Cocktail only review: Best cocktails in Astoria. These are Dutch Kills standard drinks. THANKYOU. P. S. The kitchen closes too early. xoxo

Well. The bartenders are nice. I’ll give them that. If I have to pay $ 19 for a burger, I’d at least like to have it the way I want it. It’s an additional $ 2 for a slice of cheese and $ 2 for bacon, which whatever — it’s still in NYC. The only option to have it with is fries. ABSOLUTELYNOSUBSTITUTIONS in the kitchen, ie when I am literally the only person in the restaurant and the cooks are making drinks to take back to the kitchen, I can’t get a side salad instead of fries. I don’t see why someone can’t even have the option. Don’t waste your time like I did.

Two. eight stars. The Pomeroy is just«A-OK.» Yeah, there was a lot of woohaa about the chef having been the personal chef for Lady Gaga and there was even more woohaa when Lady Gaga came to town for their grand opening. But sadly, just like the dozens of new establishments popping up around Astoria, The Pomeroy isn’t any better or different from them. I had come with a party of five on weekend around six pm. Since the bar was full we asked for a table and that was fine with them. We ordered our cocktails and drinks and the night started out alright. We tried everything from the Pom Martini, Yuzu Serrano Margarita, Astoria Park Paloma and I’m sure someone else had a beer and wine. All-in-all, the drinks were pretty good. And for the most part, any time we wanted to order another drink our server was there. But things were a little funky when we were deciding to order food or not. When we were looking at the prices of the food we were kind of miffed by it. If you’ve been here, then you know that the prices are well — a little more than what is usually found around Astoria and from the other reviews, it looks like the portions aren’t really that big. So when we mentioned when we were not sure or not whether we were going to order food, our server somewhat rudely told us how he’d have to tell us to leave if that was the case. Now I understand if the place was packed and there were many people waiting for seats. But that wasn’t the case. There were plenty of tables available. Literally maybe eight tables available. Anyways, we ended up staying a little more and ordered the mac and cheese and one of the cauliflower appetizers. They tasted fine. They didn’t blow me out of the water. People mention the vibe and«yes yes yes yes» and all this. Like I mentioned earlier, the décor, vibe, design, etc. inside isn’t unique. There are a ton of new places in Astoria that interior wise looks exactly the same or quite similar. Honestly, the spot felt pretty white, hipster, gentrified, etc. Overall, if you want to oddly pay Manhattan prices in Astoria, then this is the place for you.

Yes yes yes. Everything about this place. Was a bit skeptical when we walked in, setup is a bit weird but we sat in the window and it was a beautiful night. Service here is amazing, our guy really guided us through the drinks and food helped us pick out some things. Everyone here is very friendly. Absolutely loved all the food, Mac and cheese is amazing, had Korean inspired beef tacos, yas. And the cauliflower was delicious, jalapeño sauce on the side it the best part we were dipping everything in it. We also got the fried mozzarella, I would skip this and order something else, it was good but everything else was so amazing it kind of got lost. Drinks are good, lots of fancy ingredients and as you would expect lots of dark spirit drinks for the hipsters to wrap their beards around. Would love to go back and try more food.

I was disappointed after hearing from friends that they liked the place. The atmosphere is nice, one star for that. The staff was attentive, another star for that. Now for the not so good commentary… I ordered the short ribs for $ 26 figuring the Manhattan price on the meal would guarantee a #1 Michelin guide rating. Big time NO! It was 2 chunks of the driest, tasteless bits of meat I ever had. The sauce helped moisten it up but I was still severely disappointed. My partner ordered the short ribs tacos. Another poor choice. Besides the meat being dry too, they served the tacos on a small rectangular plate so every bite of the crispy shell had half of the filling flying all over the table. Had it been served on a larger plate, you could have used a fork to eat whatever landed on your plate but since it was all over the table, it wasn’t edible. End result, expensive and you end up leaving hungrier! Also.sides are extra… ugh#

The fried chicken here is so good!!! Actually, EVERYTHING we ordered was good!!! They have a daily toast special, tonight’s was avocado grapefruit… Delicious! Our table shared olives, Mac and cheese, roasted cauliflower, and the Kale and Brussels sprouts salad as well. EVERYTHING was incredible. I posted pics and descriptions of them, check it out below. Seriously good eats here man, I’m impressed. Looks a bit like someone’s log cabin on Long Island. Vintage memorabilia on the shelves border the entire restaurant and it’s all pretty rustic from the walls to the floor. Super cozy! Bar to the right when you first enter, dining in the back. Great layout. Friendly staff. All happy things, I’m definitely gonna be back for grub

