Honestly, I think Double Edge exists on a different plane than many of the rest of us. I just mean that they see and experience the world and then present it back to you in a way that are new and transformative. If you can get yourself to Ashfield in the summer to take in the play, do, because it is thought providing and unlike anything that you’ll experience from a theatre. First, they are not afraid to take on works that a typical theatre would not touch — ever. I’m talking about the Iliad or Shahrazad(the Arabian knights). When do you ever see these? Next Double Edge embraces the theatre as the theatre. I’m sure that there is a technical name for this, but I’ll call it the«theatre of the place.» The farm that Double Edge is located on is the theatre. So rather than sit in a theatre for two hours, you actually move around and each scene is a different location on the farm. So you might be outside next to a lake or a stream, or inside a renovated barn. I understand that more of this is catching on in places like NYC where high rents are forcing theatres to relocate into old warehouses. Double Edge has done this for years in ways that are very creative and magical. In fact, a friend of mine goes every year and calls this her«yearly dose of magic.» You need to know that the show is rain of shine. If it rains, the show goes on – even the outside scenes. That said, the entire production, the staging, performance, colors, lighting, acting, acrobatics, will leave you richer for attending and pondering the performance for days to come.

How on earth has no one reviewed Double Edge yet??? I have been to the last two summer show cases(The Firebird and the Odyssey) both of which were FANTASTIC! The shows run rain or shine during the summer in the evenings. Both times I’ve gone it’s been a little drizzly, but not too bad. It’s okay to bring an umbrella as long as you don’t block other audience members with it. I really enjoy the fact that the summer showcases use different areas and building on the farm. The shows are very interactive and use some VERY cool tricks. The actors run and jump and climb and swing. I HIGHLY recommend going to see one of the summer showcases
