Came to this place with a few friends on a Friday night after shopping at 5th Avenue mall. Service is slow. Food is salty. Drinks are watery. DJ speaker sucks. Not worth it.

Yom! delicious! Tried the Park Strip vegetarian pizza! instant classic. Nice change of pace from the usual pizza joints in Anchorage, like the Tooth. Bar scene is fun on a Friday, or weekend — though it can be a little intense after 7 pm. Even still, the servers /bartenders are very accommodating. This place passes with A+

The food is just ok, we ordered pizza., atmosphere good, waitress staff let me begin… we came after an event downtown. It was a busy night but we got a table and ordered two pizzas. The first one came and we asked the waitress where the second pizza was, she said(like it was a normal occurrence) the second pizza was given to another table She stated the second pizza would be re-ordered. Meanwhile the first pizza was already gone, and the other half of the table was waiting for their pizza. About 45 minutes later we finally decided we didn’t even want the second pizza and we were just going to leave. We were trying to find the waitress to tell her and a member of our table found her and she stated«only 3 more minutes. About an hour after the first pizza she came out with the second, placing it on the table stating«I told you it was only going to be 3 minutes» A member at our table kindly stated I hope we don’t have to pay for this pizza after waiting for almost 2 hours. The waitress named Fiona proceeded to go off on us about how busy she was and it wasn’t her fault. We kindly stated that we understood it wasn’t her fault that the pizza was late but that is wasn’t acceptable. This waitress proceeded to be very rude, so much that the table behind us was astonished on the waitress’s behavior. During this whole scenario our drinks were empty and she never once asked us if we wanted a refill. We understand that these circumstances can happen on a busy night, but her reaction to the situation was un called for. The night manager handled the situation well and our second pizza was taken care of.(which we didn’t even want) Needless to say we will not be returning back to this place anytime soon!

I’ve been here often enough that I can confidently say this is probably a solid three-star experience. There is nothing noteworthy about this place nor is it a craphole. That being said, it is a little disappointing that at-a-glance, this establishment looks pretty spectacular since it’s new and positioned on a fantastic corner in the heart of downtown. And, since it’s owned by a long-standing restauranteur, you’d think they’d be able to easily iron out the kinks. Notable experiences include: * Going to lunch with a group of six other people, when it was not very busy at all. It took 45 minutes from ordering to get our food, so we had to scarf it down since most of us had only an hour break during a training class. Three orders were messed up, including my pizza that had raw garlic(the type you get from the plastic container at Costco) smeared on top instead of the advertised roasted garlic. One order hadn’t even been entered at all. The waiter was super disinterested and a terrible server. I can count on one hand how many times in my life that I gave a 10% or even 0% tip to a server. This was one of them. * Coming to the bar for Skinny Raven pub runs. In the beginning, the offerings for the pub run discounted appetizers were really good and one of the main reasons why I would go. They have since made the offerings only three rotating items, usually always the same pepperoni-bread or meaty snacks. This is the only time garlic knots are worth the price. * Having some really awesome service from a waitress who offered me a couple samples of beer to try when I couldn’t make up my mind, even though it was really busy. * Sitting at the tiny, Petri dish-sized tables alongside the windows and trying to orchestrate the consumption of beers and a few small appetizers between two or three people. Avoid getting speared by pool sticks, if you can. * Being greeted by surprisingly friendly bouncers later in the evening. * Not being disappointed by their hummus, EXCEPT good lord, get rid of those rubbery black olives and get real kalamata olives like another reviewer suggested. This is one menu item that is great and definitely worth the price. But plz no black olives plz :| I don’t go out of my way to make a special trip to go to Flattop. I’ll go if it’s convenient. I do hope that they become a place I do crave and that they make themselves more appealing as well as improve some of their food offerings. Edit: Day after I posted this review, I actually ended up swinging by Flat Top and the garlic knots are only $ 4 on the menu. I retract my earlier statement. $ 4 is definitely reasonable for garlic knots. They also had some new stuff on their menu and some new items for the pub run special. They were really, really good and reasonable prices. Our server was great. Upgrading to another star. I am impressed with the improvements.

Had the worst Caesar salad I’ve ever had in my life. How do you mess that up? The dressing was so watery and had no flavor. Gross pizza bite things that looked like they were on bisquick muffins thrown in the microwave with a thin slab of pepporoni. Flavorless pizza with rubbery chicken that tasted microwaved. Yuck! They couldn’t even give me hot water. And on top of it all, served by some snob who could care less. Yuck.

