Went here with a friend after a late night of bar hopping and we both got the fried chicken sandwich. Days later we were still talking about how delicious that sandwich was! The hot sauce butter was the perfect condiment to top the hot and crispy chicken on a fresh potato roll. The service was excellent, never had to wait for anything. It was our waitress’ first day and she was very friendly and well-versed in the menu items. To top it all off, the prices here are incredibly reasonable. Had a great experience and will definitely be back!

I went to have a drink since I am a cocktail lover. It was the Saturday evening and the bar was already packed with people(mostly young crowd). I grabbed the bar seat and got my cocktail which was served by the professional short guy. The drink was really awesome, sweet and delicious exactly how I like. All other guests were ordering the beer. It seems all of them were beer lovers. I liked the ambience of the bar. The interior is all made of reclaimed weathered wood. It has such a nice atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. If you are going to visit this place you can not go wrong.

Great bar in astoria to grab drinks with friends. Definitely the kind of place you can invite a large group of friends to. Highly recommend!

Came here for dinner once, didn’t like it… Then, I went back with friends for some afternoon drinks on a nice summer Sunday and the patio was lovely and the QUEENS letters look cool, but the drinks were terrible, even the mimosas! I think they did a great job with the design and décor but they need to focus on what is truly important for the business to continue growing that is… the quality of the food and drinks!

Love this bar. Love this patio! They also have great snacks(the blistered shishito peppers) and great cocktails. The music is always excellent(upbeat indie rock) with a cool vibe and décor. I’ve been on a lot of dates here, brought friends here, and come here alone to read. My only complaint is I wish they had a better beer selection. I’m a beer and wine gal only and always end up getting the same beer because they only gave 4 – 5 kinds.

A really comfortable local bar with friendly staff and nice fresh draft beer. Great burgers too and affordable menu. Cool ambiance. They have an outdoors spaced smokers, featuring a unique and impressive neon sign.

There is a short guy who bartends. I have rarely seen a rude asshole as him. Never recommend this bar to anyone.

Stopped in on a Tuesday around 7 pm. The $ 10 burger and beer caught my eye. I was expecting a mediocre burger, however it turned out delicious. I love me some onion strings. They also went plain and simple with the sesame seed bun which I loved! In my opinion I think a brioche bun usually overwhelms the taste of the beef. But who am I to think that? I’m not a food critic just a Unilocaler.

I got here at 5:45pm and told one of the hostess that I was here for a birthday and she pointed back of the house. I had no clue which table were reserved then I asked her again and sat at a round table with bar stools then the birthday girl’s boyfriend’s brother Dylan arrived and sat down with me. A little after the hostess comes over to us and asked which birthday are we here for… SMH! So Dylan called Mercedes(the birthday girl) regarding her reservation as it wasn’t stated in the computer. Finally the birthday girl arrived at the restaurant to straighten out and she had an email to prove her reservation. The hostess had to get in touch with one of the managers. Instead of really accommodating my friend’s birthday celebration dinner. The restaurant made all of us waited a pretty long time for an available table since it got packed around 6:30ish. Seriously the management communication really sucks here! When we FINALLY get a table on a nice high booth and had to ask for another table to close out the huge gap… really c’mon its common sense! We aren’t there for your alcohol but want a sit down birthday dinner. The food menu isn’t much so I didn’t know why the hostess/server didn’t even thought to ask if we wanted food but to assume we were just drinking… not good! After we ordered our individual dishes, the hostess was nice to bring a round of complimentary shots as we waited for our food but still it didn’t sit well with me. Cocktails: and how was pretty popular at our table so it must be a refreshing drink Food: Small Plates menu: Mercedes and her boo Cameron shared parker house rolls, grilled wings and mac n cheese fried chicken sandwich(3) w/french fries… it was VERYYUMMY sandwich a good burger(2) w/french fries and another with arugula salad fish ‘n chips(1) Overall the food was very delicious but the two stars are going to stay as the experience wasn’t a WOW factor!

Love the queens sign on the patio! Love love. Great ambiance in the back. One of the male bartenders was quite rude the second time I came here, so I haven’t come back since. However, my first experience was great — liked the pretzel with really good cheese dip sauce!

You gotta have to check out the patio when you come to Sekend Sun. The QUEENS sign that can be seen from the front is a great attraction. We were here for happy hour and Geeks Who Drink trivia night on Monday. I thought the food was good. I really enjoyed Shishito Peppers and Grilled Wings. A Good Burger was quite good as well. I enjoyed my time in the patio with that big red neon sign. Trivia quiz made it even more fun. Great beer selection from local breweries in NYC!!! Rockaway ESB and Finback were awesome!

I been meaning to write a review for sekend sun after my last miserable visit. This place has a lot of potential. The bar looks newly renovated & they did an awesome job. I love the QUEENS red florescent logo in the outdoor patio. Unfortunately, Sekend Sun falls very short of expectations. Ive now been 3 times and each is worse than the last. The three main reasons this place sucks is pretty simple. Its dirty, the food is limited(also not very good) and cocktails are undrinkable. If they just regularly cleaned their tables, updated their menu and actually hired some one who knows what theyre doing behind the bar thennn maybe they could pull the look their giving off.(That look is a cool cocktail bar with great drinks and food). But their most glaring issue are the cocktails. I mean thats supposed to be the bread and butter and on my last visit i had to return my drink(something i never do) because it just tasted nasty. Plus it was served in a soda glass and didnt resemble anything of top notch. Sekend Sun you could/should be so much better.

Eric and I stopped in for drinks before a dinner with friends. My Manhattan was delightful and the bartender was welcoming and friendly. The menu looked really great and I would definitely come back for more cocktails and food.

