I really enjoyed my hot fudge cake sundae! I’ve been here a few times over the years and still a favorite spot for a cool, sweet treat.

Tried the Hawaiian burger with onion rings. Burger was decent for the type of place this was. The onion rings were good, I’d recommend these. Got a chocolate dipped vanilla cone. Generous size but froyo was only ok but not that memorable.

I remember going here as a kid back in the late ’80’s early ’90’s. The only thing I can say this place has going for it so far that I have tried these days is its ice cream and shakes. Other than the menu selection being pretty vast, nothing I have eaten here has stood out as exceptional. And yes, I understand that it is fast food, but I have to categorize this particular fast food quality as lower than most and a step up from Dairy Queen.(That’s not saying much!!) The décor is in desperate need of renovation. It looks like it is about 30 years overdue and it is not kept very clean. The upholstery has dried on catchup on it. The walls have carpet trim and it looks like it hasn’t seen a good cleaning in awhile. I would have to sum this place up as mediocre at best and would definitely not drive out of my way to go there.

Came here last week and the restaurant wasn’t too busy. It literally took them 20 minutes to make one double cheeseburger meal. This place serves mediocre bowling alley food and you’re better off cooking burgers at home. They are so slow it’s like they make one thing at a time(burgers, then fries) and your food is cold/luke warm at best when it’s ready.

Simple hamburgers. Shakes. Chilli cheese fries. Reminds me of suburban jersey. Where kids would go here after their softball games. I liked it. Just simple. Satisfying. Seating outside. I loved it actually lol.

«Little ditty ’bout Jack and Diane…» That song by John Mellencamp always plays in my head whenever I come down here for lunch. This place definitely brings me back to the 80’s especially since the counter and seating area haven’t changed much over the years. Tastee Freez is located at the corner of Raspberry and Jewel Lake across from the Kaladi Bros. and down the road from Kincaid Park. The longtime owner was there as usual giving everyone a friendly greeting and striking up conversations with the regulars. The place was very busy for the lunch rush with more people than usual ordering cones and shakes on a warm, sunny day. I decided to place an order for their foot-long Chili Dog meal which includes fries and a drink. The wait only took several minutes even though there was a flood of lunch orders going through the kitchen. When my order came up, the chili-dog was ginormous. It dwarfed the foot-long sub from Subway and it was loaded with diced onions and shredded cheddar cheese. There was no way I was going to hold this in my hands without making a mess all over my shirt and table so I opted for a plastic knife and fork to keep a civil appearance while scarfing this down. The chili dog was delicious and it made up for the poor sandwich I had at AK Gourmet Subs yesterday. Tastee Freez has other lunch items like burgers, sandwiches, Mexican options, and salads, but the main attraction of course are the desserts. Desserts include the soft cones, dipped cones, shakes, malts, and sundaes with flavors like Chocolate, Vanilla, Marshmallow, Cherry, Banana, Butterscotch, Hot Fudge, Raspberry, Peanut Butter, Peach(one of my favorite flavors), Coffee, Blackberry, and Pineapple. Other specialty desserts are the Freezees(soft serve ice cream with candy and choice of Oreo, Heath, M&M, Butterfinger, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Cookie Dough and Grasshopper), specialty sundaes like the Hot Fudge Cake(double fudge brownie covered with ice cream, fudge, whipped cream, and nuts), Strawberry Shortcake(shortcake covered with ice cream, strawberries, whipped cream, and nuts), and the Bananas Foster. If you’re here to grab some lunch, some items of note are the Country Bacon Cheese Burger, Pastrami Burger, Hawaiian Burger with pineapple and Swiss cheese, Super Nachos(taco meat, beans, and lots of melted nacho cheese), Patty Melt, the Junkyard Dog or Burger(topped with fries, diced onions, cheddar cheese, mustard, and chili), and the Fish Sandwich(deep fried cod with tartar sauce, lettuce, and American cheese). All of these can be ordered with a side of onion rings, curly fries, tater tots, or cheese sticks. This is the perfect stop to pick up a cool treat before spending a summer afternoon at Kincaid Park. It’s great to see this place still going strong after all these years with the original owner and still keeping it’s look from the 1980’s.

I always think of the famous Huey Lewis and the News song from Back in the Future«Back in Time» whenever I come here. I really do not think that there has been a single thing changed in this restaurant since 1986, except the prices. The tables, bathrooms, counters, you name it, right out of the ‘80s. The food is on par with Dairy Queen, but the staff is always courteous and the place is always clean. I never go out of my way to eat here, but it always does in a pinch.

What do you think I’d say. This is an Anchorage landmark that certainly lives up to its reputation for meaty, GameStop hamburgers and tasty soft serve ice cream convections. You just have to have a meal here during your Alaska experience.

Had a mushroom burger. Which was OK. The lettuce though was absolutely horrid. Had to avoid eating the lettuce. Tator tots SM are indeed small. Ketchup cups are too small. Tables and chairs are dirty.

I’d easily say this place is better than Arctic Roadrunner. Its not like they’re competing but out of most local burger joints, this is the better. It was my first time so i was very pleased. It was busy but the food still came out fast enough. The prices are very fair and the food was done to standard. They have a kids meal which my little sister liked, the variety of food(hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, etc.) is awesome and the service was also good. This place gets major business and I can understand why. They’ve been around for so long and they make good food. It gets 4 stars for the overall experience because there was nothing negative to have. I didn’t feel gross after eating there and it filled me up for a reasonable price.

Great place. Small Freez is the size of Medium-sized at big name ice cream places. Had the equivalent of 4 Reeces cups in my small Freez. Maybe that’s why they sell tees up to 6XL!

I’ve driven by for the last two and half years since it’s just a minute or two from where I work. Decided to give it a whirl when a coworker suggested it for lunch. The service was excellent! The kids behind the counter do a really good job and are very courteous. I had a burger and fries. Nothing special, but the price was nice at just $ 5.60.

Great place to grab a quick burger and a shake. Has been here forever and has always employed local teenagers who are friendly and do a great job. In summer evening there is quite often a line out the door. Love this place!

I’ve only tried their soft serve, but it is worth the stop alone. It’s good, old-fashioned, soft serve perfection. Also, they donate a lot of time and services to charities. Sign of a great place.

It’s a really good place to eat out. They have a lot of options on their menu and it’s all affordable. The service is really nice, and although it is basically all teenagers working there, I wouldn’t let this discourage you. They are quick at prepping the food and desserts and they are friendly. I am probably biased because I used to come here when I was little, so now that I am in Alaska it’s become a little piece of nostalgia for me because it hasn’t changed much. I can’t really vouch for their food, but you can’t go wrong with their desserts so I’m sure it’s just as good.

My rating is based solely on this delicious chocolate dipped banana I just finished! Yum. They also have Nutter Butter shakes! Can you imagine? Anyways, I got myself quite a ways from downtown on my rental bike and camped out at this TF for a bit while I waited on my rescue ride(part of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail was ripped up without a detour route). It’s a family owned joint and the kids running the register and taking orders were really nice. If I hadn’t already had plans for reindeer sausage for lunch I would have certainly eaten here.

An excellent quick stop and great part of Alaskan history. Interested? Stop in and order a cheese burger, and read some of the articles they have posted on the wall, you’ll be surprised!
