Our experience at J Lee started out fine. I found Bruce Foster a nice enough person. I had people ask me why I was going all the way out to Arlington? The answer was I was sent there by our contractor… and Bruce seemed nice. A family business. We ordered carpet for our bedroom, and tile for the master bath floors. I never saw a work order, was only given a bid. They were doing the tile, when I went up to tell the the man installing the tile that I had to leave for a moment… he was installing tile as baseboard molding. I had not asked for that. I was shocked. Thankfully he had only installed one tile. He pulled it off. These are long tiles, so the wall had to be patched, retextured and painted in that spot. I told him I had never requested or asked for tile as a baseboard molding. I wanted the wide painted molding that I had throughout my house. In fact I remember it being brought up when Bruce was there measuring, and I said no, I did not want that. This is tile that looks like hardwood. Who would want that as baseboard. The rest of my house is wide painted baseboard. Nothing more was ever said to me. I stupidly paid the balance of the invoice over the phone. Bruce asked me if needed to see the invoice first and I said no, I trusted him. Not a word was said to me about the mistake in putting up a tile baseboard. Not a word was said to me that i was going to be charged for tile i did NOT order. Then a mailed invoice came and I see I am charged for bull nosed tiles… the ones I had not asked for or ordered. I told my husband I would call Bruce and get a refund, because it was a mistake. My husband suggested we just ask for credit because we still have some tile work that needs to be done. I just wanted a refund. Ad I was sure it was a honest mistake on Bruce’s part. So…this morning I call Bruce. Well… the nice person I thought Bruce was… not so nice to me on the phone at all. I was shocked at how mean and rude he was. He said I asked for the bullnose, and that it was a special order and not returnable. He was so incredibly rude. I was shocked. Nothing was his fault… he didn’t make a mistake. Basically insinuated that I was lying. Kept telling me it was on the work order and not returnable, but i never saw or signed anything. He never contacted me after his installer left here… with the bull nosed tiles. Never called me about the fact that i told his worker not to install the tile because i did not order it. Never made any kind of effort to talk to me about it. I assumed it was all okay and there was not a problem. After all, i did not ever request a tile baseboard. Then I asked him where these expensive tiles I paid for were? In a trailer or warehouse was what I was told. I don’t think he has a clue. My guess is they were used someplace else and he made a double profit. He’s said he had no use for them… but he had also told me when I picked out the tile that it was really popular. And it seems funny to me that if I was going to have to pay for them… why were they not left behind??? Not that I want them, but there is something very dishonest about the whole thing. I will be very vocal and loud and discourage anyone from doing business with him. He is not the nice man that he seems. He kept repeating. «I’m a salesman» in our conversation. Not sure what that was suppose to mean, but I told him«I’m your customer». Shouldn’t that have meant something? Guess not.
