Soooo happy I’ve found another restaurant to visit in Artesia! This food was so amazing. We had the hugeeeee dosa and the bhatura(so puffy and delish). The curries were extremely flavorful(the eggplant is a must!), and the food came out very quickly. I was so stuffed by the time I was done eating! Will be back here soon.

One of the better indian places we have been to, in Artesia. The south indian thali was so good, especially the beet preperation. The roti(flour tortilla) was nice and soft too, and kinda close to how its made at home. The onion rava masala dosa was surprisingly less oily than it usually is, at other places. The chutney that came along with it, was tasty. The sambar was okay. It could have more veggies and drumsticks in it. Had the mysore filter coffee at the end, which was good too. Good quick service. This place has renewed my faith in indian restaurants serving good food, in the states.

Great, attentive service. Food tastes very fresh. Ordered the thali special, mutter paneer which comes with rice etc, and a sweet lassi. Bill came to be about $ 30. Not cheap, a bit on the pricy side because I could get a full on buffet with meat, tandoori chicken at that price. It’s good, but may not return.

I have been here a couple times now and one thing I can swear by is their South Indian Thali. Every time I have had it, it feels like heaven in my mouth! I love how authentic their south Indian items within the Thali are(like the sambar, poriyal, etc) and how tasty all the subjis/curries are. This place is called Udupi Palace for a reason so do know that there is some sugar added to the above items(very negligible amount and doesn’t ruin the taste). The payasam(dessert) in the Thali is just brilliant. From the other items I have had from their menu(pretty much everything else apart from the Thali), there was one specific time when their dosa and chutney tasted stale and old. But every other time has been exceptional so I am fine with that isolated experience.

We ordered food for To go for 10 people. The order was big but still the time to make the food was 20 mins which is good. We ordered masala dosas idli medhu vada kancheepuram idli. Chutney was okay. Sambhar was good.

Positively delicious and the staff were very helpful in finding us some dairy free options. All of the dosas are the perfect blend of savory, crunchy, filling and a great vessel for the side dishes that come along with it(I always ask for an extra mint chutney). A new favorite that emerged this trip was the eggplant curry entrée. I wish I can remember the name but it will be added to my «must have» list. This place is great for vegans or vegetarians! I’ve brought my meat loving friends and even our meat & potatoes guy friends leave stuffed and satisfied. There is parking behind the place or street parking but be warned it is patrolled 10 or 11 am-8pm, so expect to pay a few bucks for parking on the street.

Had been here with few of my friends and was super excited to have South Indian food after a loooong time! We ordered rasa vadas and masala dosas but both the items failed to bring out the authentic taste the sambhar was a bit too sour for our taste Nd the dosas were sadly soft instead of being crispy! Finally we ordered tea and coffee which were equally bad. I would not visit this place again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone too.

The worst food I ever had. No taste and differences between sambar, korma and anything

The food is amazing here but the service leaves a lot to be desired. We were recommended this place by a family friend so my parents, grandpa, and I decided to try it! They got the masala dosa, my mom got a curried eggplant dish, and I had the vegetable curry which came with rice, chapati, and a crispy bread. Super flavorful, and big generous portions. The eggplant was extremely spicy! I have to dock on service because of how finicky and inflexible the owners were on orders. My mom wanted to change her order maybe 30 seconds after she placed her order but the waiter refused to let her do so, claiming that the order had already been sent to the kitchen. My dad can handle no spice so he was recommended the masala dosa. I get that Indian food had spices but when he came across a giant red chili in his food the waitstaff kept saying that the food wasn’t spicy and that he should be able to handle it. It’s one thing to be straightforward about the food but to tell the customers what they should and shouldn’t handle is not professional. I’d come back here for the food but wouldn’t necessarily expect too great service.

There are a lot of very good restaurants in the Little India section of Pioneer Blvd. Some are better with certain dishes than others but virtually all of them are good at what they do. The thing about the restaurants in this area is the fact that many of them, particularly for lunch, offer an AYCE buffet. Some people like this, me not so much. I have had one too many experiences where I see people touching the food with their hands and then not putting it on their plate or biting into dropped rings and things like that once I have brought the food to my table. But, that’s just me… :-) One of the main things that brings me to Udupi is that they serve menu ordered food, day or night. No buffet. In terms of atmosphere, this restaurant is your standard casual Pioneer Blvd. India food restaurant. The staff here is very efficient and they take care of their customers. Mostly, the food here is very good. It may take a few visits for you to decide what you like best but all of the dishes are well prepared and tasty. One thing that you will notice about Udupi is that if you are walking along Pioneer Blvd. looking for a place to eat, many of the restaurants will have few or no customers. This is not the case with Udupi. There is always someone here. Quite often the customers are those of East Indian descent. This tells you how much this restaurant is respected among the community. Overall, nice place to eat if you want a quick and casual dining expereince.

