Small rinkydink sort of bake shop. A quick hot chocolate(made with water and powder) was a bit lame but, the«Scottish shortbread» was new to me and really really good; cheap too. Nice but lack luster service.

I had a brilliant customer service experience when I visited this lovely location, on the 9th of January, 2016. The young man who was around 18 and told me he studied Physical Education online was chatty and friendly and very welcoming, even recognizing my strange accent!(Scottish!) However, as I was leaving, he asked for his share of the tips of the day — the lady he was working with refused to split tips with him — although he was the only one I saw in the store for the first few mins I was in their… So, after careful consideration and once I’d thought about it, this EMT student decided to tip him $ 20. $ 20 well spent. Thank you for your wonderful service young man, I’ll definitely be back in.

After going out of my way to go to this bakery to buy a peanut butter pie, the owner wouldn’t sell it to me because I hadn’t called ahead. Now understand: there was a whole pie in the case and cash in my wallet but the owner Carole said I could not buy it because she was«short on help». There’s stands a paying customer… willing to pay $ 30 for a pie and she refuses the sale. I said it was for my daughters birthday but it made no difference. She was disheveled and rude. My advice for any one looking for delicious confections: don’t risk the downtown traffic and parking because you may get to True Confections and not be allowed to purchase the merchandise. It makes no sense to me. There are many fine eateries in and around Asheville that will welcome your business.

We were out seeing the sights of Asheville. While walking around we came across this great place. We noticed a great many baked goods and the smell of coffee. We were in the mood for coffee and the kids ordered a pastry. All of it was great. The staff that works there were energetic and seemed to enjoy working there.

How have I not reviewed true confections. True confections is an absolute treasure of Asheville confectionary and for some reason it’s an unsung hero. Maybe people don’t flock here because it’s nestled in the Grove Arcade and Asheville residents are wary to consort with out of town visitors? I really have no idea, but I URGE you to support this fantastic local business so that I can continue to sate my need for perfectly prepared iced coffee and lemon bars. Yes. Lemon bars. I love lemon bars, and True Confections makes what may very well be the best I’ve ever had. Of course, it’s not prudent for me to eat lemon bars on a daily basis, no matter how much I want to… so I’m forced to plead to all of you to shower True Confections with your love, admiration, and become loyal customers as well! From what I can tell they make everything in house with love and dedication. Tip top ingredients assembled and prepared with expert skill. This isn’t the type of place to relabel something that they picked up from the Sam’s Club or had delivered from Sysco. This is old world love and devotion to the craft of pastry making. If you’re walking by True Confections at some point in the near future you owe it to yourself and this incredible gem of a local business to stop in for a treat, or two, or four.

We had two ices coffees and a slice of Jewish Apple cake. We asked what made it Jewish. We did not get a real answer except the person that made it was Jewish. It was definitely cake you could kvell about.

Nice little shop but the homemade ice cream sandwiches they advertise aren’t very good. The cookies on it are just ok and the ice cream is more icy then creamy. Disappointed and would’ve rather spent my $ 4 on some nice creamy satisfying ice cream. Wouldn’t visit again.

My wife and I were looking for a little dessert while waiting for the Trolley Tour to pick us up. While roaming through Grove Arcade, we stumbled upon this little establishment. My wife ordered an iced coffee and a homemade Twix bar. She said that the coffee was much better than Dunkin’s, and the Twix bar was inhaled so quickly that I didn’t even get a nibble. I have a hunch that she enjoyed her snack. I ordered a bottle of water and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was so soft that it practically broke apart in my hand. It literally melted in my mouth. Yup, I’m sold. This place is great. I would likely stop here again next time I’m in Asheville.

A pioneer business of the Grove Park Arcade and a respite from the gallery of pretension/inaccessibility which otherwise pervades this section of downtown. I work at both Vanderbilt and Battery Park Apartments, and True Confections is oh-so-conveniently is situated at an isosceles triangle point between the buildings… and they oh-so-conveniently have simple-but-true hummus wraps for the days that I work lunch hours, priced reasonably along with their drinks. They also have the most horrible ginger lime cookies that I would MURDER for if someone were to order the last one in front of me in line(so just be on the safe side and never order one, especially if you are a tourist from Florida). Carole, the owner, is really down to earth and friendly. Also a lovely, quiet place to get a coffee or iced tea and read for a spell. That, is of course, assuming you are not a Floridian tourist, as there is an outside table where I’m fond reading, and I’d consider murdering for that as well.

My boyfriend, baby, and I visited Asheville this past weekend and had the pleasure of meeting Carole. She was so kind and helpful. You could tell she truly enjoys what she does. I tried the homemade Twix and the pink lemonade whoopie pie. They were both delicious. The Twix was a fantastic shortbread cookie topped with caramel and wrapped in chocolate. The whoopie pie was the perfect amount of sweet. I would definitely recommend True Confections and we will for sure be back.