I met a friend here for drinks last night. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails first while chatting. The cocktails that I had were good, with interesting ingredients(I never would have thought to put pineapple juice in a sidecar, but it was pretty tasty). After we finished our first drink each, we decided to get food, asked for the menus, and ordered another round of cocktails. Being newly-diagnosed with Celiac disease, and not really feeling a salad, I couldn’t find that many gluten-free options on the menu. But I got the spaghetti squash, which was good, even if it didn’t really taste like spaghetti like everyone says(not the chef’s fault – I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part, because I really miss pasta). My friend got a burger and really enjoyed it. While we were sitting at the bar, we noticed a lot of families with young children being seated for dinner in the back. I wasn’t aware that this place was kid-friendly, so I was a little dubious at first. I mean, it was dark inside, the bar was packed with young people in their 20s talking loudly, and the music was definitely not at a conversational level. As my friend and I were getting ready to leave, we saw a gentleman holding a very young – I’d say newborn – baby in a carrier. My friend remarked about it to me once we got outside. All she said was, «A baby?» But a woman who was going in as we were leaving overheard and immediately accosted us, using the foulest language imaginable. Turns out this was the child’s mother. We didn’t engage with her, instead turning in the opposite direction and walking away. This woman then proceeded to shout expletives at us until we were out of earshot. Now, as I said, I wasn’t aware that this place was kid-friendly. It was my impression that it was a bar that serves food, and not a restaurant that serves drinks – and if you look at the business info up top, where it says«Good for kids» the response is «no.» Whether I was mistaken in my impression or not, I definitely did not deserve to be called a «f****ing b****» by a complete stranger for something that I didn’t even say. In sum: the cocktails were good, the food was all right, but the clientele was awful. If that woman is any indication of the type of person who frequents the Pomeroy, then I am never going back.

Well the hype is real. Came for dinner and was blown away by the quality of the ingredients used. We got the arancini rice balls and short rib tacos to start. The short rib tacos were on the specials menu so not sure how long they will be sticking around, but I would recommend trying them. Both were so tasty and did not make you feel like a blowfish. Which was surprising since rice balls will usually do that to you. As an entrée I got the burger with the additional bacon and cheese. They have three cheese options: american, gruyère and cheddar. The burger was phenomenal. So tender that my teeth had no clue they were cutting through meat. For dessert we had the bread pudding and it was delectable. Great atmosphere and great service topped it all off

Finally got to try this place after hearing about it so much. The décor and vibe of this place is awesome. I got the rice balls and short rib tacos. The short rib tacos were so good that I didn’t even want to share them lol. For entrée I got the skirt steak with fingerling potatoes and broccoli rabe. The steak was so tender and light. it was perfect. The fingerling potatoes and broccoli rabe were great.

The drinks are delicious and the food I had was great, too. My friends are friendly with the bartenders and it just had a really neighborhoody vibe and I felt welcome and like I belonged. Yay! The pomegranate martini was awesome and not too fruity. The short rib tacos were the best I’ve had(and I’ve weirdly had a lot of short rib tacos). The market salad with poached pears was perfect. The meatballs were a little small, but the was the only negative really. The seasonal toast was large and good tasting, and the fried pickles were a huge portion. The cauliflower was seasoned right, with a nice sauce to pair with. I loved it here!

You know what the best part of a $ 12 cocktail is… When it’s worth $ 12. Had some drinks at the bar, great staff… great effing cocktails. Wasn’t so sure about this place, but boy was I proved wrong. Can’t wait to try dinner here

I went here multiple times with friends for special occasions and everyone tired a different dish/appetizer. We all shared and loved every single plate! Definitely not to be compared to «bar food», the pomeroy is definitely a more upscale menu with healthy options. The drink menu also has a lot to choose from. My favorite meal by far is the skirt steak! Will be coming back. Often.

