Great place! Authentic Irish bar with a great tap selection. Bartenders are very friendly and attentive. Not just some kid looking for a tip, but people who actually care about your experience. The place is spotless and I always have a great time here. Only downside is the music can be hit or miss, and the crowd seems to change depending on the night

A very hidden hole in the wall kind of place, but surprisingly hip when you enter. After bar hopping in the west side of Astoria, one of us Unilocaled and came across this establishment. So we ended up heading over to this locale. The music was ok. It was not your usual top 40 hits or popular and sounded a lil folk or grassroots. We decided to order at least one beer or drink at this watering hole. Drink because of me, but I ordered a beer. I ordered the pumpkin ale because I love anything pumpkin. We had a nice time chatting it up and joking around. I might check out this place again.

Perhaps when a «regular» sneezes into a patrons drink, you should go ahead and replace that drink.

Cool bar, I’m glad I live close to it. I came here for the abysmal game 4 of the world series. I brought food from Thirsty Koala as per another review recommendation. Walking into a bar with awesome food and not being forced to buy crappy microwaved /fried bar junk was awesome. I sat and was promptly greeted by Mark who did an amazing job of taking care of me all night — what a cool guy! Here’s some Pros of this place: * Mostly great crowd. One guy was being excessively rowdy but I think he tired himself out as the night went on. Everyone else was cheering and clapping appropriately. Met a couple pretty cool people just chilling at the bar. * Clean enough bathroom — I had very low expectations as this is a dive but I was impressed! * Decent selection of beer on tap. I’m typically used to more craft beer on tap but I understand that they had a decent enough selection to serve it’s purpose. They had more crafty stuff in bottles so that’s an option. * Great guiness on tap! * Mark, the bartender was super. * Lots of TVs! * Bring your own food! Order food from anywhere. * Accepts credit cards, no whining about it! Cons:(Not many) * I find it really odd that there’s no TV’s behind the bar. There’s some on the sides and tons across from it but it’s odd that you have to turn to see the tv. I’m nitpicking here =/ * I lost count of how many beers I had by the end of the night to do the math on my bill — but I think it came to about $ 6.50 per. I think that is high for the area and the type of bar this is. I hear they do buybacks so that’s pretty good. I want to stop in for Happy hour one day to try the cheaper draft beer prices and I hear they provide food from Sal, Kris and Charlie’s during some games — I want to check that out too.

Got kicked out for not buying a drink right away. We were told to leave because we were bad for business. As far as I am concerned they will never get a dollar from me.

If I could give this place 0 stars I definitely would! this male bartender we had tonight was what we call white trashes trash… even they wouldn’t associate with him… he was so rude, unprofessional and disrespectful, I was so shocked. I went to Astoria Tavern tonight for a friend’s bday. .we have come here many many times and have never had a problem until tonight. this bartender was giving free: drinks and buy backs to everyone in the bar except us… which we were a group of 20 ppl so we were spending money.. not that I care about a free drink I was curious, so I asked… do we get buy backs and this bartender responded, now that u asked u get nothing and a bunch of other crap he kept talking all night long. I am literally still shocked! I don’t want to get into detail because it will pissed me off even more but, save yourself the headache and annoyance and go somewhere else where the bartender is not rude and make u feel welcome. and here is his photo so you know who he is. this guy only seemed to care about drinking 80% of the bars profit… poor bar owner is being stolen from every time this dude is working. .smh

One of the best dive bars in astoria. Good juke box, fun karaōke nights, darts and good beer. Peanuts are in a barrel at the front, which is a nice plus. Wish the drinks were a tiny bit cheaper. Dives should have dive prices!

This place is: 1. Usually loud and packed 2. Has karaōke on certain nights — this can either be a positive or a negative if you know what I mean. 3. Cheap drinks. 4. Friendly bartenders 5. An ATM This bar was one block from my apartment and is definitely the local hangout for the neighborhood. Just three blocks from the Astoria-Ditmars N/Q station — major plus!

A nice local pub. Nothing special. Was here on a Monday night. I like that they showed the Mets game. Beers were high average for the area($ 6.25 per beer)

My first time here and I see what the other locals are talking about. Relaxed, old school pub with a lot of charm. Friendly bartender. Good mix of crowd ranging in age. Exactly what the doctor ordered. My kind of place. Will definitely come back.

