When you find yourself reviewing soooooooooooooooooo many incredible and eclectic restaurants, bars, concert venues, art galleries, and then some; it oftentimes gets easy to neglect reviewing the local establishments that help you get by. With its selection of hardware, kitchen goods, toiletries, random electronics, cleaning and office supplies, holiday items, toys, and then some in stock; Mapes is that one reliable place on my block that has been able to consistently supply me with something that I REALLY needed. And because of that essential level of reliability I felt like it was a good spot to close out my 2015 reviews with. Just like I did with its Narberth location( ) I give full disclosure in stating that the grand parents of a couple of my friends own these stores, and I do see my friends managing operations from time to time. But that reflects no bias towards my review. When I moved into an apartment next door and needed to stock my kitchen with necessities, Mapes was the store that got it done. When I needed to get ready for the first of many cleaning sessions, Mapes was the spot that had everything that I was looking for, including a new vacuum cleaner. Whether I needed a new belt for my pants, huge ass D batteries for a new exercise bike, or a giant bowl to put popcorn in during a movie date night; Mapes had my back. It might not always have the best customer service, and some of its items may be consistently unmarked or overpriced. But its reliability in providing you with what you need to get by on the everyday is undeniable. Plus they have an extremely adorable store cat!

This store is the bomb! I’m so happy to have it right around the corner. In addition to all of the hardware and cleaning items you could possibly imagine, they also stock office supplies, cosmetics, even groceries! 99.9% of the time I come in here, I leave with everything I wanted to find. The employees are friendly and helpful – I have never had a bad customer service experience. This is the most reliable one-stop-shop in Ardmore, hands down. Plus, it’s family owned, so shopping here supports local business!

Forget about buying toys at Mapes — Narberth or Havertown, PA. Lego toys are marked up by at least $ 10 over retail price. Staff is packed with young people that don’t care about service. If something is on sale you have to tell them and then it is a major production to get the % taken off price. The worst of it is NOTHING is marked with a price. You have to get it read by a scanner from the early ’80’s. This is no longer charming it’s getting to be stupid to buy from them instead of online. Who cares if it’s a «Mom and Pop» if you’re getting ripped off and they don’t even want to tell you how much you’ll have to pay!

I love Mapes! A good old fashioned family owned store. They have some really good deals if you check their circular. You’d be surprised by the verity of things they have for sale. The store can be a little disorganized but that is part of the fun, who knows what you’ll find?! Support your local business!

They have everything here, but they have nothing priced correctly and the store seems to be staffed by 12 year olds. Most items are on the wrong rack and so you get an unpleasant surprise when you go to pay and that $ 7 item rings up at $ 19. I would go here if I needed something fast, but that is all.

Love Mapes! My go-to shop for last minute stuff and quick runs to the store. It’s been the rare occasion that they didn’t have whatever it was that I needed — hardware, cleaning supplies, paint, xmas lights, you name it.

I love Mapes. I love their eclectic, old-timey selection(feels like I’m in a time warp), the fact that they have everything that I need(some of the best green laundry detergent I have ever found) in terms of cleaning products, housewares, hardware, etc. It would be cool if they put in an old time candy counter. Their sales staff is always accommodating and their marketing rocks! One of the few stores that the Wal-Marts and Home Depots of the world haven’t taken down. Treasure it.
