This place is good. I like the simple choices. And the unique flavors. We had a chicken tikka and the spicy goat curry. Both had good flavor and spiced to our requirements. Of course I liked my wife’s dish better than mine. Our garlic naan could have used a bit more time in the tandoor. But it was good too. But all said it was a good experience. That I’d re turn for more. When a restaurant says Himalayian. It spans several different distinct cultures. India, Nepal, Bhutan, China. So it’s hard to pin them to being«authentic». As this restaurant is in Alaska I thought their menu choices gave me a good variety to choose from. The flavors were a good, DELISHIOUS interpretation of the dishes I wanted. If I had wanted. Solely Indian. That’s where I would have gone. The same with the others. But yaks and yetis. Gave me variety. And I liked it. So boohoo naysayers. Go specialize elsewhere.

This food is amazing. Even the rice has a kind of creamy goodness to it. Very«homely» food, perfectly spiced and delicious. Yam tika masala is like no other. Raita is some of the best I’ve ever had. Two days in a row, leftovers for breakfast, and I still can’t get enough. Also, they will make a salty lassi if you ask for it :)

Cute little place(don’t be discouraged by the outside). Very warm and homey inside. We had the lamb curry and rice with dal and naan. Dal was a little plain in flavor and the naan was raw along the edges(I could literally stretch the dough because it was so raw). I asked for one cooked a little bit more along the edges and they replaced it but made a comment that they didn’t know I wanted«crispy naan». Otherwise a good experience. Food is tasty and homemade; I have had better made by my Indian friends so I really can’t say it was spectacular.

We are ardent fans of Nepalese food and this place didn’t disappoint us. It’s a hole in the wall place run by a few people who probable came from Nepal themselves. They know how to cook the Nepalese food very well. The next time I am in Anchorage, I’ll make sure I do visit them again.

I don’t really get why everyone loves this place. The food isn’t that great. It’s just microwaved leftovers from who knows how long ago.

Great authentic Indian food. Love the naan. My only wish is that they have more variety of meats in the different dishes. Would have loved to of had chicken curry and Lamb was my only option.

I am from Seattle and come to Alaska for about a week. This is where I had my first meal after I landed in Anchorage based on the review on Unilocal.I had very low expectation of finding good Himalayan/Nepalese/Indian good in Alaska and this little gem just caught me by surprise. The food here is very flavorful, cooked just right with friendly service. During my short stay in the area, I came here for 3 meals. I tried a bunch of items on their menu and love everything. The tandoori mushroom is superb. Pork Vindaloo, lamb curry and goat curry are all very tasty. The spicy pork with steamed bun is also a good choice. Definitely recommend anyone that enjoys this type of food to come here. You will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here in Alaska!

The 4 stars are mostly for the service. The staff are extremely sweet and service is prompt. The foods good too but not too authentic. Tried the momos and the butter chicken, they were both pretty average and lacked a little flavor. The chicken wasn’t too tender. The naan on the other hand was really yummy :)

I was very happy with everything about Yak and Yeti. Prompt service, delicious food, and reasonable prices. We started with samosas and lhaso momos. Both were delicious. The sauce for the momos was divine. My roommate got the daal bhaat and goat curry. Perfectly spiced. I got the daal bhaat and shapta. This was a Tibetan dish and I was very impressed. I will definitely be back.

Food is decent. Mix between Indian and Tibetan cuisines. We ordered tomato soup, tigmo, naan and malai kofta. I am giving them 2 stars because of their weird timings. They are open on limited days, and when they are open they have limited open hours. We were hungry and went there for lunch at 1:45, as they were opened till 2:30 but they bluntly told that their kitchen was closed and shooed us away. They need to update their timings information on Unilocal. Please call them before you visit them.

