TOP10WOODENCOASTERS — #6 ________________________ Giddy on up! Rocky Mountain Construction came in and – once again – re-tracked the entire layout of a former Lone Star State classic wooden coaster(Iron Rattler being the other). Unlike every other Rocky Mountain refurb job, this doesn’t have any inversions but that makes it no less extreme of a ride. Using the existing support structure of the former Texas Giant, RMC intensified the drops, increased the banking on most turns, and amplified the overall ride experience. The end result is a breathtaking ride that does the great state of Texas justice. I created a new page for this ride, since it appears that the other page is for the old Texas Giant, which no longer exists. The only similarities are in name and concrete footer placement, everything else is completely different. Better. The former coaster was a wooden monstrosity that delivered a fairly rough ride, whereas this adaptation runs smooth as silk. The pacing is relentless and this ride is a veritable airtime machine; NTG offers up more negative G’s than just about any other roller coaster still in operation. I especially enjoyed the 4 short tunnels at the end, two of which have LED light displays. ~Special ride elements~ *153ft tall lift hill with a first drop at 79° *Double-up *95° overbanked turn *Tunnel(x4) NTG, like its neighbor Titan, features zippered pockets in-car so you can stash your phone/wallet without fear of it falling from your pocket. The train is fashioned to look like an old Cadillac and comes complete with horns on the first car, a snazzy touch. Ride crews were quick and wait times were virtually nonexistent. The train’s plastic side shields seem a little odd, perhaps as an attempt to keep riders’ arms«inside the vehicle at all times»? Long story short, The New Texas Giant is an absolute must on your visit to SFOT. A tremendously thrilling coaster that should garner rides in both the front and back rows for maximum enjoyment. Yeehaw y’all!