This place is great. The only reason I will not give this place 5 stars is because the drinks are pretty weak. My fiancé and I went here on a Friday night a few weeks ago. I can’t remember what she had, but I had the pomeroy old fashioned. It was good, but was not strong enough, which was incredibly disappointing, especially after a long week at work. For starters, we split the avocado toast, which was delicious and a great way to start off our meal. For our entrees, we split the mac and cheese appetizer and the red wine & chipotle braised short ribs. The mac and cheese was delicious and we inhaled it in about 5 minutes. The short ribs on the other hand, were good, but we both were not impressed with the cauliflower reduction/sauce, or whatever you want to call it that was served with the meat. It almost reminded me of mayonnaise and I couldn’t even eat it. My fiancé wouldn’t touch it. The owners may want to change the sides that are served with the short ribs as they are ruining an otherwise perfectly good entrée with this cauliflower concoction. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and liked the place. Would recommend.

P-P-P-Pomeroy, P-P-P-Pomeroy… This is the spot where Lady Gaga’s chef and longtime friend recently opened and with that consideration aside, it is actually quite a nice addition the neighborhood. The restaurant is in an open sizable space and yet feels warm and cozy with the bookshelf/wooden detailing on the walls. We purposely waited until the hype died down and the restaurant was able to iron out some of the opening kinks to give it a fair shot. First, I love that this is over on the Ditmars side of Astoria. We have a few places like this but some more options are welcomed. The staff was very friendly and fully explained the specials for the night and was very helpful. The drinks were well made and priced comparable to the other neighborhood spots. We shared the ½ Bird($ 16) which consisted of 5 pieces all seasoned well and nicely fried. It came with two sauces, a delicious mild jalapeño-cilantro dip and a sweet honey carrot dip. We also had the Mac + Cheese($ 15) appetizer which came in a fair sized dish much more filling that we thought. The shell pasta used was great because it held the yummy cheese with each bite. We had a side of fries which seemed a bit small for $ 5 but was crispy and a good add-on to our meal. Some of the items on the menu are a great deal but some of the pricier large plates seemed small in portion size when some of the people around us ordered them so be careful of that when ordering. Overall: the Small Plates tend to be a good size, Large Plates not so much, Chicken Fried is a good deal, and the Veggie + Potatoes sides are a bit small. The Pomeroy does feel like a neighborhood joint and has a nice warm touch. The service is friendly and expedient without feeling rushed. The food and drinks are delicious. Being in the neighborhood, I’ll be coming back soon.

Rule # 1 Believe the Unilocal reviews Rule # 2 if you charge more than $ 25 for a large plate there should be bread! Rule #3 Do not call a &28 dish a large plate if it would feed ½ an Olsen twin I was all in with the cute back room and a ceiling that looks like different floorings. I probably should have read more Unilocal reviews before ordering, but was hungry so I ordered a «large plate” — scallops with cauliflower purée and butternut squash purée with carrot ribbons. When the dish came out I was like where’s the cauliflower which was a teaspoon swished at the bottom of the plate with a tablespoon of the butternut squash also swished No complaint about the taste as the Flavors married well, but I felt ripped off and hungry after the food and didn’t need to leave Manhattan for no value in Queens.

Now, here is a lesson in GaGastronomy… On October 7th, twitter exploded with the landing of one of the world’s most uniquely talented singers and actresses smack-dab in the heart of Astoria, Queens. While images of Lady GaGa were retweeted and shared across every corner of social media – and local blogs momentarily blacked out – the reason behind her appearance is the real reason I took notice and reached out for a closer look. The Pomeroy is a new neighborhood restaurant in Astoria under the brilliant direction of Bo O’Connor – who was most recently the personal chef for her childhood friend, Stefani Germanotta(a.k.a. Lady Gaga), on her global tour. O’Connor’s menu features seasonal and fun new American fare that includes snacks such as frickles(fried pickles) with yogurt dill dip and arancini(rice balls) with porcini and Fontina Val D’Aosta. Small plates range from golden fried mozzarella triangles to a mound of mashed avocado crowned with grapefruit wedges, chili, lemon zest, and a birds nest of pea shoots accompanied by toast points. Knockout entrees include an exquisitely juicy fried half or whole chicken accompanied with surprisingly addictive honey carrot and jalapeño pesto dipping sauces, a skirt steak with herb chimuchurri, and a luxurious mound of red wine and chipotle braised short ribs. Desserts like the insanely addictive brown butter pecan bars round out the menu, and you won’t want to stop before diving into a rich boat of banana bread pudding blanketed in dark chocolate. A seasonal cocktail menu features twists on the classics, like the Pom-Sidecar with cognac, fresh pineapple and lemon juice, and a cherry – or the Ditmars Blvd, with whiskey, honey, fresh lemon juice, smoked lemon peel, and rosemary. In step with O’Connor’s vision, British designer Benjamin Kay of Adorn Designs re-invented the food-centric London gastropub in a uniquely New York way in his design of The Pomeroy. The relaxed, sun-filled 50-seat room features high ceilings and warm, wood paneled walls with cream bead boards and moldings. The space has simple, hand-crafted tables alongside vintage green porcelain and white tin lighting from the 1940’s, all salvaged from an old factory in Massachusetts. Bringing the space to life are classic mirrors, original hand-drawn illustrations, and vintage photographs from many classic American design periods. The 16-seat bar features hard white pine repurposed from an old bowling alley. Whether you are a Gypsy, an Americano, or you were Born This Way, you can relax your Poker Face and Just Dance over to Ditmars. The Pomeroy is serving up some crazy good food in a cozy new atmosphere that is sort of making me go GaGa.

