After another popular Astoria hair salon destroyed my hair, I decided to go to Blo to fix the horror. Niki is an expert colorist and saved my hair. She colored it and highlighted exactly as I asked and trimmed it as I wanted. They are a bit pricey and I’ve never spent this much on my hair before but it was worth it. My hair looks good not like the mess it was. It was worth the money. Everyone in there is helpful and friendly. Every stylist in there looked like she did a great job since I was in there for 3 hours and saw a lot(my hair was that bad). They also take their clients on time and no waiting even though it was busy. Niki gave me and my hair the attention it needed and will definitely go back there again.

I have been here 2x, once for highlights and a haircut, second time for more highlights. This place is great! John, was my hairstylist and I can not say enough about his work. The highlights came out great, and I love my cut! The entire staff is very accommodating! I highly recommend this place!

All thanks to John I’m LOVING my hair again! I’ve been searching for a good hair salon in Astoria for a while now and I’m super happy that I’ve found this place. People there are very friendly. John was patient and very experienced. He gave me good advice on how to deal with my type of hair and gave me the short hair cut I wanted. I wasn’t sure about it at first bc I’ve never had hair shorter than shoulder length but it turned out looking great!!! Thank you John!!!

I can’t even begin to describe how thrilled I am to have found this place. After having my hair absolutely butchered by my previous hairdresser in my quest to obtain the pixie cut I’d so longed for I was absolutely devastated! In total I was able to hold out for 4 days before realizing it was simply impossible for me to live with the sad excuse of a haircut I recieved and was blessed to come across Blo It Out on Google. As someone with naturally curly hair(which I prefer to wear straight) I was beginning to doubt I’d ever have the cut I wanted. Everything changed when I met Gina. She was quick to understand what it was I wanted and taking into account my curly hair was able to pinpoint the perfect cut for me. She quickly got to work and I found myself so unbelievably at ease in her care. She was finished before I could bat an eye and I am still as doughy eyed as I was when I first saw the finished product. I can’t believe this is my hair! I absolutely love my cut and can proudly say I’ve finally found my hairdresser! The entire Blo It Out atmosphere is great. Everyone is incredibly friendly and easygoing. Totally worth the almost hour long commute from the Bronx!

What can i say. hands down the BEST hair salon around. I continue to recommend my friends and family to go to Blo it out, all the way from Long Island. Well you may ask… WHY. the quality of work and attention to detail by everyone in the salon is what makes this place great. Niki is my stylist and she is the nicest, most talented, hardworking stylist out there. Everytime Niki does my hair it comes out PERFECT. She will do your hair exactly the way you want it and she gives great recommendations. Niki is up to date with the hair industry and trends, as she is the expert :) I have been going to Blo it out since i moved to Astoria about a year ago and i will not go anywhere else. Everyone at the salon is super friendly, the salon is clean and i look forward to going to the salon everytime i need my hair done. YOUMUSTGOHERE!

I went most of my life without ever dying my hair but have always wanted to. My natural hair color is like a dark butterscotch blonde, which I love but felt like I needed a change. Ever since seeing Titanic as a kid I’ve always wanted red hair(yea super cheesy: P). The first place I went to was this crazy expensive salon in Beverly Hills. I had a hard time explaining what I wanted, since I had never colored my hair before(I said I wanted my hair color but add more red. meaning don’t make it darker or lighter– just warmer). She said that was too«boring» so I chose medium auburn, which was nice but ended up being way darker than I wanted. It also faded SUPER fast. She was very nice but I just felt like she didn’t really try to listen to what I wanted to come up with a color I’d love. Anyway! Fast forward Dec. of last year when I was visiting my parents for Christmas(I’m in San Francisco) and had my hair dyed by Marcella at Blo It Out salon. Once again, I felt like I couldn’t describe what I wanted in words BUT Marcella actually listened, looked at the pics I provided, then showed me some swatches and pics until we chose something. I ended up choosing dark golden copper with added gloss, as per her suggestion. I can’t even describe how happy I was with the results. It was exactly what I wanted, which I couldn’t put into words. I think it looks better than my natural hair color since I have very light skin tones. I get complements left and right with this color, and I’m so in love it with it. I even had a complement when I was walking to be picked up(even though I was wearing a hood because it was raining! lol). Marcella even threw in a blow dry, which I hadn’t planned on getting(I usually just let my hair air dry). Several months later the color is still bright(I also use anti-fading shampoo and conditioners for redheads to keep it fresh) and has only slightly faded to a color that I still love. I have a hard time finding salons that I like and trust but once I find one I’ll be a lifer. The prices are great too– I spent way less than I did at the first salon I want to in BH– even with bleach and gloss. I will definitely be coming back here when I come back to NY to visit my parents.

