This place is okay. I think the bar is pretty good. They have cheap drinks. I would probably just come here to drink. My main complaint is that it’s super small and cramped. The second is, it’s not vegetarian friendly. They do give you massive portions however.

I’ve been coming here for years, I highly recommend mac’s old house, my Caesar chicken salad was very delicious with large flavorful chunks of chicken. Christine was our waitress and she not only gave us great service, she always had a friendly smile. I look forward to coming back again and again.

An Antioch Classic! My family has been coming to Mac’s since the 60’s. Great food and drink at amazing prices. The tenders and servers treat you like family. This is Antioch’s version of Cheers, only with better drinks and food. I don’t think I’ve ever ordered anything but the prime rib. No need to steer away from something I love. If you’re new to town, passing through or visiting, do yourself a favor and go try Mac’s! There is a reason they’re still open and running strong! It is cash only! But they now have an ATM inside, if you wanna avoid the couple dollar service charge, come with cash! Grandpa had his own seat, I’ve been going since I was a little kid. They live by the principle, if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. This place has never been broke!!!

I only give it one star for the bread! The bread was bomb!!! I’m not sure why people rave over this hole in the wall. The food was nasty and the soup tastes like it came out of a can, my salad was supposed to be an «Italian» salad but it was more like lots of wilted lettuce with ONE whole piece of salami on top(pretty sad), like, REALLY, lol. The chicken had no flavor, was so over cooked I couldn’t even cut it. My 3 year old son only ate the ONE salami off my salad and the bread. Everything in there just seems old and outdated, you can tell the regulars there Our waitress was super rude and not helpful at all. If you hate your job, which I can see why, then quite and work somewhere else. Don’t take it out on a customer who puts money/tip in your pocket! Last but not least… drum roll please… a fly croaked and died on my sons plate right in front of us! Nasty!!! LIKETHEOLDSAYINGGOES– You get what you pay for. I will NEVER come back again.

Well, the soup and bread are pretty good — excellent for a cold night when you are super hungry. The other items we got were just OK, veggies kind of mushy, pasta just OK, salad also just OK. Bring cash, they do not take debit or credit cards — but they will sell you a pot of soup if you bring your own pot on weekends. Nice to know now that the weather is getting cold.

Hell’s Bell’s this place is amazing!!! I want to leave my friends and family and move in. I defy you to try and find a place that will give more respect for your dollar. First off this place is crowded but if you can get the barkeeps attention you will be treated to a generous pour of booze. A double jack and coke is $ 3 bucks. That’s banana’s! Once you are seated get the Prime Rib dinner for $ 12.95. I am still stuffed 16 hours later. The dinner comes with hot out of the oven French bread, salad and the most amazing Minestrone soup. Being a paesano, I have had a lot of Minestrone in my time and this is at the top of the list. Sorry grandma. I won’t bother describing it as whatever I write won’t do it justice. The prime rib was perfectly medium rate and had a wonderul crust. Watch out the horseradish is no joke. The service, food, drinks and value are all five stars. Actually, forget everything you’ve just read and don’t go here, I want this place all to myself.

Was up in northern California for work and stayed with some friends in Antioch. They told me that this was *the* place to go eat in town and wanted to take me there. I looked at the Unilocal reviews and saw prime rib so I was in! The place was moderately busy, but if the food is good, no worries. After a short wait we were seated. Service was a bit slow(the reason for 4 stars instead of 5), but once we ordered things picked up. The place is older and quaint, but I was there for the food, not the décor. The menu is simple, but not to be underestimated. All orders get minestrone soup and a delicious sesame seed-topped French bread served family style after you order. They are both delicious. After the soup and bread, you receive a small spring mix salad tossed in vinegar and oil with a slice of salami on it. When the entrees come out they are accompanied by a penne pasta with marinara sauce and vegetable medley. Both are very tasty. I ordered the extra cut prime rib and it was delicious. My friends ordered the calamari steaks and ground round patty. They both loved theirs. The prices are simply amazing for the quality and I don’t see how anybody could leave here hungry. Overall, a great experience and I plan to return.

Yes you can get«prime rib» pretty damned cheap here, but don’t expect a quality piece of meat. The fact that this place always seems to be packed tells me that people will eat just about anything if it’s inexpensive enough. For me? One and done.