My favourite local bar. Awesome HH deals. And free food courtesy of SKC next door when a Rangers game is on — this alone tempts me to become a Rangers fan. Bartenders are super friendly and got a great sense of humour. Decent selection of beers, though a bit limited for dark beers which are my thing. It’s also a small-ish place, with maybe 5 – 6 TVs. But the ambience is laid back and welcoming, and I’ll be coming back for the vibes alone.

Nice little neighborhood bar that opened up a few blocks from my mothers house. The closest bar to her apartment before was McAnns, which tends to get insanely packed– so it was a welcomed addition. They have coors on draft which always gets points with me! My fathers beer of choice being Shocktop, they offer that as well. They have plenty of TVs and feature the games(turning off the juke box during games for ample hearing) The place wasn’t packed to the brim, but only had a couple open seats when we arrived. Cozy atmosphere, close to the train and great priced beer/drinks– what more could one want? Food… one could want food! They don’t serve food! So come on a full belly or ready to go somewhere else to eat.

Random 80s Karaōke Night(hahaha). Good crowd, friendly staff, and a load of nostalgic songs. Great place to discover that hidden talent and share a few drinks with friends.

Trivia is on Tuesdays, get ready to lose;) Astoria Tavern is a clean and friendly dive like bar? They don’t serve food but you can order a sandwich from the most delicious deli in the world next door and bring it in.

byo food! How can you not like a bar that is BYO Food? Now, while I won’t tell you the sordid tale of how I ended up here, I will tell you that Mark is the man. Where else can you open a tab w/a Bartender, drink to your hearts content, and then have them put you in a cab on the way home at the end of the night? Suffice it to say that I owe this dude… so, the Astoria Tavern is my go-to drinks place now. Tons of tvs and they’ll play whatever you want, pretty decent beer and liquor selection and THEBESTPOUROFGUINNESS I HAVEEVERHADINMYLIFE(even while in Ireland). Now, growing up in Ireland these blokes now how to make a good pour w/the clove on top. Can’t beat that. Prices are very fair, and a little on the low end. DOIT if you’re in the area. In fact, you will see me often go from The Thirsty Koala for food, then over to the Tavern for my drinkies. There’s a well worn path in the sidewalk from all of my going back and forth…

Astoria Tavern is a wonderful addition to the bar scene of Astoria and LIC. They have only been open 3 weeks or so and I think the ownership is part of the Irish Rover. I guess I did not notice construction over the last few months while going to Sal, Kris and Charlie, since the bar is only 25 feet away and this could be a new regular routine. Go to SKC, then go to Astoria Tavern for lunch. Astoria Tavern does not serve food. The interior of the bar is very nice. It has that new bar coat which some people like and some don’t. Personally I found the place very warm and welcoming. It had a combination brick walls, wood bar and beam ceilings. Plenty of TVs(16) and they where well place throughout the tavern. Lighting and music, on point. Tuesday night’s bartender was Kevin. An Irish guy who definitely knows his trade. I was greeted immediately and was engage in conversation a couple of times. Since the dozen or so customers where all new, he was working the crowd. Job well done. I tend to stick to Bud Lite bottle when I go to a new place and at $ 4.50(I think), fair price for the area. I did notice 14 or so craft beers on tap, including Guinness. They seem to cater to the ever changing neighborhood, late 20’s, 30’s. Their was a nice mix on my recent visit; suit and tie, shorts, causal, etc. I did notice two things that may drive me crazy and since this is a new place they get a pass. If you sit near the front, you will be blinded by the outside lights beaming in through the very top of the front windows. Very annoying. Wasted space. I am sure it will be address in time. The second is more of a personal vice. I like my TVs bigger. I am so use to these big ass units, that I can view from anywhere. The tavern has these small 32 inch models that you can only watch from the space nearest you. My bad. I guess they want to attract a date crowd and married couples. LOL. Credit Cards, but no AMEX. Bummer… Overall, Astoria Tavern is a great all around place to enjoy an adult beverage, conversation with friends, chill solo or enjoy some sports on TV. You are made to feel welcome from the moment you walk in and throughout your visit. Very refreshing. I will definitely be a regular. Cheers…
