Huddle House has long been an alternative to the Waffle House hegemony in the southern United States. Founded within a decade of their competitor and in the same state(GA), Huddle House offers over 400 locations across the South. In NC, most locations I have visited are located on or near major highways and interstates. The Hendersonville Rd location in Asheville was perfectly situated to offer a reprieve during a recent trip from Greensboro NC to Nashville TN. Brittany A. and I stopped in initially to grab coffee and get energized for the remainder of our trip, but decided to order off their menu as well. Upon entering the fast casual concept, I noticed that it has one of the nicest interiors of the chain we’ve encountered. This location is about as «upmarket» as you can get, with upholstery in the booths, wood chairs, and very clean restrooms. I ordered standard breakfast fare, a plate with two scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and wheat toast. While waiting on the food, our server was very attentive and refilled our coffee several times. What struck me most during our visit, is that the manager on duty walked out and began conversing with each table casually as if he knew each patron. The food itself is exactly what you would expect from a diner of this caliber, and was prepared well without fault. The eggs were fluffy and not runny, while the hashbrowns managed to not create a grease lake on the bottom of the plate that I often find at similar diners. The total bill was about $ 14 before tip, which is hard to beat for lunch, especially right down the road from Biltmore. If you are looking for a solid southern style diner, this one does not disappoint.

Food was hot, fresh, and out quick. Server was awesome! Staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. Didn’t get the cooks name but he did a great job preparing our food and he even got my hash browns just the way that I like them. Jodi was our waitress, wish more servers were like her. Very accommodating, sweet and professional. We’ll stop in again to see their smiling faces and grab a quick meal! Thanks guys ;)

Think Waffle house or IHOP, just change the name, but the food is the same.

I’ve been to a lot of breakfast places, yet this one by far stands out head and shoulders above the rest. I cannot recall a place that takes such pride in providing excellent customer service and quality food. I felt welcome the moment that I entered the door from the manager, waitress and cook. The cook gave me extra food for some reason with my French toast(6 slices as opposed to 4) and loaded up my meatlover’s omelet with what I liked in terms of vegetables. I walked into the Huddle House with an appetite, and left feeling as stuffed as a Thanksgiving turkey. If there is one criticism that I have, its in the parking situation. Very tricky in making the left turn off of the road into the lot due to customers parking on the far left end of the lot. Due to the sharp angles, it makes navigating the parking lot slightly difficult. If possible, park on the far right side of the lot closest to the grass. It seems to be a lot easier. Otherwise, you are risking someone not looking where they are backing out onto the road and bumping you. Overall, this Huddle House location is truly incredible. Once back in Asheville, I am certain to return.

Look, it is what it is… I love this place for the fast, cheap, and tasty big-ass American breakfast; it serves a purpose for me. Ambience? No. Fast, friendly service and a reasonably priced breakfast? Yes. On a morning where I don’t have time to enjoy a good Early Girl breakfast downtown(and don’t want to deal with crowds and parking), I truly like the Huddle House at exit 50. I’ve never left hungry or broke.
