Planet Beach Contempo Spa

Had a spray done before going on vacation. Worst spray tan of my life. Very cheap equipment. The machine only sprays you from the front and back. You step out dripping and unable to see since their is no ventilation in the booth. The tan only lasted 2 days (at most). The cost of the tan was $ 40.00. Do not go here for a spray tan. Even if you purchased the cheapest self tanning product available and applied it yourself, you would have better results than using the mystic tanning booth at Planet Beach in Apex. Giving this one star is more than I should for the spray tanning service.

Aside from the prices of services, I have to say that I really love this place!!! I have been tanning here for about a year, on and off, and have nothing but positive things to say. They have been efficient, courteous, and helpful whenever I had any questions. I hardly ever had to wait for a tanning bed, and appreciated the call-​ahead service to reserve a bed during peak hours. On top of that, I had some unfortunate events happen this summer (unexpected sunburn at a baseball game, my error on the expiration of my sessions, and my uncle passing away). The owner graciously extended my expiration date TWICE to accommodate my needs. I am so pleased and will be returning for any and all of my tanning needs.

My review of this place is solely based on a free guest pass I received. I went with my sister and we had a choice of a free Mystic Tan session, Hydration Therapy, or the Slim Capsule. I wasn’t in a Jersey Shore kinda mood so I opted for the Slim Capsule and my sister the HydraTherapy session.
Oh, my word.
First, I must say that chose the Slim Capsule because you ‘can’ burn up to 500 calories a session. What it is is a personal sauna machine that can get up to 178 degrees. I sweated profusely while in there. The fans were hitting my face the whole time so I never got that panicky «oh my God, it’s too hot in here» feeling.
Did I come out 10 lbs lighter? Well, eh… no. I will say that my skin felt refreshed and energized. According to the machine, I burnt 210 calories. Sure, I’ll take that but this is what I wasn’t prepared for …
The previous day I went to work out on my treadmill and couldn’t bear the pain I was feeling in my muscles and joints when I began running. Sometimes this happens to me when I haven’t worked out for a couple of days. Needless to say, I skipped that day’s work out. I went to Planet Beach did the Slim Capsule that same day and went about my business as usual.
Throughout the day, my muscles stayed warm as if I had gotten a good running session in but I knew I had not. I didn’t think anything of it until I got on my treadmill the next morning and realized my muscles and joints didn’t ache. I hate sounding like an infomercial on my Unilocal review — but I’m seriously going back to get a membership, just so I can use the Slim Capsule. The relief I felt in my muscles and joints are very worth it. I don’t know of any other place I can use a machine like this. I’ve been to Turkish Bath Houses and the daily rate to use their saunas is about $ 30 a visit.
I will update my review on staff and facility once I get a membership. Thus far, the facility is extremely clean and the staff (Adina) is very friendly.