I take public transportation for an hour to get my hair done by John at Blo It Out. The salon is impeccably clean and never overcrowded or loud. Classy all the way. Gina is friendly and makes sure her customers are taken care of. As for John– he has been doing my hair for close to 16 years and I won’t trust anyone else. His color is *always, always* perfection and his cuts are personalized to look good on each individual. He will also show you how to style it once you are on your own. I give him a general sense of what I want and then I sit back and let him work his magic! I’ve had several colors and styles over the years and have never been disappointed. Even if I move further away I will make the trip to Blo It Out so John can do my hair. Thanks, John!

After losing my stellar hair dresser I was left with the daunting task of finding a new person to trust with cut, color and treatment for my hair. UGH. What a journey it’s been! I went to a few different places to test out, but ultimately my requirements were narrowed to: Location, Moderate Prices, Reliable Services I booked my hair appointment for sombre, single process, hair treatment, cut/wash and blow dry with Marcella. The prices between Blo and other Manhattan salons does not make it a crazy deal but I feel like I’m not compromising on quality, which definitely checks off my reliable services musts. I would still consider prices moderate here. Your not breaking the bank to get a trendy hair cut/color/style which I’m not sure you’d be able to get with a $ 20 hair cut down the block. I felt at ease knowing Marcella knew what she was doing and that– is worth it to me! The location is on the tail end of Steinway, the last stop on the N/Q train: Ditmars Blvd which is doable for me. The ultimate seal for me though was my husbands reaction when I came home, he literally said this is the best my hair has looked for a while(which I’m not sure how to take but I’m just rolling with it LOL).

So I’m not your normal girl don’t get my hair done often at all. I wait like 1 year before its time. So you can imagine I was nervous but this place did wow great! Totally blew my mind on how great and the time they spent to figure out what color would fit best with me since sadly I have used box dye. :( If this is your first time here you will love it and love the owner! I will be back for sure and maybe not wait a full year lol

This review is for my experience getting a color treatment a few months ago.(If it was for hair cuts, I would give 5 stars). I’ve been debating whether or not I should vocalize my experience but since it’s still bothering me, I feel I need to express it. I hadn’t colored my hair in years but decided to switch it up a little bit. I made an appointment with Niki intending to get an ombré color treatment. She ended up telling me that balayage would be a better choice for me and I agreed after she told me I would look like a «Victoria’s Secret model». I wasn’t aware of the fact that balayage cost $ 60 more and she didn’t tell me that the price would increase from what I had originally wanted to get. While the color was sitting in my hair, Niki approached me and said that she was going to use a color glaze on my hair. She made it sound like it was required/included so I didn’t disagree. It was something to the effect that the color had been in my hair for too long or something? She didn’t tell me this would cost extra at all. Little did I know that $ 45 would be added to my tab. To make a long story short, when I was told what the services had cost, I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach because my original expectation was around $ 150. It ended up being closer to $ 300. I paid because I didn’t want to make a fuss and I thought«well I received these services and I didn’t ask what the price was». Regardless, this should have been communicated to me upfront. I felt played. Because of my experience, I’m sad to say I’m never going back here again. I had been a customer there for a number of years and always had a good experience. After this though, I don’t trust how they run their business. It wasn’t ethical in my opinion. To each their own though.

