Delicious authentic Chinese food. The service and food were very quick and the food came out piping hot. We also received large portions for a good price.

My friend and I wanted to get Milk and Honey, but I saw this hole in the wall restaurant instead. It was a hit or miss decision, but overall this place was pretty good. Employees were friendly. Complimentary peanuts and hot tea are given beforehand. This restaurant has a family special, which include three selective entrees for 23 dollars. I ordered beef and broccoli(good), fish fillet with veggies(good) and tofu with shrimp(okay). This special is only from M-F. A typical traditional Chinese restaurant.

I like this place. It is not as «westernized» as the other Chinese restaurants and the food seems to be more authentic. I went at least twice with my coworkers and so far we couldn’t find any bad dish. The lunch specials for under $ 8 are big and good. Even though the hot and sour soup is not free, I highly recommend it(the bowl is big enough for 4 people)

Love love love! This place is owned by a pastor which I thought was fantastic. Food is delicious, authentic Taiwanese. My hubby and I love coming here after church.

Customer service is definitely better than before. I was quite surprised that our waitress came by at least twice asking if everything was okay. I also enjoyed the food better this time around. Fish braised in Chili oil: a piping hot bowl of fish slices and braised napa cabbage goodness, which surprisingly is not as spicy nor as greasy as the name suggests. The soup filled dumplings are good.(8 pieces per serving). Also requested the eggplant with basil to be done spicy. The server verified that when she placed the dish at table. I guess that’s not the usual. Garlic chicken has whole pieces of garlic in it. Other patrons seemed to get the hotpot dishes, and my waiter said they were all different from one another. I will need to be schooled about this type of food for the next visit.

I’m so glad I found this place. They have managed to set themselves apart amid such stiff competition around here. We were greeted and signed in with about 20 min wait for lunch. We were served quickly but had to constantly flag down servers once we were seated. They more than made up for it with the food. What sets themselves apart is offering homestyle Chinese/Taiwanese cooking with a «clean» taste and allowing the ingredients to speak for itself without drowning it with msg or soy sauce. Highlights were the clay pot tofu, fried pork-chops and Taiwanese vermicelli. I will be back to try other things for sure

This is an awesome restaurant! Parking is not hostile, check. Looks clean, check. Good dining atmosphere, check. Decent food, check check check. Affordable price, check. Hard to find something that I don’t like. Will definitely bring family and friends to visit again.

My goodness, this is a really long overdue reviews. My mom was the one who introduced me to this place. It is located in the supermarket plaza and not so eye catching. Parking is never a problem since the plaza never gets that busy. The employee service can be a hit or miss at times but the food makes up for it. The Chinese dishes they offer are quite«home» like instead of the normal heavy restaurant style cooking(lots of soy sauce and msg). My family and I usually get the same items over and over due to our not so adventurous palate. We haven’t been let down thus far and I hope we never will. I have noticed that they are upping their game but serving love lobster. They recently added a lobster tank near the entrance. Another change that I noticed was the size of entrees are decreasing but the price has stayed the same. I will continue to come to this location until the food quality no longer matches the price.

My First Review Ever With Unilocal: And I Must Say I Have to Give Credit Where Credit Is Due … This Spot is more then what I expected from a Chinese Restaurant … It’s Good Quality Food for the Price … I had the French Style Beef with No Mushrooms and I Must say the Beef was Tender and not Salty and the Bell Peppers was cooked Perfectly … The White Rice was Good … This is my go to spot for Chinese Food … In a few days I will order the Honey Walnut Shrimp …

I came into Canaan Restaurant with high expectations, considering the numerous great reviews that are on here. Instead, I left a little disappointed following the conclusion of my dinner meal with Chris H. Service was lackluster. The waiter did not pay much attention to our table, we never saw him again after he took our order. All of our food was brought out by the busboy. Our water glasses were never offered a refill and I had to remind the busboy about the coke-cola I had ordered in the first place. Between the two of us, we ordered the green onion pancakes, beef noodle soup(mild spicy), spicy shrimp dumplings and the xiao long bao. The green onion pancakes were inexpensive, but they were lukewarm and not crispy when brought to our table. I loved the tender beef in the beef noodle soup, but there weren’t much noodles that accompanied it The XLB was average, nothing special about them. I love the cozy dining atmosphere inside here but the average food coupled with the poor service leaves me hesitant to come back to Canaan a second time

Vegetarian breakfast review: Breakfast is served only on the weekends until 11am. Food: — Rice roll(fan tuan): Doesn’t really stay together really well when you get purple rice, but at least you can purple rice if you want. I can’t really remember what comes in it because I add stuff. In the end, it has: Chinese donut(you tiao), these crunchy things(??), & I know I add egg & extra pickled veggies. — Egg pancake(dan bing): Very standard, w/a soy paste-ish dipping sauce. If you ask, they have a more garlicy soy dipping sauce. — Sweet soy milk(tian dou jiang): This place sweetens it for you. It’s slightly sweetened, so I guess you could add more, but it’s not bad as it comes. Be forewarned: things run out and that’s that. But it’s hard to find a Chinese breakfast place in the area and it’s pretty good as things go. Service: It can get busy in here, so there might be a wait. There are a lot of people who order take-out too, so it takes up the time of the servers.

