DONOTEATHERE! AVOIDTHISPLACE. My experience at this restaurant almost cost me my life… LITERALLY. I’ll make this story short. I have a peanut allergy however I am still able to eat Chinese food because most places have converted to primarily using veggie oils. Here is where my problem begins. I called to ask«do you use peanut oil or peanuts in your food» the answer was No. I called back ordered my food and asked one other time to be sure they were not using any peanuts. I didn’t not Oder delivery I chose to pick my food up. I entered and before I left I double checked to be sure they didn’t have any of the items I was purchased on the physical menu as containing peanuts; peanuts not listed. I spoke face to face with a woman who assure me I would be fine. When I arrived to work and started to eat I instantly began having an allergic reaction. I asked a co worker to call and ask for me because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t the placebo effect of me freaking myself out. She called and asked several times asking«are you sure, are you sure» the woman constantly assured her there were no traces of peanuts. 2 mins later, as my throat was closing, she called back confirming that the egg roll was indeed wrapped in a peanut sauce. Moral of the story this place, and the people working here do no know what is actually in your food. You could be eating anything and they will not be able to help at all. If you have a food allergy avoid this place at all cost. P. S. The portion I did try was not quality. For there to be so many options in Ann Arbor I would NOT choose this one. I recommend avoiding this hole in the wall place.

Very small portions compering to other places I order from. The chicken fried rice had only few pieces of chicken and zero vegetables. Only good was the chicken in garlic sauce but I don’t think I would order again from them.

Delightful, bright, fresh vegetables, delicious sauce, great egg roll, not too much rice, flat pieces of white chicken(not gristley cubes!). Very friendly and helpful server. She suggested a few items that were not fried. Excellent prices, too.

Worst experience of my «take out» history. I ordered delivery through grubhub(having doing so many times before.). The delivery driver called me an hour and a half after ordering telling me he was«walking up to my house». The problem is I live in an apartment. It all went down hill from there. I tried to guide him go my apartment, but failed. He called his boss(Malcolm) who than called me to tell me «I didn’t know my own address». I calmly informed him I have ordered there successfully many times before. He started shouting. To make a long story short my boyfriend and I cancelled our order. If you want to be treated like garbage for simply trying to order delivery, go for it.

I purchased delivery from the Happy Wok this evening. The delivery time was adequate; about 45 min. The food just wasn’t good. I purchased the roti canal, samosas, veggie spring rolls, and donuts. The donuts were definitely the best out of these options. The spring roll was greasy and with very little flavor. The roti bread tasted like cigarette smoke. I didn’t like either of the dipping sauces. The samosas were a disaster. In my opinion, the dough of the samosa is what makes it a samosa and unfortunately they simply used a wonton wrapper. Not only that the stuffing was lacking in flavor and freshness. They were over cooked and inedible. So sad I bothered to try this place. Luckily, I didn’t spend too much… my total was $ 16. Do not recommend. Can’t wait till the P.F. Changs opens at Briarwood Mall in December 2014. I know they are Americanized Chinese food but at least they are edible and consistent in quality. Update: I have been up all night now with FOODPOISONING. Throwing up and major diarrhea. I curse my decision to order from this place. I hope this passes quickly. I guess I was right in my assessment of the lack of freshness of the samosas. Should have thrown those things in the trash when I saw them but, I was so hungry… :(

I have frequently ordered from this place and have found it to be average/tolerable. But this most recent time the food took LITERALLY100 minutes to get here and when it did get here it was cold and tasted particularly bad. I won’t be ordering from this place again.

Upon moving to Ann Arbor I tried quite a few Chinese places in search of the best food for the best price. Not only was this place the best I could find, they are close and they deliver! The variety of their menu is very appealing. Personal favorites are the Roti Canal which is kind of like naan but more flaky and soft somehow. If you try it you’ll know what I mean. It also comes with two dipping sauces, again, yay variety. I also get the laksa shrimp quite often. It’s a shrimp-tofu-noodle soup that tastes great, especially when spicy. All of the traditional dishes are great as well. Pretty much what you’d expect from any other decent Chinese restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and the delivery is usually quick, although I do live nearby. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is because I wouldn’t drive too far out of my way to eat here, but the convenience and food quality is definitely worth four stars, or maybe 4.5.

Perfect crab rangoons every time and they’re very generous with the sweet and sour sauce cups. Egg rolls are decent. However, don’t order anything else from here. Fried chicken was dry and one of my pieces was in fact boneless. like they ran out of chicken wings and made a last minute substitution. Curry chicken was heavy on the veggies and not very flavorful. Pork fried rice was tasteless and missing pork, egg, and vegetables. Hands down the worst fried rice I’ve ever had. On the up side, service was quick and courteous. I would only recommend them for a crab rangoon fix. 1 star for the superior crab rangoons and another for the service. I think its a family business, but they really need a better chef for their other dishes.

