I live in the area and I had always wanted to check this place out so a couple of Fridays ago I went for dinner and drinks. Upon entering the establishment around 6:30PM, me and my dining companion were greeted with curious stares by the 5 people or so that we’re seated at the bar. The hostess/waitress seated us in the dining area, and we were the only folks eating at that time. About 10 minutes later she came back for our drink orders(did I mention this place was basically empty?), and we ordered our food at that time as well. I had a margarita and much to my dismay it tasted like the cheap mixers you get at the grocery store. I think it may have had tequila in it but I honestly can’t be sure. I ordered fajitas for dinner. The fajita meat was quite tasty but I found it odd that the only setup was rice and beans. Generally fajitas also come with cheese, salsa, guacamole, etc. as these did not they were quite dry. Also apparently fajitas here don’t come with tortillas as I had to ask the waitress for them, and she really seemed put out by the request and only brought me two. We were left alone for the rest of the meal, perhaps because they didn’t want us asking for more of their tortillas as they apparently didn’t want to give them out. We ended up leaving after we ate about a quarter of our meals since our drinks were empty and couldn’t get any service, and we had to flag the waitress down for the check. My crappy margarita was nearly $ 10 and I am wondering if that’s what they charge everyone else as the check was handwritten. We finished our meals at home after stopping by the grocery store to get tortillas. All-in-all this was probably the most awkward dining experience of my life and it was clear that the staff didn’t want us in their establishment. I assume this place is mostly patronized by «regulars». As outsiders we weren’t necessarily welcome, and we were infringing on the staffs’ social time.

When you see this restaurant from the curb, it’s pretty apparent that this place isn’t out to cater to the average Arlington resident(which is a good thing). I have an open mind so I gave it a shot with a few friends. The first thing that hits you when you enter the premises is music playing at a volume equivalent to a plane taking off. It was a little much. There was a guy(annihilated) dancing and taking his shirt off near the door. Nobody thought he should be thrown out. Oh well, I’m adventurous. The server was pretty unattentive towards our table. I wasn’t surprised as this seemed to be the kind of place where there are regular customers who are given preferential treatment. It was starting to get a little annoying. The food was fantastic(that’s the point of going out to eat, right?). All four of us enjoyed our food, so in the end we left pretty satisfied. I’d give this place 2.5 stars if I could. 4⁄5 stars for the food, 1⁄5 for the service. It went beyond«hole in the wall» status to being a bit ridiculous. Get takeout.

Hopefully the food saves this place… because everything else needs work. As a neighborhood resident I am hopeful that this isn’t another in a long line of failed eateries at this location. Opening night featured a band that was so loud and service that was so slow I noticed several families leave without tasting the food, which is a shame because it’s actually pretty darned good. Maybe the best refried beans in the area. I would have loved to have tasted the guacamole, but this MEXICAN restaurant had no avocadoes at 6pm on opening night. It’s clear that management is trying to make a serious go of it, but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done to make this competitive with the two other Mexican restaurants in walking distance. Good luck to them.