Sekend Sun has now become a bar that I frequent at least once a week after work. I’ve only been here for beers but I appreciate their happy hour and the laid back atmosphere. There are 2 TVs by the bar so it’s nice to come and watch whatever game is on any given night. Haven’t had any of the food yet but perhaps I’ll give it a go when the kitchen’s open.

I love this place. The waiter is always super friendly, and they have a great variety of cocktails(in particular the Black Baby Grand, which screams fall) and decent food. The atmosphere is nice, dim, intimate yet casual. Get the shishito peppers.

*** Please note that this single star is for service only. Came here for a leisurely Saturday brunch, was impressed with the food but aghast with the service. Pros: * Spacious venue with warm and humble décor. There’s a long bar, comfortable open waiting area in the front with open window, and a lovely outdoor seating area adorned with the neon Queens sign. * Because Sekend Sun is fairly new, there was no wait for a table. * My gf and I indulged in the brunch special($ 14 for entrée, cocktail and coffee), and were very pleased with our beautifully presented dishes made with fresh and simple ingredients. My Frittata with smoked sausage & pimento cheese was cooked perfectly and her Scrambled Eggs with Home Fries & Arugula Salad was delicious. The $ 6 Beignets with powdered sugar were hot and fresh(takes about 10 min to make) and came in a sizable portion good for a table of 6. Sadly the Nutella Beignets are not available during Brunch. Major cons: * Having lived in New York for over 6 years, I don’t remember the last time table service was this terrible and disorganized. This was, by far, the most abysmal service I’ve experienced… * Firstly when I walked in no-one came to receive me. It was only when I asked staff for a table that I was informed Sekend Sun was a «grab your own table» kinda place… which is confusing for first-time customers… * Our waitress Jess never gave us water and left us with one napkin for the table. She got so many surrounding orders wrong that everyone in the backyard gave each other confused and exasperated looks. The busboys with dishes were standing around awkwardly wondering what goes where. The customers actually had to tell the staff what they ordered again to clear things up. At least 2 parties left angrily before ordering because no-one tended to them for so long. * When the check and the boxes we requested for Beignets didn’t come for over 20 minutes, we frustratingly went to pay our tab at the bar. Our server nor the guy who closed our tab at the bar apologized for the atrociousness. To top things off, Jess wore such low riding jeans that as she bent down to serve dishes her butt-crack said hello. UGHHHH! HORRIBLEWITHCAPITALLETTERS. Even just an apology or explanation would have gone a long way. To this day no apology has been given… so I stand by my review.

The first visit was on Superbowl Sunday and they had happy hour deals where the beers ended up being 5 bucks on top of the brunch cocktail deals. The lady got the mimosa which she liked-apparently on the strong side. The lady got the frittata on the suggestion of our server/bartender and I got the biscuits and gravy. Right away, the lady loved the frittata and was so happy that she ordered it. My biscuits and gravy seemed a little strange-the biscuits were almost roll-like but the gravy was delicious and the biscuits actually were a good compliment to it. On top of that, there were eggs along with it. I know that sounds dumb but a lot of places have biscuits and gravy and that’s it. I was having such a good time I ordered their baby grand a nice little twist to an old fashioned. In addition, Jay and Gary one of the owners and the chef came by to talk to us and we even got to try the Nutella beignets on the house. Even if we did pay for them the nutella fudge mixture went well with the delicious little fried dough balls. The second visit was this past Sunday where they had live music and we sat at the bar. The service was still good and while I tried their shrimp and grits-it was good but on the smaller side for the price. I ended up ordering the tater tots, which were more like tater middle schoolers, large delicious potato cubes really with a spicy cheese sauce. I still was a little peckish so we ended up splitting the rings and vinegar. The crispy salty breading was all that I needed to go over the top.

I like the ambiance of this bar. The interior is all wood(walls, tables, chairs), which I love. They did a great job with the lights as well, and in the back there are some high-top tables along side a wall mirror. There’s an outdoor patio area with a big neon light that says«QUEENS» which was closed as of now because of the winter season. Their drink selections aren’t vast, a short list of beers, cocktails, and wine. I tried three of their beers, they were alright, but my friends loved the cocktails there, especially the Me and Her.

Ingrid S. and I were pretty much the first Unilocalers here which is pretty damn awesome. We stumbled upon it and went in because it was a pretty cool looking place and it was unknown to me… which striked me as odd since I pride myself on knowing all of the bars/restaurants worth knowing in this neighborhood. Being that we had already consumed a heavy Brazilian buffet dinner and enough adult libations for the night we decided to pop in here and get an order of their Nutella Beignets. The two bartenders on hand were super friendly, accomodating and knowledgable about their beers. It’s a super big peeve of mine when you work at a bar with a better than average beer selection and it’s clear you don’t know anything about beer… or at least the brews on hand. That was not the case at Sekend Sun. Awesome. The Nutella Beignets were freshly made, fluffy/airy, topped with powdered confectioners sugar and served on a bed of what was advertised as Nutella. To be honest we felt that it tasted more like chocolatey fudge syrup and less like any sort of hazelnut spread — but either was it was delicious and a good serving to justify the $ 6 price point. I learned from one of their bartenders(or perhaps he was the owner?) that they are connected to a gastropub in Brooklyn and it kind of shows since their ambience is very similar to the dark, rustic, vintage-y vibes that several of the newer gastropubs have in the BK. My visit here was a pleasant one and after asking if they would eventually have a brunch menu, I was excited to get a «yes». HUZZAH!!! They also played really awesome music… mostly lesser known 90s hits and lots of early 2000s indie… at least the night we were there. I’m also a big fan of the bold, neon red QUEENS lights in the rear seating area, lol. It photographs well. Sekend Sun is a welcomed addition to Astoria and I hope this place does well :).
