Came here for Burger Monday: $ 6 + the cost of a drink(non-alcoholic is okay) gets you a double cheeseburger with grilled onions, pickles, and American cheese, plus a serving of hand cut fries. It’s only available after 9pm for $ 12 the rest of the week. Get a reservation if you want to come on Monday.(And if you come between 5 and 6, you can get discounts on seafood for their seafood happy hour.) The burger itself is made with shank, chuck, and brisket. The burger was tender and perfectly cooked. I am someone who prefers my beef on the rare side, but less so with burgers, because a rare burger tends to get goopy fast. This one wasn’t overcooked or undercooked. However, it was quite greasy, and the bun sopped it all up, making it quite messy to eat and taking away from the flavor and texture of the bun. The fries were fantastic. For an appetizer, my companion and I shared an order of the hush puppies. For $ 5 you get 5 sizeable, sweet hush pups with maple butter. These would have been perfect, in my opinion, if not for a strange spice that hit you in the center of the dough. It would have been better placed in a savorier hush puppy; this one was quite sweet, with powdered sugar on top. The spice was offputting enough for me to hesitate before ordering it again. I would order it again with a large party to share them with. My cocktail was incredible, and so was my companion’s hot buttered rum, which tasted like what I imagine adult butterbeer to taste like in Harry Potter! Our service was impeccable. It took awhile to get our burgers, but there wasn’t an empty seat in the house, and the atmosphere was enjoyable enough to not mind the waiting. For $ 6, the burger and fries were a steal. Would I pay $ 12 for it? No, but there’s probably not a burger in the world I’d throw $ 12 at without hesitation. The rest of the menu was very… interesting, to say the least. I’m not sure I would go back on any other day of the week simply because I’m wary of dropping the cash on some of those inventive plates. I would recommend this place to an openminded diner, or someone who wants to try a damn good burger. I’m not sure if it’s The Best in Asheville, but it’s definitely up there.

Just had a most amazing meal at this place. You know the food is really something when repeatedly throughout dinner you find multiple best-ever dishes of simple everyday dishes. Three such examples… hush puppies, bread and butter and a garden salad. I know, ordering hush puppies and bread is a bit much but I am so glad I did not listen to nutritional logic. As soon as I saw they had a lobster roll, I immediately had to have it. It was a bit expensive for the size, but well worth it. It was as though they picked out all the tastiest, most tender claw meat and very lightly dressed it which resulted in a most satisfying plate of food. I mean lobster was literally falling out of the bread! The service also could not have been any better! Our waitress was attentive, sweet and knowledgable. As tourists, it was a bit hard for us to find, as the directions on google pointed us to the back of the building, but the entrance is actually on the side facing the river. We will definitely be making a return trip here next time we are in town. Gotta get my lobster roll and carb fix!

Excellent oysters. Best I’ve had in Asheville, and comparable to the best I’ve had anywhere(SF, Marin, Seattle, etc). They always have a wide selection of flavors and sourced locations, which allows us to pick the flavor profile we enjoy most. Also fantastic cocktails; very well crafted, and precise. A few of the other dishes we’ve had are delicious and rich, with exquisite flavors and decadence.

I’ve already said in a review that I think the Bull & Beggar cheeseburger is the best burger in Asheville. But after my third or fourth visit on «Burger Monday» when a double-patty, three cuts of beef, fresh ground burger and hand-cut fries is only $ 6, I’m tempted to say that Asheville’s Platonic meal is a Bull & Beggar cheeseburger with fries and a Wicked Weed Pernicious IPA($ 5). For $ 11 plus tax and tip, you get a great meal in a hip(though loud) setting. It’s Platonic, baby! And you even get a sample of the fried pork rind with your burger.

We were recommended to check out Bull and Beggar by a service staff in the city it did not disappoint. The restaurant was located near the train track in a re-purposed warehouse and the high ceiling open brick walls were a nice touch. We had an excellent serve, he explained how the name came about and planned out our courses of small plates. The food was well executed, had great flavors and very tasty! We were impressed by the quality of food in Ashville. The only thing was the restaurant got really smokey. Highly recommended for great food.

This place continues to amaze me. Their hush puppies are the best I’ve ever had and a must as an appetizer. They have entrees and when we go we always do the small-plates which are great to share. The rabbit is excellent. Tartiflette, sort of a gratin pot pie, was amazing. Smoked ham with cheese and potatoes. Wine list is enormous and they have a handful of beers as well. We always put our name on the list and if there is a long wait we go over to the Wedge for a pint.

A romance of savory seafood with robust beef, the Bull and the Beggar is for no fool’s heart. Sit at the bar and enjoy. conversation with Palmer, the bar manager. He’ll walk you through a journey of drinks by his making and others as well as provide you with suggestions from a complexly savory but more than lovely palatable menu. From their local to cross-the-coast oysters to their hush puppies that make you feel like you’re getting away with something; the Bull and the Beggar should be on every out of town foodies’ list.

