This was another of my stops for pizza while in Ann Arbor. I was very pleased to see so many pizza places within walking distance. I love me some pie! This place definitely reminded me of my college days. It’s rough around the edges, but in a good way. You can tell it has been around for a while. I went with a simple pepperoni pie(if you can’t do pepperoni correctly, you have problems). It was pretty good, better than most of the pies I tried in Ann Arbor. Good crust, not the finest ingredients but a good slice. I wish I would have had a chance to try their subs, the stromboli looked really tasty. They had a rather large assortment of small liquors as well. You can also grab basic groceries there.

Going in here makes me so uncomfortable. I love supporting local business, but I’ve started to go to 7 – 11 for my party store needs instead of Diag. I think it’s pretty crappy that there’s a .50 cent credit card charge that is not mentioned anywhere in the store,(it’s pretty scuzzy not to let people know, if you ask me, especially when buying a slice of pizza for 1.25) and they don’t offer very good service. The last straw, however, was when I went in there and a man who was hanging out in there talking to the cashier told me I «looked good enough to eat,» and then proceeded to say super embarrassing, uncomfortable, sexual things to me while the cashier just laughed. I basically ran out of there without buying anything. It’s happened to my friends, as well. Totally unprofessional. If I want to be hit on by the homeless, I hang out outside of Necto with my heels on.

Spilled two medium cokes in the car and discounted my work $ 0.86. Put lids on the soda…

Not worth going to now that the 7 – 11 has opened up down the block. Everything in the Diag Party Shoppe is over priced. There is nothing there that can’t be had for a third cheaper at another place within a 5 minute’s walk. Their cigarette prices are literally $ 2 more than any other place in town. The staff is unfriendly and they tack on an extra 50 cents to credit card transactions under $ 20, but that information isn’t posted anywhere visible. Best bet is to go down a few blocks on William to the Beer Depot, much lower prices on a much wider selection.

This place is kind of dirty and rough around the edges, but is a remnant of ann arbor’s «days of yore» so it has an excuse. It has convenience store prices(i.e., on the expensive side) but makes up for it in selection. Want a flavored water? They have every kind every made(it seems). Or how about an obscure Faygo flavor? They got it. They also have a modest selection of grocery basics. They sell popcorn here, which is kind of weird, but cool because as a former film student I had to attend many screenings and would stop here on my way for a bag and a pop. They have an extensive collection of those little mini liquor bottles, too. I like to use stuff like that in my cooking and would always pick ‘em up here. Parking is kind of a b, so I recommend it as a walking destination rather than a driving one. Perfect location across from campus.

This was always a pretty crappy liquor store that I used to buy batteries from. They had like, 9v batteries for $ 13 or some horrendous shit like that. However, now they deliver. That’s pretty awesome, I think. You can get creative as fuck. A large pizza, some Skyy Vodka, Twizzlers, Menthol lights, condoms, pop tarts, you name it. I ordered some pizza and had my mind blown– $ 8 for a large with every vegetable and it was loaded man, no cheap skate bullshit. Now that they deliver, you can enjoy the Diag without having to be near the crusties with the dogs-on-ropes asking for change. Thats pretty cool.

I’m DEFINITELY a fan of this place. One, it keeps me skinny. You have to be to squeeze through the aisles to get to the back coolers. haha Two, all the people there are friendly. It’s like a neighborhood Party store version of Cheers. Sometimes I’ll come looking for an emergency health item and, unless its an Rx item, they’ll have it. Talk about convenience if you live in a nearby dorm. They always have new people there to make it interesting. The guys behind the counter are friendly and FUNNY. Last week they had this cute greeter guy who said hello to everyone who walked in the door. How many other Party Stores have that? Guys, visit this place on the weekend. The experience is almost as much fun as the food. I’m not a pizza eater, but I love their subs. Very low priced if you ask me :)

My understanding of a «Party Store» before I moved to Michigan was a place that sold helium balloons and fancy plates and napkins. But in MI, party stores are convenient stores that conveniently sell booze. Anyway, the Diag Party Shop is fab. The owner, Jerome, is a super nice with a good sense of humor. He is frequently there behind the counter, and a lot of the guys who work there have been there for years. They know the neighborhood and their regulars. Their hot food is both good and cheap – pizza is good and strombolis are huge and laughably inexpensive. They’ve also got a pretty good selection of deli stuff for made-to-order sandwiches. The usual party store fare rounds out the store: Lotto, smokes, cold drinks, fountain soda, wine, beer, candy, and some groceries.

There are two very important things about this place. First, it is the only place around here that checks lotto tickets!(Sells them too.) I don’t play the lotto but I feel like I am always asked to check everyones ticket for them. Second they have super cheap pizza! Good for all of you on a budget.

I visited the Diag Party Shoppe this weekend thinking it was going to be just like any other party store. I was surprised that they offered a decent hot food selection. Their stromboli is probably the best I had ever tasted. They offer fresh squeezed lemonade as well. The store is very busy but the clerks up front were very helpful and have a good sense of humor.

I used to live two blocks from this place and I LOVED it, especially when I was a smoker. The reason I get a kick out of this place is because sometimes this little kid will be behind the counter giving a helping hand. It’s amazing how he knows all the packs of cigarettes by heart! In essence, it’s just like any other corner liquor store: they have cheap pizza that’s decent, a good selection of booze, ice cream bars, and those jello-shot plastic cups you forgot to buy. I feel like that kid gives a lot to the atmosphere, he is the reason for the fourth star. I’m a sucker for interesting characters and weird juxtoposition.