I’ll start by saying I haven’t eaten much Indian food in my life, so this review is more in line with a first-time experience vs. someone who’s eaten«real» Indian food in Mumbai. Hungry one evening in Anchorage and looking to try something a little different/adventurous, I turned to the internet to find my wife and I some dinner. Yak & Yeti was nearby the hotel we were staying at, had solid reviews, and was different so it met the criteria. Hooray for the internet! We arrived during dinner hours(6 – 7), pulling up to a little divey-looking building with a tiny parking lot right off the road. The location really isn’t great, parking is a bit of a pain as is leaving the parking lot which requires you to back into the main road. Inside the building is kind of what you’d expect from the outside and the best way I can describe it is «comfortable». We were greeted by the waitress/hostess immediately upon arriving and explained that we were looking to order takeout but had no idea what to order. She was very friendly and suggested the chicken tikka masala for Indian«newbs» like us. Another waiter(cook maybe, I don’t know) was also hovering nearby the register, but wasn’t nearly as friendly or helpful. I guess you could just call it a bad day for him, 50⁄50 on the service. We ended up going with the suggestion of chicken tikka masala in addition to an order of pork vindaloo. The dishes came with the option of rice, tingmo, or some other bread. We went with rice and tingmo. I’m glad we did as both dishes were tasty and made for an awesome alternative to pizza(boy does Anchorage have a TON of pizza joints), Applebee’s, or TGI Friday’s. I can’t comment on eating at the restaurant itself, but the to-go portions were served in your typical styrofoam container, decent sized, enough to fill both my wife and I’s appetites without feeling the stuffed yuck that is often attributed to overeating. Presentation was… well, messy, but that’s to be expected given the container/food. The chicken tikka masala was very flavorful, definitely my preferred dish of the two sampled, particularly the sauce. Dipping the tingmo(some sort of steamed bun) into the sauce is especially wondrous and it was hard not to «pig» all the buns. Sharing is tough kids. The only negative I found was the chicken itself — a bit on the dry side. I’m not sure if that’s how the dish is prepared traditionally, but I like my meat moist in most cases. The pork vindaloo was tasty, reminded me a bit of adobo for some reason. Lots of flavor, moist, filling. I ate the majority of it(along with most of the rice) as my wife isn’t really a big meat eater. So much for not pigging. I think my biggest takeaway from Yak & Yeti is that I really like Indian food. I would eat here again, and now want to check out other spots back home that serve Indian. I want to cook it at home. Yak & Yeti: Thank you for being a gateway drug into the world of Indian cuisine!

First time here, I’ll give it a 3 because the Chicken Tikka was a little dry right on the edge of juicy and dry. Went for lunch and they had a Lamb Saam special my wife got. She said less lamb more spinach. She’s been before but my first time. Will try again. Place is quaint, and had really attentive staff. That was nice. A+! We would like to try their goat curry next time.

I love coming here, the food and the service are superb. The naan is warm and topped with the perfect amount of golden ghee. The curry is a balance of flavor and heat but if you want it spicier or more mild– just say. The drinks are delish, my favorite is the chai tea(hot or cold) The samosas or the aloo tiki are both great appetizers. The grilled shrimp is(´‘) too. The chicken tikka masala is mild seasonings that adorn tender slices of chicken, I would suggest this meal for anyone unsure of how much they like curry. I love the pork vindaloo, lamb curry or the aloo gobhi. The staff are very gracious and always help me figure out what to get. I am not sure why this place isn’t a 5 star, I actually like that the place is smaller. It makes for a much more personable exp.

Not good. Food was pretty bland. Seemed to be a bunch of people who were into the«trendy –oh we are so global– experience» rather than the quality. Caters to a certain crowd that I am not a part of. I have had Himalayan food and Burmese food in Myanmar. This ain’t it.

So I finally made it to the original Yak & Yeti, and I have to say, I like it less than the Yak & Yeti café. The food is a better value at this location, but it isn’t nearly as nice inside as the café. It’s very cramped and dated looking. Their parking lot was full, so I parked across the street and prayed I wouldn’t get towed. The food was good, but nothing special. My samosas were tasty, but way bigger than they needed to be for an app. By the time my food came, I was too full to really enjoy it. I got the dal, which was very runny. It had more delicately flavored than I was expecting as well. Not exciting. At all Service was excellent, which is the only reason for 3 stars. Food was unmemorable. I might go back for 2nd try someday, but not anytime soon.

Great place for Tibetan/Nepali/Indian food! Came here with my husband and in-laws for an early dinner. Food: +Samosas– nothing special, just regular olé potato samosas +Strawberry Lassi– very delicious with a tangy flavor aftertaste +Tingmo– Tibetan hot buns– super bland and the sauce was just salty soy sauce +Kathmandu Daal Bhatt– loved this simple yellow daal +Naan– soft and buttery +Spicy Goat curry– the highlight of my dinner! very tasty goat meat cooked in curry, reminded me of kali puja back at home + Vegetable Jalfrezi– underwhelming; just a bunch of potatoes and peas mostly with a few cauliflower pieces. Service: Pretty poor service. No one was around to greet us when we walked in. I had to go all the way into the kitchen to call for someone. Then, another 10 minutes for water, and then another 10 to order. Ambience: Cozy restaurant with seating for 20 or so, but it got packed by the end of our dinner. Light hindi music playing in the background. All non-Indian clientele so the locals seem to love it too. –Hungry Hungry Pongy
