Worst ever. No wonder this company faded into Bankruptcy. After being accosted upon entry to buy a cell phone, when I went to pay for the parts I had, I was told«We dont honor the price on the web, cause we’re not owned by Radio Shack any longer. But you sure you don’t need a Sprint cell phone?». Nope. Never again, and I will watch gleefully as the«new» Radio Shack slides into bankruptcy as a «cell phone store»

I was looking for a Zagg Invisibleshield for my phone, and found it there when the store just opened. There appears to be only one person at the register, but the place doesn’t seem like it would be too busy. They give out discounts for college students and military as long as you show identification. They have plenty of phones, accessories, headsets, chargers, video output adapters, external battery packs, and much more. My screen protector was $ 3 more than it is online, but getting it right away beats waiting five days for an Amazon shipment through USPS.

Soldering irons might be just as old fashioned as slaughtering a calf for this week’s suppers. When I was a kid, my father had a Weller D-207 soldering iron we called«Black Beauty.» She was every kid’s dream– heavy, dangerous, and forbidden to us. Once plugged in, she could heat up the bare metal protruding from her to a delirious white hot capable of melting any furniture in the house. For the record, that was my brother who did that, not me… in case my Mother is reading this. The opulent heft of Black Beauty is gone, replaced by more streamlined, dainty irons sold at Radio Shack. The Shack is actually cool! Most of the storefront is consumed with high-margin items, especially phones. Boring. But the back isle of the Shack is densely packed with cool project stuff, like wire, fuses, capacitors, and even some project mini boards filled with holes to fit any micro-controller or thermistor. To be soldered, naturally. Project geeks and kit builders still use irons today, like for model airplanes and boats, or to teach grandchildren that electronic gadgets have parts and are not magic. I think Black Beauty would melt the table underneath your model boat of today. But if I needed a diode in a hurry, or a dainty soldering iron, I would hit the Shack before going online.