Out of all of the pizza places in Anchorage this one isn’t the worst, but it isn’t the best either. This bar is located in the heart of downtown Anchorage and can get a bit packed on Friday and Saturday nights. The rest of the time though, it’s typically not too loud and you can find a seat pretty easily. It’s open seating– so don’t wait to be seated. Go in and find yourself a spot. We’ve been here multiple times and are always greeted by a waiter with menus within a few short minutes. They’re very prompt at serving tables. Other reviews have mentioned that this place has poor customer service, but I’ve never experienced that myself. Everyone I’ve been served by here has always been very nice and professional. This Veteran’s Day I took my boyfriend and two other military boys here to eat. I’m not sure if the bartender intentionally gave them free shots because he knew they were military– or he was just bored and wanted to do something. Needless to say our table of four got free shots. Two of us were designated drivers, so the other two got two shots each. Either way, it was a nice gesture and it made the service stick out. On top of that we’ve always had really happy waiters who are well-informed on the menu. The menu is pretty basic. Just an array of pizzas, but nothing special. I advise against ordering the garlic knots. As one other reviewer mentioned– you only receive three knots. It’s an extremely small portion for the $ 7.00 you’re paying, and no where on the menu does it tell you that you’re getting such a little amount of food. We had to split three small pieces of bread between four people. Kind of embarrassing on my part, because I ordered the food. Other than that the pizza is good. The crust is crispy and thick– but not ‘pan thickness’. The toppings are usually packed on pretty thickly, there’s a thin layer of sauce, and a good layer of cheese. The pizza can get a bit greasy depending on what toppings you order. My favorite at this establishment is their Hawaiian pizza. They just do it really well– and out of all of the places I’ve tried in Anchorage, this one masters that flavor. On the other hand, their pizzas in general don’t particularly stand out to me. I’m not a huge fan of their crust and I’ve never had a pizza that truly ‘wowed me’ here. The place does have TVs and if you go on a game night you’re likely to get a pretty good seat– as it’s not really advertised as a sports bar. There’s some neat pool tables as well– so if you enjoy that sort of thing, this is a good place to do so. They have a lot of room around them, so you won’t get crowded in. The eating is good and it can be a fun place to go with friends on a Friday or Saturday night. They’ve had good service with me and their pizza is decent. Some appetizers are overpriced and they only have two not-so-great dessert options(I’m a dessert lover– so this is a big deal to me). It’s a great place to hang out, and I’ll definitely go back. On the other hand, there’s nothing special about this place that rates it really highly in my book.

Pretty fun pool bar in Anchorage, we ended up here on several occasions during our trip. Depending on the night, pool ran from $ 5-$ 10/hour. On Tuesday nights they have a free pool tournament which was a lot of fun. Drinks are a bit pricey, as is everything in that city though. Service is friendly and it’s a fun atmosphere with a live dj.

Below average service. I’ve been here three times and I will not go back nor recommend Flattop to anyone I like. To be more specific, it is slow and the waiters/waitresses are clueless. I ordered a salad and a pizza and was never given silverware. I had to ask my waitress 3 times until she had someone else finally bring it to me with attitude. My final time at Flattop was when I was trying to order a drink at the bar and stood around for 15 – 20 minutes(they saw me standing there but no acknowledgement). When I pulled my debit card out to get the bartenders attention, they told me «That is not how you get service around here.» And proceeded to walk away without helping me.

Hands down the rudest bartenders and waitstaff I have ever had to deal with. Food took forever to get to us and that was after politely bugging our waitress a couple of times. My wife was attempting to get a drink at the bar and was ignored for a long time until finally a bartender told her«you’re cute but that’s not how you get f***ing service.» We left and will never come back. I’ve made sure to let all my friends and coworkers know to never step foot in here.

Good pizza. Casual clean atmosphere. Friendly service. Three pool tables and sports TV. More a later night hangout.

LOUD. That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think about Flattop(the pizza place, not the mountain). I don’t really mind, I like how this place seems to have an upbeat energy, even late at night… in the winter… on a weekday. I also appreciate that they are often open late and still serving food. In Anchorage, if you want to eat non-fast-food after 10pm, you’re pretty much hosed. The pizza: it’s alright. Nothing really to complain about, but nothing outstanding about it either. The tap selection is above average. Come here if you want to play pool or eat late.

In short. Sub-par service. Good menu if it could be implemented. Note though kitchen staff was in training. I walked in here on a Saturday night. Place was not crowded. I was one of maybe six at the bar. No greeting from the bar tender. After five min. of waiting had to flag down for a menu. Then finally a drink order. Then after 10 minutes«oh you want food». Menu looks good. Creative pizza and more. By the time my veg and hummus pie came out i could have ordered from delivery eaten and left. They apologized for the wait but i told em the veg on the pie are raw not roasted. I hope this place makes it. There is a lot of potential.

So I stopped by this wonderful location one day while I was working so we took something to go… I had heard great things about this place and one was on point! First of all the service was fantastic & the atmosphere was cool. We ordered a ½ & ½ pizza and it was just blah… kind of soggy, and not anything to go back for. We also got the«knots» they were as hard as a rock totally inedible and only three knots so again nothing to go back for. All in all they get points for service and atmosphere but zero points for the food.

