Chunky goes to Chung King for some *expletive* good Sichuan food!
After a killer line dancing session, lunch became priority #1. Having not been here before, the time was ripe to smell what Chung King is cooking.
Wow! Lot’s of lunch specials available, which includes white rice & soup
Beef & broccoli
Tender cuts of beef with crunchy crowns of broccoli. A safe bet for those looking not to vary far from the beaten path, the beef & broccoli was tasty & nutritious. I’m partial to the beef & broccoli at Hsiang Yuen, which has a sweetness to it, but Chung King’s version didn’t disappoint. A good portion for lunch!
Spicy braised pig’s intestines & blood curd in pot
Yes! Anyone that knows me, knows that the more common cuts of meat bore the pants off of me. Chicken breast? Bleh. New York steak? Whatevs. Gimme lamb! Gimme goat! Gimme tongue! Gimme bugs! And, gimme offal! An awful lot of offal! BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Soft squares of tofu, bell peppers & cilantro in a blood sauce with juicy cuts of braised pig intestine. Now, you know you’re eating the poop shoot of the pig when you dig into this dish. In a good way, though! Intestine has texture to it, but the braising tenderized it perfectly. The dish came in a large bowl which I demolished like the offal-​loving son a gun that I am. Hot & spicy… but enough about me ;p
If you like chitlins, then order this baby.
Service was great! The lady attending to us didn’t know much English, like as in almost no English, but she was friendly & took great care of us, starting with complimentary tea. Packing up our leftovers, she gave us a full container of white rice to take home. Nice touch, madame!
There are 2 round tables for larger parties in the middle of the restaurant, with 4-​person tables around the perimeter. Chung King is a quaint restaurant, located on the left of Lollicup in the 99 Ranch shopping center. Parking is in said shopping center, which can be hard to come by during peak hours & weekends.
Sichuan? Or, Szechuan? Chung King has Sichuan on their window, so I’m going with it. Lots of lunch specials with intriguing dishes I want to try, Chung King will have this local coming back for more. I left with a full belly & a big smile on my face
Now, as to why my nipples are red, I dunno…;p