Lord or whatever higher deity you serve… Mac’s Ol House is the business and I’m pretty sure if you’ve been here you know why. For those of you that haven’t been here and you live in the east bay area, more notably the Pittsburg, Antioch(where it’s located), Oakley, Brentwood area… Then what’s wrong with you? It almost should be a crime to be a Unilocaler and or Foodie and not have eaten here. Let me tell you why. Mac’s Ol House is just that, A man called«Mac» he turned his«Ol House» into the Italian American mom and pop establishment that I’m reviewing right now. He had a vision, from that i hear about the person that he was, he had a thing for entertaining folks and he loved stiff drinks and to cook. Well I’m indeed glad because I like stiff drinks, food and entertaining people myself. So I know Mac and I would of gotten along just fine. Let me do this review like this… Timing: There is no right or wrong time to come here and it’s not packed. I’ve came here before as soon as they’re opening and during what I feel would be smack down on a weekday thinking people would be at home spending time with their families… wrong! And on a weekend hahahahaa expect an hour or more wait, but trust me its worth it. So be patient if you’re a Mac’s first timer. Drinks: This is a Saloon style bar, so don’t come here wanting something fancy. Wiskey, Vodka, Gin, Bourbon, Beer straight up drinks. Single Shot Drink $ 2.50, Double Shot Drink $ 3.00, Triple Shot Drink $ 3.50. So in .50 incraments you can level your drinks to your… drinking and getting wasted needs. This makes Mac’s popular for pregaming for the night crowd. This place pour is insane, someone’s honestly just the single is enough. Lucky I went to highschool with the bartenders here: D the drinks are indeed stiff! Food: Soup, Salad, and Bread. They have a very simple menu, not alot on it, but all for good reason.“Quality” they know how to make everything on their menu just right. Let me start off with minestrone soup this place is known for… AMAZING! Honestly the best I’ve ever had in my 30 years of life. I always have to leave with a togo container which they sell by weight(you have to bring in your own container) it comes with the fresh house baked bread. The soup itself is very well balanced, not salty, and with the bread to sop up the excess… yea, honestly I can eat this soup all day and not get tired of it. The salad is just that. a salad. A nice vinaigrette not overtly tart and they lay a slice of salami on the top… nothing special. They have a chicken item and a calamari steak item on the menu, but… the stars of the show here is the beef! The three steaks, 10 oz NY Cut, 11 oz Prime Rib and the ever popular if you’re brave and have an huge appitite 17 oz «Extra Cut» Prime Rib. I’m a meat eater, and let me tell you, the steaks here beat any of the bigger chain steakhouses I’ve ever been at. Medium is my preferred cooking level, and they get it exact everytime and that makes me happy. Very juicy and flavorful. You can tell it’s cooked with TLC(not the singing group) and experience. To me nothing more than getting your steak cooked wrong and you just have to settle, no worries here at Mac’s you’ll be delighted. Oh and $ 12.99 for the Ny Cut and Prime Rib respectively, and $ 17.99 for the«Extra Cut» Prime Rib. Sides: You get Pasta and Steamed veggies with your main course. You can keep it halfed or just one or the other by asking for«double» of either the pasta or veggies. The Ragu or «sauce» they use on the pasta is great. It’s house made and fresh, nice acidity from the tomatoes, and the finally grounded beef and mushrooms balance this sauce nicely. If you get one of the steaks you get a nice horseradish sauce as well. In conclusion, Mac’s Ol House is like a right of passage, you almost can’t have lived in the east bay and not have come here. I’ve watched two vegetarians come here and end up ordering steaks before(true story) the ambiance and vibe this place gives out is amazing. The service is awesome and the food has made this place almost legendary. I’ve gone to other states and heard people talk about Mac’s(one being a steakhouse in Reno) my opinion is only one of I’m sure many and many more to come. But you be your own judge. Come and experience this place for yourself, and as always Unilocal your own experience.