I have been to this place couple of times now and the food is always very good. It has an authentic south Indian flavor and the signature«Udupi» style to it. I remember the first time we got poori bhaji and my wife got a masala dosa. The food always comes to table quickly. fresh and hot from the kitchen. They have delicious madras filter coffee. Being a picky coffee drinker I can spot a fake filter coffee and this stuff is awesome. just like home made or the stuff you get if you travel to southern states of India and go to an «authentic» place. The dosas are crisp, light and delicious… the sambar and chutneys are always fresh and delicious… Today I ordered the vegetable korma with chapati and my friend got puri and coconut rice. The korma had a yogurt base with a LOT of vegetables and the signature southern flavor with hing. its very common for restaurants to skimp on vegetables but not this one… the chapati were very light and soft and you can tell they are pure whole wheat flour… The coconut rice when it arrived we thought would be loosely packed but this was a tightly packed a LOT… it had a lot of tempering dals along with curry leaves and a ton of fresh grated and dry coconut… I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of it… I make an awesome coconut rice and if I tell you coconut rice tasted good at a place… TRUSTME… We ate our hearts out and walked out super satisfied and super full… if you want an authentic south indian meal… go here… Oh…if you go during peak lunch hour prepare to wait for awhile since they get crazy busy…

The best Indian food I’ve had in LA. It’s far from me but worth the time. The thali plate is amazing. The only I’ve had here I didn’t care for was the channa Marsala I think. But for the most part, everything is great. I’ve tried many other Indian restaurants in LA, this is the only one I’ve had with real flavor that pops.

We have been here a total of 2 times. The 2nd time we came here it was very very busy. But we were seated. The wait staff… well at any indian restaurant they are always blunt and borderline rude. I feel like that is a standard but I guess if you go into this experience expecting that then you may proceed to eat. I ordered the Thali and also got the masala dosa I shared with someone. It’s such a great value and all the food is vegetarian, so good for my wife. When we are craving dosas this is the place to go, and also eating there is the best so it’s nice fresh. We have tried to do to-go orders where but the dosas are crispy anymore.

Growing up one of the complaints I had is that we would eat Indian food and then go out and eat Indian food. However, South Indian good was always a treat(dosas are hard to make!). A good south indian place is a real gem, and I think that this place is a very good place. Their dosas are very good, their service is very good, and I’ve been here a number of times and enjoyed eating here. I will probably continue to go back.

Udupi is our favorite vegan Indian restaurant. The staff is always friendly and attentitive. All their dosa are off the hook. Our favorite is the butter masala dosa. Pancake style crêpe with potatoes inside. Comes with a side of samba soup and chutney dip, soooo delicious! To sample a little bit of a few things. I recommend getting their south Indian thali. mixture of a bunch of currys, soups, and veggies.

Service was quick and Ambiance is fine(better than most of the India restaurant in the area).

I am from bangalore and have eaten South Indian all my life and cook every dish I ordered to a degree of expertise. On our south cal trip, my parents were craving South Indian and we ordered a bunch of dishes which we consider a safe bet. Guess we r too spoiled by the quality of South Indian in Bay Area n Seattle that we found all the food we ordered sub par. –idli– average good sambhar but the dough seemed old — rava dosa– simply perfect — rasa vada– wish I could give minus stars for this dish. The vada was chunky and was weird tasting –thali– half the dishes were inedible, the chapathi, Portiyal n sambhar was not done authentically –avial– tasted more like saagu and nothing like avial. The chapathi was inedible and the rice portion just sat there as avial couldn’t b paired with it. Total bill was $ 47 and everything seemed reasonably priced but for the quality I don’t think I care much about the price. The service as other reviews have mentioned is lack lustre. Since the rava dosa was spectacular I am willing to believe the chef had an off day but may not come back here as a first option. If these guys were to compete with dasprakash in Santa Clara or Dakshin in Seattle they would learn a thing or 2 abt flavor n consistency

Ha! I was so hungry after going to the gym and then doing laundry without getting anything to eat in between I was ready to eat whatever I could find nearby. Good thing I remembered Felix S’ recommendation for good Indian thali. Parking along Pioneer in Little India is always a challenge. They recently added those parking meters so that helps. It’s $ 1.50/hr, max of 3 hours per car. That’s better than me having to circle around looking for a spot in their back lot. Going in I was greeted and directed to a table in the middle of the restaurant. Not wanting to be the first thing people see when they walk in, I asked for a table by the wall. Wasn’t really too excited to be seated in the middle when I’m dining on my own. Most of the diners were families and/or business people. I felt so under dressed in my T-shirt and shorts ensemble but you have to remember that I went there right after doing laundry. No time to change. And I really like wearing t-shirts and shorts. Southern Thali(5 stars) — this is a steal for $ 9.50 esp when it comes with a big cup of rice, a naan, a tostada looking thing(aka papadum — thanks Rohlin), and a whole variety of vegetarian dishes that is more than enough for 2 people. I love the spicy dishes; the ones that looked like they’re made with tomato base. So spicy my mouth waters just thinking about it. I also liked the yellow sweet dish they had in the middle. I liked everything; let’s put it that way. Samosa(5 stars) — $ 5 for 2 pieces with 2 dipping sauces. I like to mix the spicy green sauce with the tamarind(sweet) one. One is enough for a person. It’s so heavy but so good. Next time I go I’ll get their dosa. Now I’m hungry.
