We accepted an estimate from Greatland Tree Service to take down 6 trees in our back yard for $ 1300. They said they could do this work on the following Friday. When that day came we waited until a little past noon and decided to give Greatland a call to see when they would show up to take down our trees. The woman who answered told my spouse she was very sorry but their chipper broke the night before and they could not do the work that day. He asked why we didn’t receive a call from them and why we had to call them to find out there was a problem. She apologized several times and said that she had failed to call us. My spouse rescheduled the job for the following Monday but I was very upset that our day and plans with others to help us deal with the yard and wood were totally messed up. We even had a boat moved from the yard late on Thursday evening to make it possible for this job to be done. I called Greatland and let them know what an inconvenience this was for us not to have this work done today but that I understand that equipment goes down… But again I asked why I didn’t immediately receive a call from them when they knew their chipper was down and they couldn’t do the work. The woman apologized again to me and then I talked with the owner David to let him know how much it inconvenienced us and how terrible it is for us to have to call them to find out they were not coming to do the work that day. David seemed frustrated and more concerned about getting his chipper fixed than making sure that his customers were taken care of. On the following Monday I called Greatland Tree Service and cancelled this job… Companies that don’t care about customers enough to call them when they have a problem and can’t do the job don’t deserve my business. David needs to get a back-up plan for when problems arise. The first thing would be CALLTHECUSTOMER! Then go rent a chipper … I talked with others in this service industry and they agreed that Greatland had poor business practices in this instance and they need to GET A PLAN for when equipment/problems arise.
