Comfort food and a throwback to the 50’s. A great place to relax as this is definitely NOT a fast food spot. Friendly service, good drinks and a quaint informal setting. Enjoy!

This place is classic New England. This converted, old house is dripping with ambiance. The food is not fancy like the building itself, just great comfort food. I have tried many foods here from the scrumptious clam boil to their home style meat loaf. No matter what you try you won’t be disappointed. Oh, also tasty pizza.

I use to frequent the Assonet Inn in the early 90’s until the early 2000’s. I worked in the area and it was very convenient to grab dinner to go or eat in. The pizza was always made with fresh ingredients and homemade dough as well as every other meal offered at this restaurant. The clam cakes and seafood offerings were always cooked perfectly and tasted great as well. The dinners on the menu ranged from liver and onions, baked chicken to fried clams and baked or broiled fish of the day. All were always cooked with fresh ingredients and presented well. I recently went to eat at the Assonet inn this past week and was so very disappointed. There were three of us that ordered dinner. We had pasta with clams that had zero flavor, pasta was over cooked and was spaghetti instead of linguini. The worst part of that meal was the bread offered was a stale piece of sliced white bread not an oven baked warm roll or soft fresh cold roll! We also ordered clam cakes that tasted as if they were deep fried in two year old oil. I had 1 and couldn’t eat the rest. The other meal was a pot roast dinner and can’t even describe how bad it was. This place is a gem but management needs to get a new innovative chef in there to get the clientele they deserve! So confused as to what happened to this 100 yr establishment but it needs to return to where it once was! Sorry.

Went in with my wife, had 2 pizzas and drinks. The pizzas, thin crust, great sauce. Wait staff were wonderful. Just like I remember it from years ago. The couple next to us had the fried chicken, smelled amazing. We will be back again, soon.

The dinner I had was terrible. I asked for the broiled scrod. Big mistake. It was previously frozen, and it tasted just as bland as it looked. It was served with canned peas. Don’t look for any fresh vegetables here. Stick with the fried foods, like linguica and chips. I used to come here with my parents in the 60’s. The place hasn’t changed at all, and it’s a cool old building. The atmosphere is homey and no-frills. Most of the customers are Baby Boomers or older. There are very few young people here. Maybe that’s because the décor and the menu have never been updated. That can be a good thing, if that’s what you prefer. They should get rid of the plastic flowers that bloom around some of the windows and the ladies room. But then again, maybe that’s their idea of «updating»!

Set the way-back machine for WAY-BACK! Cause this place is way back there! But it is also unassuming and quaint. Yes bring cash and plan for plain and simple and also plan to socialize as you wait.