This is my second time here for a cut and color and both experiences have been great! Marcella did a red ombré for me back in May, which lasted forever, thanks to her tips. I’m writing this as my new color sets — I walked in expecting just a consultation and scheduling after, and Marcella offered to do it on the spot! I’m extremely appreciative, since my schedule tends to get crazy during the week. Something I like about this place is that they are up front and honest about their prices. When I consulted for my first cut and color I knew exactly how much I was going to be paying when I set up my appointment. They also didn’t try to push products or extra services on me. Lastly, they honored a Unilocal voucher that’s for new clients on the 2nd visit that I forgot to use on my first(after checking date of purchase). In NYC, I feel like that’s unheard of! Thanks Blo It Out! You’re the best!

Let’s be honest, this salon is pricey… but Marcella did an AMAZING job on my hair. She took the time to listen to me but as I was not sure she gave me precious advice and made sure that I would be happy with her suggestion. I wanted a sombre but ended up with full highlight and a glaze. The bad thing is they did not really warned or asked me. So total price with the cut and blow was 275 $ which is, even for long hair, SUPER expensive. I feel like the blow out should be offered when you spend that much money!

I came to blo it out for a cut and fashion color and am so glad I did! I’ve wanted blue streaks in my hair for a long time, and Marcella did an incredible job layering the highlights so that they are fun and stand out without being too bright or chunky. The cut she gave me also highlights the color in a fun way. She made the blue look both fun and sophisticated. What more could I ask for? I did a quick consult Friday and got the whole thing done the next day. Marcella is super nice and helpful, as was the owner of the place, who was approachable and helpful, explaining how to care for my new color. The cost was the only drawback, as it was definitely a splurge for me. But I used their Unilocal coupon for new customers(a good deal) and it was worth every penny. I’ll definitely be going back, as their customer service and obvious passion for the job are matched by their skills!

If it was possible i would have added more stars! So. i had a freaky hair accident with another«stylist». i went to get an ombré and i ended up having 2 separate colors on my head, one was orange and the other was dark brown. No blending at all, you could actually see the line. It was AWFUL! You can see pictures !!! So first thing in the morning i found an appointment at the salon with Niki. First time here and definitely not the last! She is truly a miracle worker. She managed to save my hair and give me an amazing sun kissed color. I couldn’t thank her enough and i definitely recommend her. I will be back! The place is great with a friendly staff, i met Gina(the owner) and a guy(forgot the name sorry) that works there. Very nice and caring people! I wish them the best!!! Thank you all so much and i will see you soon!!!

I had a nice experience here with Nikki and I will be back again. After having my hair chopped off at a salon down the street in a most unsavory way, I came here to have it salvaged. Nikki did a lovely job and made me feel like I could actually go back into public again. Someone took my pixie cut and gave me a GI Jane on the sides and left a clump of hair on top. Nikki asked me how I had *actually* wanted my hair to look, so she could ensure that the way she cut it would be appropriate to the way I wanted it to grow out. I showed her a picture and she went about making my head look nice again. She is also a color specialist. My hair is too short to color right now(it’ grows very quickly and it’d look awkward within a week or two) but I would definitely return to her for a cut and color.

Only if I had gone to Blo It Out earlier… Marcella is my go to lady and I can step out of the salon satisfied, feeling beautiful, without breaking my budget.(I have gotten cuts from the range of $ 20-$ 100+… hair roller coaster ride, not fun.) I was growing out my hair from a shoulder length bob, aching so bad for a classic layered haircut to give me some volume. Marcella understood very quickly what I wanted. I didn’t have to explain much and she just painted the exact picture in my mind back to me with words. The salon’s vibe is very friendly, unpretentious, laid back but polished. I never felt rushed even when I book my appointments towards the end of the day. The chic chat is never awkward or too much. And on top of that Gina, the owner, makes you feel that you are appreciated as a client. 4.5 stars.