I always have fun here. It’s a great spot to start your night and play a game of pool. They keep the kitchen open late, which is clutch when you’re hungry after a night on the town. You can order pizza by the slice and each slice is HUGE(about a quarter of a pie). Flattop is also a great place to watch a game, as they have a bunch of TVs and its not known for being a sports bar so you can typically get a good seat. I would give them 5 stars, however the bartenders tend to be slow with taking drink orders, even when its not crowded.

When flat top first opened, I took the two coolest cats I know — Father #1, and Father #2. It was Father’s day — I did some group deal where we got 2 pool tables for 2 hours, 4 large pizzas and a few pitchers of beer, which easily covered both families in a large party of 10+. The fathers happily gulped beer, sparred at pool, and we loved the more eclectic pizza choices. Service was prompt and friendly. Since, I have enjoyed a random drink or two at the bar, playing a few rounds of pool and overall, appreciated the extended business venture of Humpy’s. Some complaints have been aimed at the pizza, but I really like it! I loved the Big Kahuna, very savory and sweet. I also love Powerline Pass — an über meat lovers pizza, but they balance the pie well, with red tomato sauce and spicy/salty meats. The crust of powerline pass was brushed with roasted garlic oil and I lingered on every bite. Skip the hummus, I wasn’t too impressed. They seem to focus on various event nights to draw certain crowds(so beware if you are a 30-professional something not keen on college night). They participate in Tuesday pub runs and in 2014 had Game of Thrones nights that have sadly ended entering season 5. Ambiance is industrial driven — tall, exposed ceiling structure, polished concrete, lots of glass. all in all, a fun place for Alaskan friends to meet with good food to boot.

I’ve come a few times now and do like this establishment for pool and eats while downtown. A couple of times I’ve paid $ 22 for playing pool and recently paid $ 48, with little increase of time. Not sure if it was a price hike or what, but ouch! My friend usually gets the pizza rolls and I the hummous. I have to say I harbor an extreme dislike for black olives and do not understand why this place can’t get kalamata as a side as Humpy’s does around the corner. One downside to playing here are the barhoppers who come and go in waves and make playing difficult; stop playing pool at 10PM and you should be fine. Another thing to note is that the pool tab is attached to the overall bar tab. They should really keep the pool tab separate from the food and drink. Anyways, it’s close to my friend’s house so we come here when we want to kill time and catch up. Will come again but will watch the pool tab and time, as well as ask for kalamata olives instead of black next time I order hummous. ***Update. They do not have any black olives in the house and nixed going to Humpy’s for them. Bear Tooth Grill would. Oh well, I’ll still order it again.***

I stopped in on a whim for a late evening drink with a friend, I hadn’t been yet and wanted to check it out. The bartender was friendly and enjoyed joking around with us. He gave us a little insight on how the place was in the summer, which I guess is packed with tourists, I’m interested in checking out the scene come tourist season for some good people watching, based on the stories he told us. All in all, they have a pretty good selection of beers and mixed drinks. I liked my evening adventure so much I came back a couple days later for lunch. Their lunch special is actually an AMAZINGLY good deal, for how much food you get! $ 4.50 for one massive slice of pizza with up to 5 toppings(sauce and the basic layer of cheese do NOT count towards your five)! They also have a $ 4.50 lunch special on their house green salad, again a pretty good size salad for the cost! I’m not holding the slow lunch service to them this time, they only had one server and it got really busy really fast. When she finally got around to us she said it was pretty unexpected lunch rush. I was also watching the Barcelona v Man City game on one of the TVs, so it didn’t the business and her being overwhelmed didn’t really bother me at all!

I appreciate that this place is clean for a pseudo-sports bar. I’m the type of girl who won’t eat her pizza crust if it’s not great. That being said, I love the crust here. There was one bad incident when ordering the ‘Park Strip’ pizza; the menu states roasted garlic, but they used fresh pressed, uncooked garlic and it was very strong. I had to scrape off quite a bit to make it edible(and that’s a lot, because I love garlic). Other pizza’s I’ve tried have been excellent. Flattop also seems a little understaffed at lunch and has an awkward layout for it’s bartenders who have to walk around the entire bar to take orders and drop off food and beer. It makes the order and wait time a bit long, but they make up for it with good beers on tap.

Definitely a college bar(albeit cleaner and nicer than most), but we enjoyed the epic local pro snowboarder video they were playing on the numerous flat screens while we had beers. I lost my hat the big before at Humpy’s and the bouncer at Flattop works both and remembered me and had found my hat. That saved the end of my trip, because it was our last night and I was really sad about it. We only had some seasonal amber ales, but the food the people at the bar next to us looked amazing. This place is totally roomy and a great hangout if you have a couple friends with different interests(ie numerous pool tables and shuffle board). On the main strip, this bar is in the thick of things, right between Sub Zero Bistro and Humpy’s). If you are having a night out on the town, you should really stop in here.
