Appleton Public Library

I was going to give this a three star, but I support literature too much for that. The only reason I wanted to give it less stars was because of the people who loiter inside. It gets so bad that the library has to make really odd (yet unfortunately necessary) rules, such as: no staring or eavesdropping, no bad body odor, and no harassing, among others. Just today we had to complain about a group of girls because they were making loud, lewd comments. My girlfriend is regularly leered at by strange men and more than once she’s been hit on and followed. She used to love going there to write and study, but that’s a difficult commodity to come across.
If, in the future, things are better balanced about these problems, then we’d be happy to frequent more often.

but why do the police ticket you for parking to long in the public library parking lot?

Appleton really has a solid library. The selection is great. For popular books and movies, there are multiple copies, which is awesome. I don’t remember the last time I had to wait an extended amount of time to get ahold of a book or movie I wanted from the APL. The library also has had some really great programs, and I’d love to see more.
The reference librarians have always been so helpful and have gone out of their way to track down books I could not easily find.
The only minor complaint I have for the library is the lack of tables and chairs to do work. When I first came here looking for a place to plop down with my coursework, I noticed the scarcity of places to work on the first floor. I figured all the work areas were upstairs, but I was a little disappointed; there were mostly desktop computers upstairs.
Overall, I am definitely a fan of the APL and plan on coming back for books, movies, and programs!

Plenty of magazines and newspapers from around the Country. Wide borrowing range. Free one on one Kindle instruction given. Downtown, right next to where all the bus lines intersect. Friendly helpful librarians.

Nice public library. good in house selection and extensive statewide borrowing ability. The only downside is paying for parking.