Ordered online from Happy Work’s website and got our food in about half an hour(shortly before the dinner rush on a Saturday night). We were greeted at the restaurant by a friendly young girl, presumably the owner’s daughter? Anyway, here’s what we got: — Wonton egg drop soup: Edible, nothing terribly off about it, but also nothing to write home about. But I mean, it’s just soup, and I won’t rate a takeout place by its soup… — Curry chicken(hot) w/shrimp fried rice: This was pretty good, although like every other experience I’ve had with curry chicken, it was slightly bland. I wonder if this is just how curry chicken is supposed to taste. It tasted better the next day though! The fried rice was also good and had a decent amount of shrimp in it. — Singapore noodles(hot): These were significantly spicier than the curry chicken, and they were tasty! I’m tempted to order this every time I eat here. The portions were decent for the price, and my boyfriend and I had plenty of leftovers. It wasn’t obvious where the Malaysian/Thai/Japanese/etc. dishes were on the menu when I ordered online, but I am curious now, especially if any of the items are as good as the Singapore noodles. In any case, Happy Wok will be my go-to takeout Chinese spot over on this side of town. [07/11/14]: I’ve tried more dishes since then, and they’ve mostly all been good. The Empress Chicken was tasty in small quantities but got sickly sweet after a while. The curry samosas are made with wonton wrappers and kind of small, but I got 8 instead of the 6 listed on the menu, and the filling was flavorful. The cha® kway teow was soooooooooooooooooo good… and greasy for when you’re craving the lard. It was a nice combo of sweet & salty with just a hint of spice. Gah. I could eat the whole order myself in one sitting, but then I’d feel bad because I KNOW it’s unhealthy. I think the Malaysian/Thai/Japanese dishes you can only order during lunch hours, unfortunately. Tip: Sign up for an Eat24 account and get a coupon every weekend for $ 2 off an order of $ 10 or more when you order using their site!

The food is tasty but it takes them 10 years and a day to deliver. They are ALWAYS late, for example I ordered at 5:58 and it is now 7:34 and my food isn’t here. They told me it would arrive between 6:55 and 7:05. This is not the first time it has happened, and I’m so annoyed I might stop ordering. Edit: it is now 7:52 and it is still not here.

Whatever the other reviews say about delivery time, it’s worth the wait. We loved our food. really flavorful, really fresh. Friendly service. I will make this my #1 spot for delivery. Hit the spot. Prices are fair for the quality of the food and in our case, delivery was under 1 hr and that was across town. Love it.

I really love this place. I admit, I have an addiction to their Chicken Pad Thai. I get it almost every time I order, but I am also a fan of the Cashew Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Pork Dumplings, and Chicken and Broccoli. I like to order it when I leave work and pick it up about 20 minutes later on the way home. I have never eaten in because it is kind of divey, but it really lends itself more to take out. Online ordering is SUPER easy! Two things keep me from rating 5 stars– the level of spiciness is not very consistant. I never know if my eyes are going to be watering or if the level will be just right. Also, I live 5 minutes away but it always takes an hour for them to deliver. So I always go pick it up, they almost always give a wait time of 20 minutes.

There’s nothing like greasy chinese food to help you commiserate a hangover. I’ve never eaten in house(not sure you can…) but order out fairly often. None of the main dishes are the best I’ve ever eaten, but the crab rangoon is what keeps me coming back.

I stopped in here with the family at 5:00 on a Thursday night. There wasn’t one person in the restaurant – not even an employee(at least out front). We sat ourselves and read the menu. Decided what we wanted. Re-read the menu. Someone came in and rang the bell at the register. A woman came out, gave the customer her carry-out order, shot us a dirty look and retreated into the back. We were puzzled, but still optimistic. She came out a few minutes later, gave us another nasty glance and disappeared. After another couple of minutes of waiting, we simply packed up the kids and left. Panda House down the street happily took our money.

Sometimes i find myself too lazy to leave the house on a Sunday. Founds me a Chinese takeout through Google in Ann arbor area. This was the place. Super easy ordering online; which was nice. Prompt delivery. Reasonably priced. Food arrived super hot, fresh vegetables, not over cooked. They did good, i’d order again. I think I got the«Happy Family» special. Lots of fresh veggies, meats, and rice. Egg rolls were super tasty, and they didn’t forget my spicy mustard sauce I requested. I like the funny name too.