I think the coffee is pretty bad. The quality seems really low. I wish they would switch to counter culture or something. My latest order(iced latte) tastes like the milk is about to go sour. I’ve been a frequent customer purely out of convenience(its close to my work) but I think, I am done trying to force down medium to poor quality coffee. I will be better of travelling a block or two further to get my coffee fix somewhere else.

I like their pie… And peppermint tea for an evening walk. I ordered a slide of blackberry pie to go. I cannot wait to devour that when I get home! :)

While walking through the Grove Arcade my husband and I stopped here for a sweet treat and shared the best bread pudding we have ever had, it was wonderful! It was so good we took a piece of carrot cake and a lime ginger cookie to go for later, both were excellent as well, delish!

I love True Confections! Working downtown there are many times you need to grab something whether it’s an afternoon iced coffee, a morning cappuccino and a slice of kale and caramelized onion quiche, or when you just need that piece of fudge or slice of cake. They have it all and serve it with a smile! It’s one of the places that still makes Asheville Asheville to me. Local, small and freaking delicious.

Great location, great coffee, so-so pastries & baked goods. I would stop here again for a coffee or cappuccino, but the baked goods didn’t blow my mind. I had a breakfast quiche with asparagus, which was good, but not very warm. I also had a blueberry coffee cake slice, which was a bit dry & had ZERO coffee flavor. Plus, the crumbly brown sugar, and supposedly coffee, topping was extremely messy & hard to eat, especially on the go. In fact, I made a mess in the car later trying to eat it while parked. I will say, the cheese biscuit I had was very good, but I hate that you have to microwave it. Is that being too picky? Nah, I think not. I say go for the coffee, but not the baked goods.

Stopped by for a morning coffee on the first of October, 2014. The latte was quite good. The place was clean and comfortable with several business professionals sitting nearby tapping away on their laptops, cellphones pinned to their ears. The girl behind the counter was nice enough. The cakes and scones in the display looked pretty good, so I decided to try the blueberry coffee cake, which was rather large and covered tightly in plastic wrap in the case. When she handed the cake to me, on a plate, it was still wrapped in Saran wrap, which I found quite odd as I had stated I would be eating it there, in the café. So I sat down and unwrapped the cake. First thing I noticed was that there was only one sad little blueberry peeking out from under the sugary layer on top of the cake. Unfortunately, I did not find very many other blueberries in my «blueberry coffee cake.» In fact, there was only the slightest hint of blueberry flavor in the cake. To make matters worse, the cake itself was not moist at all; it was dry and disappointing. It was also too big for one person to eat, unless you intend to become one of those obese Americans we all hear about. If this place were focused on coffee, I could have given it three stars, as the coffee was pretty good. But since it bills itself as a purveyor of cakes and such, I have to say it was a disappointing experience. If you do a simple Google search for«blueberry coffee cake» and check out the images on the web, you will see what a real blueberry coffee cake should look like:

I went to Asheville for a long weekend at the end of May. My mom wanted me to bring her back a fresh baked strawberry rhubarb pie. I called on a Friday to see if I could pick one up on my way home Sunday. I was happy to find out that this was not a problem. My mom is from Eastern Europe where she grew up eating rhubarb pastries regularly. It is hard for us to find such pastries where we live. After taking only one bite of the pie from True Confections, she said it tasted as if her mom made it. She was so happy and talked about it for several days. She was nice enough to share 2 slices with me, and I agree that it was a very delicious pie. The perfect balance of sweet and tart. When I went to pick up the pie, I also ordered a cup of coffee and a ginger lime cookie for myself. The cookie was very flavorful, and the perfect texture. The coffee was really good and they even had an alternative to dairy milk(I believe it was almond milk). I was very pleased. My friends both got a piece of blueberry crumb cake that they enjoyed. One friend got a cheese biscuit that she really liked. I highly recommend this bakery and look forward to going back on my next trip to Asheville.

I had high hopes for this place. It has nice ambience, not the coziest, but the kind of place where you can sit and read or talk at a table for a good while. The guy at the counter was friendly and helpful. So props for that. At an employee’s recommendation I ordered a maple-pecan scone and coffee. The coffee(one free refill if you order«for here,» which is great!) was fantastic. The scone… I couldn’t taste the maple at all. The most distinguishable flavor was the salt. I just wasn’t impressed with it at all. Most everything in the case was wrapped heavily in cellophane, which I’m sure helps it keep better, but it doesn’t look at nice, and I know from experience influences the flavor for the worse. All in all, I don’t think I’ll be back.
