The food is wonderful but the service is slow and the restaurant unimpressive. I would get it to go and many do.

Went there tonight, the Chicken Shawarma and Samosas are very good! And that green hot sauce they provide packs a decent punch, you’ll not leave disappointed! The restaurants décor is a little sub-par, but the food makes up for it and much more!

This place is awesome! I’ve never had this type of food before and was blown away. It’s perfect for takeout. Had the chicken Kay Kay and samosas, really yummy bread and a beef dish I have no idea what was. The staff was friendly. I wanted to go back the very next night. I will be enjoying this place at least once a week.

While eating here, I felt like I may not be experiencing the restaurant the best way. I will attempt to come back for dinner and perhaps add to my review. I came here on my lunch break one day and found myself to be the only diner in the restaurant. I ordered the chicken shawarma and the samosas, after hearing they were out of the falafel. The food took more than 20 minutes to arrive. When it did arrive, I was impressed by the portions, the $ 7 shawarma was huge, making the side of samosas unnecessary. The shawarma was pretty disappointing, the meat reminded me of not very well seasoned chicken fajita meat and it did not include the tomatoes/peppers that were described on the menu. I’m pretty sure there was just lettuce and a white sauce that was pretty bland. The samosas were greasy and the ground beef filing was pretty dry. The green sauce that came with it was super spicy and tasty, I dipped my wrap into this and thought it was a good combo. The guy who took my order at the counter was super friendly, but I liked the idea of this restaurant way more than the execution.

Our cabbie from Kenya told us about this place and SOO glad he did. Everything was great, from the chicken and beef kaykay to the Somali Tea. Delicious little hole in the wall. Server was not used to getting tips, so he was very appreciative(need cash to tip as there is no line on the cc slip for a tip).

I was so excited to try out African fare but was deeply disappointed… I parked my car in front of the old Coldstone Creamery and it looked like a grocery store from the outside. That should have been my first indication not to go in. I went in anyway determined to try something new and they only had a few tables and no customers in the store and it was dirty and everything seemed disorganized. The pictures that are posted on Unilocal look NOTHING like how the restaurant looks today. I decided to order out since I didn’t feel too comfortable being in there by myself. They gave me a menu and it only had a few things on it. I tried to order stuff I saw on Unilocal pictures of the menu and they didn’t have any of it. Then asked what they DID have and I’d base my choice off of that. I ended up getting the beef shawarma and a couple of samosas. The samosas were very yummy! The beef shawarma wrap would have tasted better if the meat wasn’t so tough.

My Friend from Kenya brought me to this place to try some authentic African fare. I was impressed with the food quality and quantity. It is flavorful and it hit the spot. I recommended this place to others as it is a diamond in the rough. The ambience and customer service is lacking but makes up for it in the food being served. I would come back when I have some free time.

I have been frequenting this hole in the wall African restaurant since they opened almost two years ago. The samosas, mandazi and Somali tea are awesome. A must have any time I am here. The rest of the menu is very limited. The best thing they have is the chicken shewarma. It’s a good sized portion and with the appetizers one can be enough to share between two. They put a good amount of meat in it too. For the price of $ 6.50 it’s incredible. The suqaar is OK but again a huge amount of food for a small price. My friend who usually comes here with me really likes it though so maybe my taste buds are spoiled from my own Middle Eastern background. About a year ago they added some aisles stocked with Middle Eastern groceries which adds an interesting flair to the place. Some people might not enjoy the atmosphere but don’t give up — I would still recommend their food for take out! Overall for the price and quality of food this is a solid 4 star for me.

The good: the crowd that hangs out there is friendly & a jovial community of men create the background noise. The bad: Just because someone cooks their homeland’s food does not mean they are a good cook. The spices were good, but the veg was literally frozen veggie medley dumped on a plate. The meats(goat, beef, chicken) were all substandard cuts and tough. The table service was virtually non-existent, so it occurred to us that maybe the regular peeps running the restaurant were on vaca & had asked a cousin to cover them. You’d be better off going to the other restaurant next to Bear Tooth or just picking up an African cookbook & giving it a go. The ugly: the décor. The view consists of shelves of ingredients for sale that you can purchase to make your own better versions of the dishes at home.

great food really enjoyed it. the menu is very limited with only four choices for dinner for choices for lunch. the amount of food and for how cheap it is is awesome. the atmosphere is lacking this is a dive restaurant, similar to anything you might find a third world country. I plan on going back many times. I give you a5 star because of the quality of the food for the price

We had Suqaar chicken, goat, somosas, and an order of anjeero. The vegetables offered in the Sugaar were peas and carrots you get in a frozen bag. My Sugaar was the kind of starchy fried rice feel but without the saltiness. The somosas were pretty solid. The goat was sad. Dried out bits of meat on large pieces of bone. The anjeero has the texture and taste of a fluffy pancake(none of the sour wonderfulness of Ethopian injera).

I adore hole in the walls; wish i could give this more stars. But this place seems to have been open since at least Mar and still is unfinished. Also, food took a long time. They didn’t really care that much to explain the menu to me either. Fortunately, the taste of the food was more credible. Chicken sugar was pretty good. Ate it with the injera(I know I spelled it wrong, but it was quite close to injera without the sourdough flavor. Can’t remember the spelling). If the prices were cheaper, it would give me more reason to return, but as is, there are better places to get better bang for your buck. I guess when I’m in the mood for goat, I might come back. Can’t imagine finding that anywhere else but here:)

Me be my boyfriend went to the dry cleaners to take his suit in and when we came out he saw safari restruant and said let give it a try what we have to loose?! Me being the type of person to try something at least once I said sure lets do it. I was surprise to see that it was the old cold stone but with it’s own twist to it. We ordered something that had chicken wrapped in a tortilla shell and it only cost 6.50 a piece I thought to myself ain’t no way in hell something that cost 6.50 could really taste soo good. Boy once we got home and opened the small take out box that’s smell hit is and it was so inviting we gobbled it all down it was a nice balance between hot and spicy ahh and I’m not one for hot food. Uh before we even finished we was talking about goin back there again. Take it from me it is really worth the try.

Just out of curiosity, I decided to stop by this evening after reading reviews from a couple of local papers. I ordered the samosas(2 for $ 3) and a chicken shawarma($ 5.99). The samosas had a flaky and crisp exterior while the filling was meaty and substantial. The shawarma was presented like a wrap and I was surprised by the size of the portion. It contained bits of chicken that were spiced moderately and assorted vegetables such as lettuce, onion, banana peppers, and jalapeño peppers. It also had a cool and creamy tahini sauce that really sealed the deal. Lastly, we were given a small container of a green-hued hot sauce that packed quite a punch. I will gladly return to try the other menu items, and as long as you don’t mind the temporary décor of the place, I would recommend giving these friendly people your business.

Authentic atmosphere, who cares about the décor. The food is amazing. You don’t have to be too adventurous to like what they offer. Nothing too weird. Try the samosas and mandazi as appetizers. We were floored at how good these were. The Somali coffee was a great complement – it’s sweet like a chai latte. We let the waitress order our entrees for us and she did not disappoint! Hoping to make this place a regular haunt. They deliver, too!
