They closed their franchise in Mitsuwa but will be opening in another location, per their website. Let’s wait and see where will they land next.

Have only eaten here a handful of times because frankly we mainly come for ramen and unagi bowls and black sesame or ginger ice cream. But have always liked it especially for their energetic, flashier ‘theme’ compared to the other more sedate booths. Their LASTDAY is FEB15, 2015 so hurry up and visit before they’re gone for good.

I am disappoint. Super greasy burgers you can’t hold up right, lackluster fries, and lazy workers = disaster.

In Chicago spending time w family. Decided to go to Mitsuwa market place to buy grocery. Sister said let’s have burgers. I love this place. They had shrimp burger, crabby burger and lob dog(lobster dog). What we ordered: Teriyaki burger for Brie Gambuto burger for sis — had sunny side egg Crabby burger for me. — yummy. It’s a fried soft shell crab with tartar sauce n I think wasabi mayo. It was awesomeness not too greasy. Not sure if the guy at the cashier told the cook to pat it down after to take grease out. Then we all had fries and I’m so happy they made mine extra crispy like I asked for. All in all this place was pretty good. It’s located inside an Asian market along with other restaurants. It’s a good court. I definitely think it’s worth a try. Oh I also got a treat. I was given the Adam’s apple cake to try. Thanks cashier guy! It was delicious but you’re right it was a bit sweet. I’m sharing it w my sis n daughter. Enjoy!

Gabutto is awesome! Located in the Mitsuwa Marketplace, it is the only place that accepts credit — and their burgers are original and tasty. I ordered the shrimp burger, which was excellent. It was meaty and shrimpy and topped with cabbage, this tasty sauce, and a side of wasabi mayo for the fries. My friend ordered the crabby burger which was an entire softshell crab topped with their sauce, and cabbage. So tasty! We’ll definitely stop here again when perusing Mitsuwa. Interesting sidenote: they call themselves Gabutto Burger: stuffed pancake. Naturally with a sign like that we ordered the burgers as well as the stuffed pancake. We had the custard filled pancake and the red bean paste filled pancake. Both were good, you should try them!

Call me and everyone else in line at this joint SpongeBob, cause we are all about the crabby pattys. This place offers a refreshing take on old, boring hamburgers by providing a taste of what folks might expect to find at a Japanese McDonald’s. The menu includes teriyaki burgers, shrimp burgers, tofu burgers, crabby pattys — do you see where I’m going with this yet?! Anyway, the buns here are totally rad/rock, and they have a bunch of bizarre seasonings to liberally toss about your fries at will. I don’t remember what they are, exactly, since I don’t eat fries on account of the fact that they’re not Oreos, but I’m pretty sure one of them was wasabi. So that’s fun! In short, if you’re in Mitsuwa and not carrying cash(fool!), gabutto burger is a pretty sick consolation prize.

So you’re at Mitsuwa and the line for the ramen shop is ridiculous and you don’t want to wait 45 minutes for food. So, you stumble upon this burger joint and ask yourself why you would eat a burger at a Japanese supermarket? But heck, you tell yourself why not. Upon eating, you’ve knocked your shoes off. These burgers are amazing. Like A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Like why isn’t the line for this place just as long? Like can there be more gabutto burgers on this planet??? Ok, so the burgers are the bomb dot com. I highly recommend the gabutto egg burger because the liquid yolk completes the gabutto experience. The meat isn’t like usual burger meat because it’s softer, but I actually prefer it since it is more tender and easy to chow down. The flavoring is incredible. The buns are incredible, puffy, soft, chewy, everything you ever wanted. It’s topped with fresh lettuce and tomato and comes in a convenient paper case that lets all the juices drip without mess. I’ve tried the other kinds of burgers here before but the gabutto egg burger will always be best. Next, for healthier options, I recommend you switch fries to the seaweed salad. Because that, folks, is also amazing. I love the green mix and the soy wasabi dressing and it comes with the freshest seaweed ever. Fries are a good choice too though. You can flavor with the spices you want up at the counter. Also, don’t forget about the stuffed pancakes they have here. Just $ 1.50 and you got yourself delicious treat. Love the custard flavor. Also, with the combo, you can upgrade your drink to their special calpico smoothies! I really like the mango flavor. Next time you’re at Mitsuwa be sure to stop by!