Wow! Bull and Beggar could be one of my favorite restaurants in Asheville. Located in the River Arts District so we took a cab, being a holiday weekend and having never been to the restaurant. Upon arrival, we loved the unique area, under the bridge, next to Wedge Brewery! We had reservations at 7:00 and were greeted by a friendly hostess who took us upstairs. Upon being seated we admired the unique lighting and restaurant environment, brick walls, very electric with a trendy vibe! The cocktail list offers some great options, with unique mixings, which we loved. After checking out the oyster board we started with some oysters and peel and eat shrimp. Both amazing! The oysters were SO fresh! And, the peel and eat shrimp came covered in a Cajun flavoring with cocktail sauce and horseradish. We also ordered some local bread with butter, which was so fresh and an added bonus to help with the Cajun heat from the shrimp. As for entrees, we ordered the lobster roll and octopus. Some of the best grilled octopus I have ever had. The homemade chips with the lobster roll were great too. Overall, Bull and Beggar offers a great atmosphere, amazing drinks, friendly service and unique food options. I will definitely be back!

Sooo disappointed. My beau and I stopped in on a Monday night. We had heard about the $ 6 burgers & read the phenomenal reviews on Unilocal! When we arrived the couple in front of us were blocking the host desk. They had already«checked-in» and it was odd that the host didn’t ask them to kindly move aside. When we finally spoke to him, before even asking our names or if we had a reservation, he said they were not taking any more guests(this was at 6pm) but we COULD sit at the bar. but that that was a 45 minute wait. Needles to say it wasn’t a very warm welcome and we found it very strange. The restaurant was half full and had several open tables. I guess these reservations take priority so definitely make one if you’d like to be acknowledged as worthy for their $ 6 burgers.

Hands down one of my favorite places in Asheville since starting work here in June 2015. The food, atmosphere, and staff were all excellent. The staff were particularly attentive and did an excellent job presenting and making suggestions based on our vague likes and always described the food in ways that we could definitively decide wether we would like it or not. I had the filet mignon with marrow along with the potatoes au gratin equivalent and an additional side of roasted cauliflower. The food was divine. From my friends I sampled the Octopus, seasonal pumpkin dish, the lobster roll, and the hush puppies. Even my dessert, the tart tatine was excellent and a perfect end with my cappuccino. Everyone I was with could not stop discussing how excellent everything was. Really, really. The only grievances I could note was my app of the peel & eat shrimp, one of the shrimp was slightly frozen, probably from being in a prep fridge, whereas I am used to being served them from a fresh boil of old bay and still slightly warm. My personal preference as I know most like them cold. Also my friend who went with the chocolate caramel tart for dessert had a very difficult time cutting into it because of the crust and did end up with caramel attached firmly behind their front teeth that had to eventually dissolve. Again, thus far one of my favorite places here. Have yet to try Curate but have tried Nightbell, Table, and Lex 18 as all had been suggested to me. Now that I’m almost positive I’m extending my contract for work I’m definitely making a return trip here.

We found this place by a recommendation from a chef at another Asheville restaurant and it exceeded our expectations and the service was excellent. Monday night it «Burger Night» and the $ 12 burgers are half off all night with the order of a drink. If this place cooks their burgers as well as they do the rest of the food, you will not be disappointed. It was the best burger I’ve ever eaten! And the fries were excellent too. For dessert, we shared the apple tart with nutmeg ice cream and were equally impressed. Tip! Parking is at the restaurant but GPS won’t get you there well. The lot entrance in near the railroad tracks and the restaurant faces the river and is a few doors down from Wedge Brewery.

W T F!!! Went in for the Monday burger special @ 6:15pm. Went to the host station & asked for a table for 2. Was met with a quick up & down stare & told that the restaurant was booked up till 8:40& that there was a 1hr30 min wait to sit @ the bar !!! Excuse me! A wait to sit @ the bar. Obviously my jeans weren’t skinny enough & I wasn’t wearing a beanie or a plad flannel. My date had on jeans & a hoodie. Now mind you. THERESTAURANTWASEMPTY !!! Our plan was to then have a drink & chill. Then we saw the burger. WTF. UNMELTEDCHEESEON A PREFORMEDPATTYWITHUNTOASTEDBUN. DOUBLEWTF!!! I hope the too cool for anyone hipster(drew one of the owners) that was working the host stand doesn’t go blind from to much hair product. Pretentious crap heads. Never again. Bummer cause the octopus is really, REALLY good.

This was a quick after dinner coffee in the eclectic River Arts area. Craft beers picnic tables, dogs… no stress We walked into Bull and Beggar just wanting to enjoy a coffee outside. Drew made a few suggestions and we opted for the standard Americano. When Drew came outside to deliver the coffee, I decided to inquire about his favorite dessert. Chocolate caramel tart with buttercream sea salt ice cream. Sounds like a winner… and it was amazing. We sat outside for a while people watching and train watching. A very long train passed as we sat. We also had some quality time with«squirrel», the neighboring artists cat. Apparently«squirrel» is a true center piece here. Everyone that came up the stairs said hello to «squirrel». This is a definite come to evening spot if your in Asheville.

