats at the bar. The place seemed super cute. The food was delicious. Our drinks? Even better. I did think there needed to be more than one bar tender, although, not sure how another person would fit behind the bar. But the bar tender, while nice did not seem to able to take two seconds to breathe between making drinks, and it was a late sunday brunch crowd, place wasn’t totally full. Only other downside was the bathroom is a onesie, so expect a wait for it. I would love to go back again though. Best part this place convinced my jersey friends queens was worth a try.

Definitely found a new place for food and drinks in Astoria! I have walked past this place probably a hundred times and finally got a chance to try it last night. We had beer coupons from our Queens Beer Book and thought it’d be perfect for our beer and food. We ordered corn nuggets and sweet potato tator tots as apps; both were good but the corn nuggets were sooo good. Three others that I was with ordered the grilled cheese brisket sandwich which they all liked and I ordered the eggplant pressed sandwich. So delicious, I already want another one! For beer, I tried the grapefruit beer(I can’t remember the name). I don’t typically like grapefruit but the beer was pretty good. Besides the food being great, our waiter was amazing too! Steward/Stuart was great; funny, personable, attentive, and nice. We’ll definitely be back to try some of the other items on their menu.

My friends have a Queens beer book so we were out on the town trying different beers. Well when you’re drinking lots of beers you’re going to have to eat something eventually, right? We stopped in the Sandwich Bar on a Friday night around 10pm. We were promptly seated outside. After a short wait our wonderful server Stuart/Stewart entered our lives. His young, fun, and positive vibe definitely put the gold seal on you fun night out. He was speedy, attentive, and knowledgable. Now let’s talk about food. The menu was very extensive with all types of options. We had the corn nuggets and sweet potato tots as an appetizer. They were both accompanied by a yummy chipotle mayo dipping sauce. Myself and 2 others in the group ordered the brisket grilled cheese sandwich. The brisket was well cooked and mixed incredibly well with the cheeses on the sandwich. It also had some of the yummy chipotle mayo on it as well. I’ll definitely be back even if it’s only for the corn nuggets and the dipping sauce. The only con is that there is only one restroom for the whole place which I can see causing it issue; however, it didn’t seem to cause a problem while we were there. Out of all the places on Ditmars Blvd to eat I think Sandwich Bar is definitely a solid option.

After a long day and having a light lunch around 4 around 9pm our tummys were rumbling. We went for a walk and decided to stop in here… We were not disappointed at all. We were greeted and seated by Ben our waiter. When the menus came so did our waters. After searching the menu. I liked the option that any salad could be put into a wrap. Its only a $ 1.30 more which really doesnt break the bank. I decided on the roasted eggplant salad to have as a wrap. It had fresh arugula sunflower seeds asiago cheese a fresh basil pesto and spicy corn(wasnt really too spicy) When it came it was grilled to perfection. If you have a salt preferred palate. I wouldnt recommend it. Bc it had light seasonings. It was def more earthy which was really good! Before our waiter Ben came over to take our orders(i think he has a british accent-apologize if you dont!) On the appetizer section they had mac and pepper jack poppers. Which sounded amazing. So i told my bf lets try these they sound really good! HOLYMOLY. These are amazing. You get about 11 – 12 in an order. They are fried but definitely made FRESH. Inside has some kick and super gooey. The pasta was not dried out or gooey and the homemade ranch amazing. I thought the mini tomato jalapeño and cilantro salsa. Was really refreshing. I am so excited about this place i will have to be back soon to try more! Love that they are open late until 12! Def want to come back and try brunch!

At this point, think I need to stop giving them my business. I’m here as I’m in the process of posting this. 1. They ran out of not 1 but 2 beers on tap. This during happy hour on a Thursday. The very apologetic server kept telling me and others tables, «so sorry, we’re out of this… and now out of that.» What kind of «bar» and I use that term extremely loosely, keeps running out of beer??? 2. All I simply ordered was turkey bacon, well done and they served me very burnt bacon. Took that away to bring me under-cooked bacon. I’m done. No more words. Just actions. Update: they have a peachy(as in should not be a server) new female server who is terrible. She judges her patrons and serves them accordingly. As in the most horrible service I’ve experienced. This place has become a shit show.

DONTWASTEYOURMONEY! Bad food and over priced. We ordered a hot brisket sandwich($ 11), a chopped crispy chicken salad($ 11) and a side of fries($ 5). The brisket was actually dried up pulled pork with slaw on top drenched I dressing. This«hot» sandwich was served cold. The chopped up crispy chicken was NOT crispy and also dried out. Not to mention it was the size of an appetizer portion with 7 pieces of lettuce underneath. The fries were like wet noodles, seems like they were microwaved. Didn’t think making fries was that difficult, apparently so. 1 star is being generous. Never again.