I had the BBQ rice burger… the ‘bun’ is just grilled rice. Very cool! :) I loved it. Interesting and flavorful. The only negative thing I have to say about the place is to maybe hire some more cheerful employees. The girl that took my order was very rude and impatient.

Situated in the mitsuwa food court sits a lone burger joint, that serves an amazing burger with pork beef mixes, crabby patties and all grass fed beef. Let’s start with the burgers, the standard(Gabutto) cheese burger comes with cheese and a demi sauce on top, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. The burger will melt in your mouth. The fries are really thin and crispy, then to top it off they offer about 10 different seasonings, I like this as your can mix/match and go as heavy/light as you want.

New to the store, I opted for the eponymously named Gabutto Burger Combo. The bun was soft and warm, with a single slice of tomato and lettuce on top of the patty. The burger patty, itself, was covered in a salty-sweet demi-glacé that was fresh to the palate with every bite. The fries were standard fare, but 8 flavored seasonings could spice it up however the diner wishes. Ranch, Garlic, Jalapeño Cheese, and Curry & Cheese are just a few flavor options for your fries. Don’t forget to try the Wasabi Mayo with your burger(or your fries).

Meh, thankfully I had a Groupon. The food isn’t bad but when you look at you’re receipt after you’ve eaten you may have buyers’ remorse. My Groupon was for 2 burgers, sides, and drinks with a value of $ 17.98, we pushed our total to $ 27. I had the special crabby burger which is essentially just a fried soft shell crab on a bun with shredded lettuce and the mayo sauce for almost $ 10. It was good but at that price you’re in the full entrée neighborhood. My brother got the Gabutto burger, decent enough but not very meaty. They offer the option to swap to grass fed beef for $ 1.50 but that might not be a smart move since there isn’t much beef and it gets slathered in sauce that covers the flavor. The fries weren’t special at all, and the seasonings are just a powder you shake on top rather than something more flavorful. If it was up to me I would tweak the prices and work on the fries, but judging by the reviews there are enough people willing to pay. The buns are soft and not ‘doughy’ as they appear in photos. The wasabi dip for the fries was good but the fries seem to serve the purpose of filling you up where the burger hasn’t. Still, $ 27 for 2 combos is a stretch unless you’re at Lockdown or Bad Apple.

Before Umami Burger of California, there was Gabutto Burger of Arlington Heights in Mitsuwa. Okay, just kidding. I can’t say that it’s true but their burgers definitely had the umami taste before the whole umami craze. I tried the original, teriyaki, and tofu burger — all three in one sitting. For only around $ 5 each, I couldn’t help myself but order each one. Out of the three, the original stood out the most. The combination of beef and pork patty made it juicy and flavorful but it was the sauce that made all the difference. The original burger patty is sauced with a demi glacé which is a rich French sauce made from beef stock and wine that has been reduced. For an Asian style burger, it’s pretty good and has an umami aftertaste. If you still have room in your stomach and money left over after all of the sushi, pastries, mocha, and Pockey that you ate from Mitsuwa, then I would recommend trying the original burger at Gabutto.

Loved the teriyaki wasabi burger. The grass fed beef DOES make a difference. Loved that it one of the only places in food court to take CC’s. The shoe stringed potatoes were good, thought they were going to be wasabi flavored as well but you had to do that yourself with seasoning.

This is the only restaurant in Mitsuwa that takes credit card so we were brought here by default. Surprisingly the burger was delicious. I’ve never had a wasabi aioli before but it was the right amount of kick mixed with enough mayo fat to give you flavor but didn’t flare up your nose.

It’s nice to see Gabuto Burger’s still open. I still love their burgers, especially when they do a special Burger of the Months, like soft shell crab, but one thing that really makes me love this joint is the fries. 99.5% of the time, they are perfect. Hot, crispy on the outside, mealy on the inside, and with all the flavored salts for your choosing. PROTIP: Try half-and-half nacho cheese and ranch powder next time. You won’t even need ketchup.