TL;DR: Dirt cheap prices on food and drink. Seriously, its ridiculous. Cozy atmosphere, frequently busy. Cash Only Establishment. Been here more than a few times for dinner. Almost always enjoy myself. Its literally someone’s old house, thats been repurposed into a restaurant. It definitely shows in the décor and arrangement of the establishment, as its not a huge space, and quickly fills up. The last time we ended up leaving before getting a table because the wait was simply too long to fit into our schedule for the evening. Almost everyone goes here for the prime rib. For 12.95, you get bread, minestrone soup, salad, prime rib, with pasta and steamed vegetables. Its a huge spread. Its not the best cut of prime rib you’ll ever have, but thats definitely reflected in the price. Its certainly not bad by any means, usually pretty tender and seasoned decently, cooked in the ball park of what you ask for.(Again, I’ve certainly been back more than a few times for it). The menu is pretty short, otherwise; they offer a steak, fish, calamari and one or two other items, but its primarily about the prime rib. The soup is probably my personal favorite, however, and you can get it to go if you bring in your own container. We’ll do this somewhat regularly, then freeze individual portions to enjoy later. The bar has absurdly cheap drinks. They are served in small glasses, but its like 2.50 for a single, 3 for a double and 3.50 for a triple. And they do pour them to those amounts. You can certainly get your buzz on here on a budget. There are rotating specials as well, by day; check their website for a complete list. Little tip, they will give you au jus for your prime rib IFYOUASKFORIT. They don’t freely give it out, but it is available upon request.

Awesome & fast service, everything was brought out in the correct order and timely manner. All dinner entrees come with soup and salad which is served before your entrée. The food was rather tasty. Awesome prices on the drinks, they aren’t skimped either. Great value on the food.

Atmosphere Atmosphere Atmosphere! I love this place for their Atmosphere! Also it’s cash only, and everything is extremely reasonably priced. This is not a fancy restaurant. This is a restaurant with a bar that serves double shots for $ 2.50

This place is not one that I would typically visit. It is literally an old house and a «honky tonk» one at that. The most color in there is the faded and cracked red walls. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. The soup is actually chili with minestrone and it is totally disgusting. The salad is just OK and lacks anything but lettuce. The meat is cooked very well and you will get a heart attack portion. This place reminds me of a trailer park environment but worth a 30 minute visit for the meat.

I’ve been here twice. The first time, I was picking up my friend because he was drunk. The second time, I came to have dinner with two of my friends. This review is based on the dinner that I had here with my friends. It was a Sunday night and there were a ton of people here. I suppose it’s usually like this for dinner. The first time I came here, it was almost closing and there wasn’t anyone in the restaurant except my friends. Anyways, my friend that was meeting us had gotten there first. She had a seat at the bar and luckily the two seats next to her were also open. I hadn’t had the best of evenings, so I decided to actually have a drink. I went with a triple pineapple vodka. That, I believe was $ 4 and note: they pour three deep. I had two of those before we were seated for dinner and I was pretty buzzed. Once we were seated for dinner, it was the experience like everyone else has posted. On their paper menus, you can see from about the seven selections you have to chose from. From there, they bring out soup and salad, family style and then your main course. I’m pretty sure I ordered the prime rib. Everything tasted good. It was served quickly and I was full after finishing the three courses. The dinner came to $ 42, I believe for the three of us. Can’t beat that for how much food you get. Their method works. There was a range of people in there, from friends catching up to families with kids. I can see why this is a popular establishment in Antioch.

When you get up at 4am to drive to the Delta to go fishing, it’s nice to be rewarded with a nice meal. This was the case this past Tuesday when we arrived at 2pm for a late lunch. Hubby and I usually pack ourselves a nice picnic lunch to eat on the water, but not this time. We had heard Mac’s offers good size food servings so our tummies were ready for the intake. When you walk in, your eyes have to adjust to the dark surroundings. The bar is to your immediate right and the main dining room is to your left. Please wait to be seated. Mac’s Old House was a house. The room we ate in still has the fireplace and mantel. It’s a bare bones kind of place. No need to dress up. The main dining room was almost capacity. The menu is printed on your paper placemat. Great food at a very good price. Hubby and I both got the prime rib lunch. Comes with choice of soup or salad, hot bread, and pasta with meat sauce. And real horseradish. Everything on our plate was temperature hot. Cooked perfectly. Friendly quick efficient service. We jumped back on Hwy 4 east and made our way back to the City with content tummies.