Gem on the west side of town. When I want to relive my time in Singapore & Malaysia, I come to Happy Wok for their Curry Laksa and Beef Rendang. Nasi Lemak is good. The coconut rice is delicious but their fried sardines and chicken could use a little help though. Still though, it hits the spot. Hainan Chicken is deceptively simple but by god, it will change your life. For those new to Hainan Chicken– it will change your life! They boil the chicken and the remaining juices is what the rice is cooked in. It’s the essence of chicken on plate and it’s unbelievably flavorful. I won’t explain all the dish cos I’m sure you can google what they are but I will say that I can’t satisfy my craving any where else in A2! I used to go to Penang’s in Chinatown, NYC and I would say this place is up there. Delivery. Can’t speak on this because I pick up or eat there. Traditionally, in Singapore, hawker centers(food stands) are the place to go for a quick bite. So I wouldn’t wait too long to eat Roti Canai(pancakes), because it’ll get soggy. Next time you’re watching Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmerman in Singapore and think«omg I gotta have that!». come to Happy Wok!

I can’t believe we waited so long to try this place… it’s awesome! It’s in a tiny strip mall on W. Stadium, in the same mall as the gigantic Little Ceasar statue. The restaurant is pretty humble on the inside, but clean — if a bit cluttered. There is seating for around 18 customers inside total. They have a good website with full menus, so you can take a peek and get an idea of what they offer. Staff are friendly~ Our recommendations(all from the Specialty Menu except for Garlic Chicken… the restaurant doesn’t have all of these items every day, but it’s a good excuse to be adventurous in ordering) — Roasted Duck Noodle Soup. Savory, flavory duck meat, rich broth, and medium rice or wheat noodles. I like to add a bit of chopped cilantro at home. — Garlic Chicken. Tender chicken, lots of veggies, a sweet/savory/garlicky sauce that was really very good! I wasn’t expecting anything great, but this was really yummy/comfort-foody. — Roti Canai — thin, buttery, layered bread — like really, really delicate Naan, with a thin curry dip. Mmm, so good. Order comes with two pieces, enough for two as an appetizer — it’s rich. — Samosas — in wonton skins, fried crisp, vegetables and mildly spiced… kind of greasy and heavy, but still good for a craving. — Chicken Satay — tender with a sweet peanut sauce. The pork variety is just ok. — Fried pork dumplings. You get 8 of these babies for around 5 bucks… are filling and hit the spot. I also like the veggie dumplings, spinach noodle outside and mushroom/cabbage/tofu inside. These are similar to many other restaurants veg-dumplings(aka, probably come frozen in a bag), but they are still good. — Beef Rendang — Beef stew meat, cooked tender, with a rich curry brown sauce, potato, onion. Every once in awhile I’ll get this dish and it’s WAY too fatty/weird cuts of beef… but most of the time It’s been good. — Chicken Mee Rebus — Rice noodles, chicken, egg, sprouts… I get cravings for this, and ever-so-often they’re able to make a batch: O) — Pad Thai with Tofu… not too oily, good flavor and blend of sweet/sour/salty — the tofu is flavored and in thin strips so it has a wonderful texture. With peanut garnish and a split lime. — Donuts. Plain fried dough with cinnamon sugar… SO good when fresh, 10 of them for $ 2. You’ve been warned. DONOT get any of the other Thai dishes, they are spectacularly bad… some of the worst food I’ve set tooth into. That’s it for now! We’ll be trying more of the fish dishes at a later date — and perhaps a few of the Chinese dishes as well.

For the oddest reasons, I was craving for Laksa(google it). It’s been over two years since I had it for the first time in Singapore… so after doing some research on Unilocal,I found Happy Wok. I went out to their website and found that they had Laksa Noodles with Shrimp… man, I was excited. So I placed take-away/carry out/to-go order… I order the Laksa Noodles with Shrimp and Beef Mongolian. The guy told me 15 minutes and it’d be ready. Happy Wok is located right across Big George, the parking lot is one way street… I had to pull into the parking lot twice, because the restaurant’s sign is kinda hidden as you drive on the one-way street. It was around 1:30 pm on Friday, so I expected the restaurant to be busy, to my surprise, the place was empty… my order was waiting, I paid and headed back home. I took a large empty bowl, placed the noodles and poured the broth over it. The smell was excellent and I took my first bite… sadly I was disappointed… it didn’t taste the same as the one in Singapore… I know I know, you can’t compare dishes from respective motherlands in another country… Why I ordered Beef Mongolian I don’t know… it seems I always order food in pairs. The dish came in a single carryout box, half was filled with pork fried rice along with Beef Mongolian… there were more onions then slices of beef… but for $ 5.50 lunch combo with egg roll, one can’t complain. I guess I had high expectation for Laksa… I won’t put Happy Wok on my back burner, will give it another try.
