I want to try to be fair about this place, but I almost turned around and walked out after the doors parted and I was blasted by the smell. Since the things I was looking for today did not include meat or fish, I decided to push on through it and check out the aisles, but the smell was so pervasive that I knew I couldn’t buy anything, open it at home and not be reminded. Having little experience with this kind of multi-ethnicity chow type store, I wonder if this is at all normal??? But the smell was like rotted dead things. OLD rotted dead things piling up on one another over time. I anticipated fish smell, but this was something else entirely. It was so bad that I barely remember the specialty produce and spices I perused. The coolers and freezers seem to be in various states of cleanliness and various states of repair; the floors were wet on the last two aisles and not because they’d been cleaned. In several places there was thick grime and trash in the floor. One smiling Asian girl was friendly and welcoming, all other staff in the store seemed mad at the world and oblivious to the handful of customers. I’ve been driving past this place occasionally for over a year, and each time I was struck by the awesomeness of a potential nearby International Market, but confused by its consistently empty parking lot — I think I know why now.