Wow, another millennial bourgeois gastropub offering imitation Southern standards relabeled«new American comfort food». Only now it’s invaded Ditmars. Which means I have to wade through a pack of screeching trust fund scenesters to get to some delicious stuffed shells at Alba’s. Astoria, I thought you had better taste than this. If a carpetbagger like O’Connor opened a restaurant in my hometown(Memphis) and charged $ 15 for mac n cheese, rest assured she’d be tarred, feathered, and carried out of town on a rail. But I can only hope that Ditmars, a diverse community packed with authentic restaurants, sees through the hype and sends The Pomeroy packing.

Just got back from Pomeroy. A lot of hype for not a great quality. They don’t take reservations so you have to wait a lot to get a table. We waited 45 minutes even though we were told it’s going to be less than 30. Anyways that part was ok, it should be a good sign that it’s crowded. Plus we thought that the food is going to make up for it. Anyways. We got our table and, wait for it. Had to wait another hour to get our food. Which also wouldn’t be that great of a deal if we didn’t see two other couples order the same things we did and them finishing their entire meals and paying before we even got ours, not to mention that both of the couples arrived after we ordered our food. Now the MAINPART. Being a food critic for a long time, I’ve seen a lot of things and reviewed a lot of places for different magazines. This however, I haven’t seen yet. After all of this when the food finally arrived their special of the day which was Chilean sea bass, was not cooked. It absolutely wasn’t eatable, you couldn’t even slice it with your knife how raw it was. Absolutely terrible. You can find the photo uploaded. The burger was ok, would not have it again. The only decent thing was the fried chicken. And even that was not that great since some of the pieces were underdone and bloody. We were looking forward to trying this but I hate to say it it’s not worth the hype.

Came here yesterday with friends for a meeting which was the first of many stops. I usually don’t go to Astoria often but I may have to change that if this place keeps up the heat. First let’s start off with the drinks. I had their signature old fashioned, and let me tell you it was strong and bitter but too damn good. Only had one of those as was feeling kinda lit lol. So now on to the food. My friends ordered the whole fried chicken, which I had a taste of. Trust and believe that chicken was off the hook, and the sauces were dope. My favorite was the honey carrot sauce, I’m in love with it. Personally I ordered the Pomeroy Burger with cheese, medium rare(the only true way to eat a burger IMO). It came with a side of slaw and shoestring fries. I’m picky about my burgers but theirs was juicy and fresh, you can tell they took the time to make this the right way. Still bummed we missed Lady Gaga by two days as she showed up for the grand opening. The best part was when one of the bartenders, Andy hooked me up with a Pepsi mixed with grenadine as an alternative to not having cherry coke. That really did it for me! Overall good vibes and a excellent dining experience made even more perfect with a menu done by one of Lady Gaga’s personal chefs.

Solid new spot that has the same exact kind of food as The Bonnie nearby. Given a separate little section on the menu, the Fried Chicken actually wasn’t particularly great($ 16 for ½ bird). However, the Burger was excellent($ 15 + $ 2 for cheese and bacon), and the Mac & Cheese was even better($ 15). I would still come back, though it’s hard to pick among so many other great restaurants in the concentrated block(e.g. excellent pizza at Tufino next door).