Consistency. Perfectly consistent every time. The price you pay is worth the food and service. My lady and I always sit at the bar of any restaurant we go to and The Bull is no different, so you’ll have to take my review of service from the same guy who always serves us, Palmer. This guy is cool and knows mixology. He’s a true artist. He manages the bar with expert precision and keeps the drinks of a fully seated bar nicely maintained while also preparing drinks for the entire seated area of the restaurant.(Most often times full). The food here is just amazing. Every dish we have ever ordered leaves us wanting to know more of what we didn’t order so we keep coming back. If you’re visiting Asheville, then you should do a days worth of Art strolling in the River Arts District, wrap up around 4, head to the Wedge for a pint of local beer and then head next door to the Bull and Beggar for a well deserved dinner. Enjoy!

The dude seating people first confused us with a riddle of a question about sitting at a table or the bar … Then challenged us to be done in 45 mins. Demanding we give the table back by then. This really detracted from what would have been an Excelant dinning experience. The other major sin was serving food before the drinks had been served. I think this had to do with me ordering a non-alcoholic beverage as I watched several other tables receive their drinks ahead of us even thou they ordered after us. Maybe I offended the vibe of the place, but remember we were asked to hurry before being seated. The hush puppy’s made a great starter even though I ordered them as a side. The shame of the whole experience was that the filet mignon was possibly the best piece of meat I have ever had. My wife’s fish was delicious. The restaurant had plenty of room in it; we didn’t need to be rushed or riddled.

I’ve been to TBAB a few times and every time I go I always tell myself I need to return sooner rather than later. The food is always always ALWAYS well-thought-out and expertly prepared. The ingredients taste fresh and the presentation is appealing and there’s always something unique to give you pause and realize how much thought goes into what they do here. On this occasion we decided to stay at the bar instead of segueing to the dining area, even though we had a reservation, because we fell in love with our bartender, Palmer. He asked questions to help steer our drink choices in the right direction, then worked his magic and whipped up the perfect libations. He steered me toward a great Pinot Noir, too. We were heading over to Magnetic Theater for a show so tonight was just apps — but what apps they were. We had the charred octopus, the lobster roll, and the yellowfin tartare. All great choices, all worth having again. In fact, I could eat a plate of the lobster rolls. But then I’ve never had anything here I didn’t love. The charcuterie plate and the made-to-order madeleines for dessert are just a couple of the memorable items I’ve tried in past visits. The Bull and Beggar is one of the best restaurants in Asheville. Period.

The Bull and Beggar makes me want to curse and weep at the same time, but in a good way. My experience was very positive and almost left me speechless, until today. I savored every moment and focused on the astounding mix of the simple and complex dishes that were set before me. First plate: Fresh radishes with their greens served with Roquefort Butter and Seasoned salt — so simple and so good — the Roquefort Butter was especially good intermingled with the radish greens which have a peppery taste somewhere in between arugula and watercress. Second Plate: ¼ Pound Peel and Eat Shrimp — beautiful, enormous shrimp presented au natural with their whiskers making a bold and elegant statement — I love that they presented them this way — so you can see just how spectacularly regal they look! Here, the nice surprise was that the spiciness was in the shrimp, imparted by the«boil» and not the sauces, even though it was served with light, fluffy fresh grated horseradish and an exquisite cocktail chutney. Third Plate: Lamb Roulette cooked with Moroccan spices — THE best lamb I’ve ever eaten — so tender — the spice blend had everything from clove and cinnamon to the perfect amount of heat from chili — add golden raisins and some provocative wispy greens strutting on the plate — Even the garnish here is meant to be eaten and is a part of the dish! The Burial Scythe Rye Pale Ale, fresh and local, turned out to be the perfect needle that threaded these three courses together and even helped make them sing. Sometimes as a solo diner, staff can make you feel a little intimidated or less important than a group. There was none of that here. My waitress was nothing short of incredible. Attentive and complementary without being intrusive. Nothing negative to say about this place. I felt like a king!

Lots to love here. We did a big mix of apps, bigger than we should have actually. We started with the salmon rillette(very good), then had the lobster roll(good, not great), the steak tartare(excellent), the cauliflower(more please), and the charcuterie plate. The star of that show was the rabbit rillette, why isn’t everyone doing this? It’s FABULOUS. We also loved the pork pâté, were sort of meh on the meat loaf. For drinks I had a bangin’ Sidecar, really well done. Not a huge beer list for the hubs, but he found a good IPA that he liked. It’s more a cocktail/whiskey kind of joint, but I’m good with that. We waddled out of there stuffed and happy, good find.