A sporadic night that should have taken us to Crave in Astoria, actually lead us here. I was out with wifey and Michael K. And we decided to grab some protein salads after a good chest workout. Sandwich Bar is a cozy place with a big bar area and seating outside to enjoy the weather. We started out with the soup of the day: creamy tomato and quinoa veggie soup. The tomato soup was good but too«tomatoey»(as my wife Unilocaled). On the other hand, the quinoa soup was great, much to my surprise. It was packed with healthy vegetables and whole garlic for good measure. Next, we indulged in a hefty sampler of eggplant salad, tzatzki with pita bread. Following the sampler or in between, I ate the meatball sliders, which was covered by a rich bun. For the entrees, we indulged on our sought after protein salads. Specifically, I had the citrus salad with braised brisket, cranberries, kale, oranges and a hint of feta cheese. For 3 people, the full bill was $ 65. Which was reasonable. We enjoyed everything we had and were filled to the brim after the salad portions. Side Note: we went to thirsty koala after for dessert: the famous chocolate koala balls. They are a fat kids paradise.

Best Happy Hour in north Astoria! In brief: AMAZING Happy Hour, awesome sidewalk seating, and great music selection. Fast drinks and quick food. Yum yum yum yum. AMAZING Happy Hour: I’ve been here 4 times for their Happy Hour, and it’s become a weekly tradition with my girlfriend. The Happy Hour options(including $ 1.25 tacos and sliders & some $ 4 draft beers, among other things) is extremely generous. We usually get 3 tacos/sliders each with a drink and the tab comes to under $ 20 every time after tax. I feel bad tipping 20+% on such an awesome Happy Hour deal. For $ 1.25, the chicken tacos and the pulled pork sliders are such a tasty steal. In addition, the tacos and sliders come pretty quickly! Awesome sidewalk seating: They have about ten, 2-person tables on their sidewalk under some shade(some of the seats are in the sun, which I never mind). It’s on a quiet corner a few blocks from the end of the NQ, which means few cars go directly by the outdoor seating. It’s a nice atmosphere! Great music selection: As a millennial, I’m always down for a great 80s and 90s playlist. Nice waitstaff too!

My roommate is big on gourmet sandwiches so when we first moved to Astoria, he immediately checked out the Sandwich Bar with his cousin who’s a chef. They both told me the food was dismal and I’ve taken that to heart the last two years I’ve lived in Astoria. My girl would also asked to go there and I’d tell her the reason why I wouldn’t. Last night, I got out of work late and by the time I came home to my neighborhood, it was close to 11pm and most restaurants were closed. I was having food on the company dollar and of all the choices, Sandwich Bar was one of the few still open. I did a quick Unilocal check and saw that it had 4 stars so I figured why not; I gave it a go. I ordered the steak pressed sandwich with fries for delivery. The bread was a little soggy but it’s delivery. I’ll give them that. But they forgot the horseradish sauce mentioned in the menu and the sandwich was pretty bland and unflavorful. And I didn’t know you could have soft burnt fries. They were so soft and overcooked that it was pretty unenjoyable. I probably should’ve listened to my roommate. And I feel stupid for trying the place after warning my lady about it.

I often order take-out here and decided to check out their brunch offerings this weekend. I’ve always found the food to be well made and fresh. Came here for brunch and the prix-fixe is $ 13 for a choice from a selection of sandwiches, unlimited coffee/tea, a complementary half boozy drink, and a mini-muffin. You can also do a la carte and opt for the unlimited drinks for $ 11 more. We sat at the bar as the dining area was kind of busy and seemed too packed in. Service was nice but the food did take awhile to arrive. The mini-muffins were a cute one bite starter, and the Bloody Mary was nice and peppery. I had the Monte Cuban that was definitely a knife and fork kind of sandwich. Very flavorful and well composed, love the runny egg on top. It was so filling, I could barely finish it. I wish there were a few more slices of pickles(they only put 2) to help cut how heavy it was but still very good. My date got the Roasted Chicken and Eggs on Italian bread and was also very tasty. The different fresh ingredients they put into the sandwiches are great and work well together. The Brunch A-La-Carte menu is a bit confusing. On top it says in big bold letters BRUNCH A-LA-CARTE(CHOICEOFSIDE: HOMEFRIES, FRIES, SALAD). Unfortunately only two items in that section actually comes with a side in small print. When you’re looking at a menu, you’re not going to read the entire small print of the text that accompanies the choices you’re not interested in so with the large bold heading on top saying CHOICEOFSIDE is misleading as you think they all come with a side. Also, the prices on their website is outdated. Almost everything is more so be careful with that.
