Beautiful interior and a little slice of Indian life in Downtown Asheville. The restaurant features Nepalese and Indian food, very unique combination. Enjoyed the palak paneer, it was very garlicky. Also tried the garlic naan, so wow, more garlic. The service was pretty good, our server was sort of goofy and young but trying hard to make our table happy. He did a good job and kept us entertained. I liked this place but but left a little hungry after two small appetizers and an entrée. Maybe it was the cold weather and I was just starving. This is an nice place to have a traditional Indian meal. Currently if you check in on Unilocal you get a free appetizer too.

I am livid. I just had food delivered to my home and the rice pudding was a container full of liquid. yes, total liquid with a few grains of rice. VERY expensive for what you get… awful. In fact the $ 5. soup I ordered was exactly 4 ounces. The container said 8 ounces… and no nothing leaked out. Who was ladling this food into containers?

Awful awful awful. For a Saturday lunch buffet this place is ridiculously poor, service wise and taste wise. Bland and tasteless food + rude service = ruined lunch. I wouldnt suggest this place to anyone. Stay away.

Is there a 1-star? Most unprofessional place I have been to. They are supposed to close at 9.30 and we got there at 8.50. The door are locked and when we knocked, waiter comes out and says that they have closed early today as they did not get many customers. I mean really? Can you believe it? I don’t think even a small scale restaurant would do that. Not going back again. Stay away!

Being a Nepali, I was expecting good authentic food representing back home when I stepped into the restaurant. But I was very wrong. Me and 9 other friends went in there to try some momos(Nepali dumplings) on a Saturday afternoon. But they didn’t have any chicken or pork momos. They only had spinach, lamb and bison momos($ 14 – 18). So we went to look at the buffet line to see what they had to offer. There was not much variety there and we were not impressed at all by the offerings. So we thought let’s give them a try. But we were very wrong. Most of us only managed to eat 1 plate each from the buffet– the food was that bad for us. At the end, some of us had the audacity to try their dessert(gajar halwa). Dang, that was the worst gajar halwa I had ever eaten. Most of us were extremely extremely disappointed by the food, so we paid our bills and left. Some of us had to eat chocolates from the local chocolate store to wash our mouths from the restaurant’s food taste. That evening is when the fun began. 4 – 5 of us had diarhhea that evening. WOW! I will never be back to eat buffet there again. This experience sounds/looks like the absolute worst nightmare that you could have dining at a restaurant, but it is all true. Considering the bad food experience, I would have given just 1 star, but being a nice Nepali, I am adding 1 more star.

We had to eat off the buffet which was twice as expensive. While we were told the kitchen was closed, they continued to serve others. Very upsetting. Couldn’t use the coupon for the free appetizer!

After bar stop # 3… time for some food. Himalayan cuisine? We have a lot of stuff in CA… but Himalayan? Tell me the last Himalayan spot u went to? I’ll wait… Exactly. This was new and familiar to me at the same time. Nepalese, Tibetan and Indian flavors well represented here. Tikkas, naan, Dal, momo, curries, etc This place is simply beautiful. Great South Asian artwork, statues, intricate artisan rugs and copper cups for water, nice seating areas and centerpieces. The beautiful Lovely Lady had Mugh Shahi chicken korma. fuuuk. I think this is a step above tikka masala, vindaloo, karahi or palak. This dish — creamy, yogurty, butter, mild spices… Per-muthafuking-fect. After tasting a bit of her dish. I was immediately disappointed in my choice. My lamb. the Bheda poleko– diced lamb stir fried with veggies looked like the jalfrezi at my Indian place back home. But this was a bit dry and lacking in spice. The veggies were crisp and good… but I don’t go to a restaurants for sauteed veggies… Can do it at home. Our server Douglas was great even tho they were abt to copper water cups.I.Want.These…STAT.Yep, I said it twice Thats how much i want them. Fukin nice. Anyway– The in house sitar player had finished up for the we missed that. Maybe next time we’ll get to hear his skills.

Came here… The food was stale. The chicken was clearly spoilt. The kheer(pudding) was hopeless. There was no dish that was good. Would never visit again!

The place is gorgeous. I would suggest going there just to enjoy the environment. The food is decent but the problem is it’s location. You can not be in asheville and have decent food. Asheville rocks when it comes to food. They just need to up their game just a tab but and it’ll be fine. My judgement is limited on few items but do try it.