I’ve been going here for years, as this is a very good place to go for Shanghainese & Taiwanese food. Their prices have gone up over the years, but the prices are still fair for the quantity & quality of their foods. The restaurant is spacious, clean and their employees are very attentive & friendly. There’s plenty of parking available in this plaza. I also like to get take-out from here too, as they use plastic containers that do not spill inside their plastic bags. You do need to spend more than $ 20 if you want to pay with a credit card, and they do not accept American Express.

ATMOSPHERE: When you walk in, there is a host/hostess stand to the right and tables beyond that and to the left. They have many big tables in such a small space, but there aren’t many tables — probably fifteen to twenty tables. The kitchen is to the left in the middle to back of the restaurant. There are a few employees walking around and helping the customers. SERVICE: It was good. I can’t complain. We got tea and waters quickly. Then, after taking our order, things seemed to come out in a reasonable about of time afterwards. FOOD: I would definitely recommend the Spicy Sauce Chicken and the Cashew Shrimp. The whole table loved those dishes, as well as the Twice Cooked Pork with Cabbage and Tofu, but I didn’t try it. Not my thing. Anyway, the rest of the food was good, too — Shrimp Chow Mein, Dumplings, Kung Pao Chicken, and Rice. It was a lot of food. There was five adults and a baby, and we had leftovers, which I’m not complaining. It’s, like, the only leftovers I will eat besides pizza. Ha.

Yummy! Taiwanese breakfast always so delicious with the hot sweet soy bean milk to dip Chinese donuts in. I enjoyed the green onion pancakes, steamed pork dumplings, chicken chive dumplings, turnip cake and lots of tea. I was really full after this breakfast not eating a whole lot. The ginger was very freshly prepared so when I use it with the vinegar and soy sauce for the steamed pork dumplings it made it even more flavorful and delicious. Food isn’t too greasy usually the Chinese donuts are really oily then this place knew how to make it right. It’s not easy to find a really good Taiwanese breakfast place in Orange County that taste good and very hidden gem.

My grandparents are regulars here, and I can see why! Canaan restaurant has some legit delicious food that makes my tummy dance with joy. — Xiao Long Baos(8 pieces): pretty decent steamed dumplings — Stir Fried Rice Cakes with Salted Vegetables: so good! — Fish Fillet in Hot Sauce: my favorite dish. Loads of fish and tons of flavor! — Salty Fish with Tofu: comes in a clay pot, and more refreshing — Shredded Pork with Bamboo Shoots: standard dish All of the dishes had huge portions, so it’s perfect to share with a group. You can tell they don’t skimp on ingredients.(We even had some leftovers.) After your meal, they also give you a bowl of dessert. Nice! Total came out to be a little less than $ 50 before tip. They do take your plastic, so go crazy!

I don’t feel all gross and oily after eating here. For a Chinese place, that is a HUGE plus. And, it’s still delicious! Green onion pancakes for the win. The fish with black bean sauce(I think it was) was also good as well. I can’t remember what else we ate(Chinese or nondescript English names) but it was all delicious. I’m kind of bothered that they have a B rating for cleanliness. but anyway…

This is one of my family’s favorite places, and I finally got to come back here for lunch yesterday after a long hiatus. There was about 10 people waiting ahead of us, and we waited about 20 mins at 1pm on a Sunday. As our table was almost ready, they asked us to order, which was great cause slowly after we were seated, our dishes started arriving. I loved everything we ordered! The tofu seafood soup was great, especially if you sprinkle some white pepper on it! The string beans and pork is always great, my mom and I are always amazed at how this dish is prepared since she’s a wonderful cook but can’t seem to replicate the way the string beans are cooked at Chinese restaurants, we speculate it’s cause of the high temperature they can use in a commercial kitchen. The three delights was perfect with shrimp, beef, squid and veggies-highly recommend! The typhoon shrimp was the game changer here being perfectly fried topped with onions, bell peppers and other spices-not healthy but being shared among multiple people, and other more healthy options made it feel okay for me to indulge in these crispy delicious shrimp. After our meal, they gave us little cups of tapioca dessert. Service was fair, they are always super busy so you have to be a little patient. I had to ask for water a few times, and had to ask our server to check on our last dish since we were almost halfway done eating our first three dishes, but for amazing food and portions, and fair prices-I don’t mind. I BF said it’s probably some of the best Chinese food he’s ever had!

10:45AM … breakfast is over at 11 and we weren’t even seated yet! Nooooo!!! I want the Taiwanese breakfast! Oooh, lucky us, the host guy took our breakfast orders and said they’d bring them out after we were seated! Awesome!!! We were seated at 11:05, I would’ve been pissed if I couldn’t get the breakfast items I went there specifically for. Their warm soybean milk with the donutty thing is quite yummy! Their XLBs are pretty good too. Onion pancakes and Taiwanese egg pancakes are favs. as well. It’s a small place with servers hustling and bustling, not a high-end establishment so don’t expect exceptional service. They just get the job done for the most part, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get a smile every once in a while when you’re waiting for your table to be cleared or your bill. This review is only for their weekend breakfasts since I can’t speak for lunch/dinner here.
