The staff was friendly so I gave them two stars for that. However, the food was subpar. I ordered a chicken panini and the chicken was tough to chew and lacked flavor. I would advise against getting anything with chicken and stick with deli meat.

I wish I could attach a picture, but it’s gone. I had the antipasto salad, and my wife had the chef salad, and they were both onolicious! Friendly staff, and nice Dead memorabilia for those who are inclined.

Friendly staff. Serving size is huge. We visited Aspen in mid May. Most shops and restaurants were still closed for the season. A big thank you to Grateful Deli for keeping their deli open during the off season. the owner made sure the sandwich was well packed for our hike. We ordered a vegetarian sandwich, it was fresh and did not get soggy even after several hours. We will visit this place again if we are in that area.

My favorite place for lunch in Aspen. Sandwiches are delicious and there are so many to choose from that I never get sick of it.

I wish we had a Grateful Deli in Denver! Their sandwiches have a lot more interesting toppings than your average sub shop(not just ham and cheese, turkey and mayo, etc.). They also have a decent vegetarian selection. I got the Shakedown, and the pesto really made the sandwich. I agree that the bread is too thick for the amount of toppings inside, but it was still tasty and I feel like I got closer to my money’s worth here than other places we thought about stopping in Aspen(tiny to-go salad for $ 10? no thank you!).

Had a ham and Swiss sandwich on a sub roll. Not sure what all the fuss is over their sandwiches. Mine was pretty ordinary. Back home in Los Angeles I probably would give it 2 stars. Too much bread for the amount of fixins inside. Sandwich was definitely good but not great. Don’t like how they just hand you the sandwich in a paper container wrapped in cellophane. No bag and get your own napkins and other accessories. It’s a very small place and they are very busy. I guess that’s why they more or less throw the sandwich at you when it’s ready. Give them a try as they just might be the best in town. You decide.

Grateful Deli is the perfect place to eat lunch as a local in Aspen. The prices are so cheap, and the portions are humungous. First and foremost, the owner is a super nice guy. He is down-to-earth, and he makes you feel super welcome in this tiny little shop. For $ 7.50, you get a sandwich that makes two meals and a punch card for buy 10 get 1 free. I love the Bertha($ 7.50), which is essentially an Italian sub. The meats and cheeses are great quality, and the sandwich is layered perfectly so that you can taste all of the ingredients. My veggie friends love the vegetarian options too. Anyone can eat here and love it. Cards accepted!

After camp and/or sleeping in our van for the past week in CO, my friend and I were looking for a cheaper yet delicious restaurant to dive into while we stopped for a day in Aspen. Our goal: find Aspen’s best kept secret. We found it. Overall both our sandwiches were amazing and huge for how much we spent for them. My friend got a turkey red pepper panini and could hardly finish it, while I got a turkey pesto sandwich and could only eat half even if I wished I could finish it. The bread made both sammies fantastic with how soft filling and fresh yet not overpowering they were. The pesto was fresh and flavorful. Damn just damn. If you’re ever in Aspen, please hit this place up. You won’t be disappointed.

We stopped here for impromptu sandwiches while strolling through Aspen and it was a hit for all four of us. They offer a comprehensive menu with veggie options; every part of my sandwich and salad tasted fresh. The service was quick and friendly, suggestions were easy to get from staff with a mere suggestion. Theres no indoor seating here but there are a few tables outside on the sidewalk if you’re lucky enough to grab one. Price point was great for the location.

Excellent sandwich quick service and a serious vibe mark this place great! Don’t plan to sit in since there are only some tables outside, but do go get a Garcia!

Definitely stop here on the way to the slopes in the winter or before a hike in the warmer weather. Sandwiches are great and big– if you don’t have a huge appetite two can share(half is about the size of a regular one). I would recommend calling in advance during the busy times as it can be a bit of a wait. That way you can grab and go!

The very first place I found on my very first day ever in Aspen. Of the three staff, one person was friendly and sociable, one offered me tips on where to food shop over my stay, and the third quickly made me a roast beef and swiss panini that was a freakin’ miracle. Quick, delicious, semi-affordable. I’ll absolutely be back.

It’s 5 stars for a sandwich shop. Not to be confused with 5 stars for a sit-down, expect-a lot kind of place. I like the vibe, which is true to their love of the Dead and sandwiches made with good ingredients. I never feel like I’ve eaten a food bomb, which I get when eating at Johnny Mcguires. Don’t get me wrong. I love the sandwiches at JM’s too, but some will give you sad tummy if you eat the whole thing. I have been going to GD’s on and off for about ten years now. Consistent.

Fantastic little sandwich shop! They have a huge variety of awesome combinations and have some of the best panini bread I’ve ever had, fresh, crispy, but still soft on the inside. There’s hardly any room inside the store so count on eating outside at their sidewalk tables or taking your food to go. The sandwich portions are GENEROUS for the price, particularly for the area. But don’t worry you’ll want to finish all your food because it’s so delicious. An excellent little find! Make sure to stop by and try a panini. Staff was very friendly.

Well, deli me sideways. For a non-local, this place was hard to find. Rationale: I was on the wrong side of the street. Ah. This place was a «Welcome to Aspen» lunch for my coworker and myself — after a long day of flying in NYC, we were hungry. Once we found the place, we ordered up some food and sat outside. It took a good 15 minutes for our food to come. This begs the question — was the service slow? Is Aspen just slow? Are we just used to the speed NYC? All good questions. Truth: I don’t really know. The food we got was good — there are a lot of special sandwiches, and if I had the time I would be back to try more. Slightly slow, slightly pricey(lunch was $ 14 or so each, but I think that’s just an Aspen thing) but definitely worth a stop in. Not the best deli sandwich i’ve ever had, but I think i’m being unfair with what I am comparing it to. That said, Aspen residents and visitors alike — this is definitely a place to check out.

Yes, probably one of my favorite sandwich shops. Came here before a day on the mountain and I was one happy camper. HUGE sandwiches and relatively fast service. An Aspen Must.

Amazing sandwiches!!! I got the Terrapin and my boyfriend got the Franklin Tower. They were both excellent and actually cheap for the size of them! If you’re shy or not super hungry, sharing is definitely an option. The tiny shop is just about big enough for 4 people to stand in at a time but there are benches outside and a park down the block which is perfect for a fall picnic. Thanks to the Grateful Deli for keepin’ it real in Aspen.