Had a delicious dinner here tonight. My favorite part of the entire experience thought was the physical atmosphere of the restaurant. It is absolutely gorgeous. After walking past the restaurant hundreds of times over the past few years, when I walked in this evening, I was blown away by the beauty. The food was pretty stinkin good too. My friend and I got the appetizer sampler platter(thank you Unilocal check-in gift) which included Aloo Tiki, Vegetable Pakoras, and some lentil patty that I can not remember the name. These were all pretty tasty, but the dipping sauces were the star here. For entrees, we stuck with Indian dishes, splitting the Tikka Masala and Lamb Sag. Both were pretty yummy. We agreed that the sweet, classic flavor of the Masala was best but the texture of the Sag was super nice. We ordered Roti(whole wheat naan) and I was happy to see that rather than the typical $ 4 – 5 naan at most restaurants, it was only $ 1.99. I was not totally blown away by either of these meals but left totally satisfied(hence the 4 stars rather than 5). I will be back for sure, though next time I would like to try something Nepalese or Himalayan.

Nope. This place totally misses the mark. As other reviewers suggest, the service is atrocious and the food is mediocre at best. They gave my vegetarian friend a lamb dish and five minutes later they came out in a panic because they had realized their error. Luckily, she hadn’t eaten it yet(because not everyone had gotten their food yet), but are you kidding me – what if she had?! Their excuse was«well it’s hard to tell sometimes.» Completely unacceptable. I ordered their«signature» eggplant dish and found myself eating a totally flavorless dinner. And don’t even consider getting naan or roti – you can truly find better at your local walmart. In addition, they start charging 18% gratuity with parties of 5. Overall: horrible service, and uninspired and unflavored food.

We have had 2 good meals here, but this time they dropped the ball. Service was awful, completely lackadaisical waiter, had to ask for water multiple times, he messed up the order, had to ask for the bill to be corrected after we were charged for food we never received. And the food… SO bland. Usually this cuisine is highly spiced and seasoned. I’m not sure what’s going on here but all of the dishes were barely hot, and had little to no flavor. Lamb dish was practically all fat and grizzle. It was clear that All of the vegetables in the dishes were from a frozen bagged mix. (Crinkle cut carrots) total mush. Will never return.

3 stars for the food, but I’m giving them 2 for the service and overall experience. There was a 74% sanitation rating right at the front door that was kind of a put-off, but I convinced my wife that the Unilocal reviews indicated it was worth it. From there, things did not improve much. The young waiter was either inexperienced, unorganized, or overwhelmed, and clearly working more tables than he had the skill to navigate. He brought our drinks(wife’s ginger lemonade was good, but my chai was barely lukewarm when it finally arrived). We were then sitting for quite a while longer without taking our orders while we watched him try to handle nearly all the other tables by himself. We got more attention from the host, who had come by to refill our water twice. By the time the waiter came back to our table, I was minutes away from walking out. He took our order, which included a free appetizer from checking in on Unilocal, and disappeared. In a reasonable amount of time, another man brought the food out and it was good. We enjoyed the lamb dish, which ironically the waiter had recommended on his first pass, and an eggplant dish we found as a vegetarian option. We saw our waiter again when he brought the check, and we had been charged for the«free» appetizer. Rather than wait another indeterminate amount of time for the waiter to come by and ask for a correction, I approached him at the counter to ask him about it. He did not say a word to me, but instead tore off for the kitchen instead. At this point I was done. I paid the bill and we left. I would consider coming back to try the food again, but not if this kid is working.

We were a tad discouraged by their 74% sanitation rating displayed in the lobby… but gave it a try anyway! We were glad we did! We both had the cauli curry(cauliflower and potato curry) served with basmati rice– delicious. We also had an order of garlic naan bread– and we highly recommend it! We came in on a Tuesday, so they were not busy, which was a plus. Our server was attentive and friendly– we would definitely come again!

We had two great entrees — But the best part of the meal were two sides. The Poppadoms were the best we’ve ever had — and we’ve eaten Indian food all over the world. They were tasty without without the sauce and so very tender that they literally melted on our mouths. Their signature dish, the Banta Tarkari, an eggplant dish that was seasoned to absolute perfection. It will be the entrée next time.

We had dinner here tonight(Sun, 2.22.15). I want to clarify my rating. I would give the food 5 stars, but the service I would give 2 stars. Our server acted like he got high before trying to wait on our table. It was not busy, but he could not get it together. We both ran out of drink, he had our check incorrect, we sat at our table when seated for a very long time before we ever got service, etc. Very unfortunate because the food was quite good. I’ll post pics of the food.

Worried about the forecasted snow on Thursday so we decided to have our Thanksgiving feast a few days early. Our financial adviser in Fairview suggested Kathmandu and gave it rave reviews. We trust him with our money so I figured we would trust him with his food recommendation. So Glad we did. Wonderful atmosphere(high marks from me when an ethnic restaurant plays quiet accompanying ethnic music in the background). Michelle, our waitperson, was helpful and attentive. Food was best of all Indian type fare in Asheville.
