Rise-N-Shine Donuts was not the best donut shop around, but I found that the goods were enough to satisfy me. As friendly owners as I have found in the Arlington area in terms of donut shop entrepreneurs, so that always seems to enhance the experience, since all donut shops are created equal, right? Unfortunately, I like to gauge a shop of fried dough by its apple fritter, simply because you can really mess these up… and if you really mess up a simple glazed donut, you are probably fixin’ to close up shop, in my opinion. The apple fritter here possessed absolutely no apple flavor. The blueberry cake was a little too dense, and the dough sort of took up the berry flavor, though the interior did have a beautiful(surely artificial, though) purple hue. Yes, I just used the word hue to describe a donut. But… free holes is always a plus. The lady tossed in some donut holes, and well… customer service is sometimes enough to throw an establishment offering the best of fried dough(which never passes a certain level of quality) right over the top!

Mmmm want donuts that will melt in your mouth and never in your hands? These donuts aren’t fancy or organic. The place that produces them isn’t hip and trendy– in fact, it’s downright old and raggedy. This place is like that old t-shirt from jr high or high school that you can’t get rid of because it’s perfectly worn in and comfortable. You’ll find the old classic glazed and jelly filled donuts. The yeast donuts are tender, light, and chewy. I absolutely love them. The cake donuts are never dry and crumbly. They’re just melt in your mouth greatness. They make pretty kick ass sausage rolls too. Try the ones with jalapenos in them, they have a nice kick to em. Now if only they had the perfect coffee, they would get 5 stars. :)