Some great friends of mine here in Portland started a Japanese inspired hot dog cart, called Domo Dogs. It was great. But I had never heard of a Japanese burger(except in my trips to Japan, of course). I saw this place a couple trips ago in the Chicago area and resolved to try it next time I was through town. As it happened, my favorite dining companion, BurgerDogDaughter and I happen to traverse the Windy City at the same time and hit up the food court at this massive Japanese grocery, which used to be a favorite haunt of ours when she was coming up. I checked out Gabutto Burger. They promise a «delicious experience», with their special Gabutto patty, part beef, part pork, breaded with their special glaze. It’s not a teriyaki, and it’s not quite a savory. Somewhere in between but more towards the savory. While I generally don’t like sauces of most any ilk(except bernaise and bechamel), this was ok. The bun was ultra bakery soft, but not so much that it would fall apart with the weight of the burger, sauce, and moisture from the vegetables(tomato, lettuce, purple raw onion). If your measure of perfect fries is McDonald’s, you’ll love these crispy shoestrings. On the counter are 8 shakers of ‘flavoring’, you choose what you like for your fries — garlic/butter, ranch, original spicy, curry, and so on. I went with the garlic butter, and tried some wasabi, too. Both were enjoyable. The burger and fries came in at $ 7. But the company? Priceless.

I’ve been here two times now, and while I’ve enjoyed my food, I haven’t been too impressed. The first time, we got the teriyaki wasabi burger combo with a mango no guilt shake and creamed corn soup. I wasn’t a fan of any of them. The creamed corn soup was disappointing. Even the creamed corn soup that McDonalds in Taiwan serves is much better. I love yogurt shakes, but the no guilt shake just didn’t do it for me. I would rather have some guilt and actually enjoy what I’m drinking. We decided to give it another chance today and tried the Korean BBQ pork with rice patties. It took 20 minutes to get the food, but this one was much better. While I give them props(xanga, anyone?) for being creative with the rice patties, it was difficult to eat. After the first bite, everything just fell apart. It became more of a rice dish after that. The meat, though, was quite good. It was very juicy, tender, and plentiful. They also gave a generous portion. For $ 5.48 I would say it was worth the price. I probably would have preferred it with a regular bun. One other gripe– I saw that they sell stuffed pancakes, which I love! I was really excited. They offer red bean, cream custard, and freen tea cream. My favorite is always red bean, so I wanted to order 2, but they said they were out of red bean. Seriously? You’re located INSIDE an asian supermarket and you’re out of red bean and couldn’t buy some more? Oh well, maybe next time. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Gabutto Burger over the other restaurants inside Mitsuwa’s awesome food court, unless you don’t have cash, in which case you wouldn’t have a choice as the other places are all cash only.

My nearly wordless review for Gabutto Burger has been sitting in my drafts for months because quite honestly, I don’t have that much to say about it. After reading a few positive reviews for this place, I dragged my husband to Mitsuwa for some light shopping(he loves their meat, I love the quirky stuff) and a quick lunch here. Thankfully, Gabutto has their menu available in English so I knew what to order. I got the teriyaki tofu burger; my husband ordered a burger that had a fried egg on it. We also got a side of fries. Gabutto has the best teriyaki tofu burger I’ve ever had. In fact, it might be the only teriyaki tofu burger I’ve ever had. Either way, it was very yummy. My tummy was happy. My husband loved his burger and has since, brought that particular burger up in conversations. The fries were good too. I’ll eat here again if I find myself at Mitsuwa in the future but I don’t know if I’ll ever be back, anyway. And that’s my review. The end.

Mmm, mmm, juicy goodness! I tried the Gabutto Cheeseburger & was not disappointed. Not sure what their sauce is but it’s quite tasty. The bun was also good & fresh and held up well against the the juicy burger. Their fries are good and I would say nothing overly special if it weren’t for all their good seasonings to choose from. I like that they have all the seasonings out on the counter so you can try as many as you like. I had the Curry Cheese & also their traditional. The Curry Cheese was the hit at the table. Dipped those in a little wasabi mayo and I gobbled all those fries right up!

As if anyone needs more reasons to visit Mitsuwa? My plan upon entering was to shop and chow down in the food court. I was expecting the phenomenal pastries, fluffy-as-a-cloud bread and some tasty green tea. Mitsuwa delivers on all three counts. So the spectacular burger bar in the food court is a tasty added bonus. After a night of Chicago hot dogs and deep dish, I was in the mood for a veggie alternative. Ordered up the the teriyaki tofu burger and was not disappointed! For return trips, I’ve made a to-try list that includes the BBQ pork rice burger(K-style grilled meat, aw hells yeah) and the stuffed pancakes that had me drooling as I was waiting for my number to be called. Yummmm.
