Love that this place now exists in Amana. There used to be a casual eatery called Rose and Thorn in Amana but it closed a few years ago. Finally there is another casual eatery with great food. They don’t have a bar(like Rose and Thorn) but they do have a coffee shop right next to it in the same building(called Serena’s). I’ve worked for the Old Creamery Theatre on and off for several years and this is right across the street from their new rehearsal space so you might hear them rehearsing if you sit outside. The pizza is delicious but my favorite is the grilled cheese with added jalapeños! Can’t wait to go back when I come back to Amana!

Hands down the best pizza I’ve ever had. Literally. I’m a HUUUUGE pizza fan too. These guys, WOW. The raspberry pork. GOODLORD. We are only going to be here for another 3 months, and back to the West Coast we go. Hopefully I can order from afar!

Order and pay at the counter, seat yourself. Pizzas are small– 10 or 12″ round. Thin crust. We ordered 3 pizzas for 6 people to share, and I would maybe recommend 4 for this size group in the future. I don’t remember if they have a soda machine, everyone in my group purchased bottled drinks– locally(as in, a couple blocks away!) brewed beer, root beer, and cream soda. We were looking for someplace to eat that was open past dusk, without having to go into Coralville or Iowa City. PHAT Daddy’s is open later(by an hour, I think) than every other place we considered. There is a porch for patio seating, and I’m disappointed that we ate inside– I love patios! :) I look forward to returning.

P.H.A.T Daddy has a nice cozy location in the Amana colony, great homely environment and great tasting pizza sandwiches! First time there and was well worth the open fire cooked sandwiches. Will be coming again.

We’ve known about phat daddy’s for a long time, while I was up in Marengo, however it was always just a little bit too far away to justify the trip. No longer will we be torn between delicious food and additional mileage on our car! Situated in a shared space with Serena’s coffee shop, this place is serving up some really legit food and is finally at a location where there going to be getting a lot of foot traffic. They apparently relocated to the Amana Colonies within the last year and it sounds like they’re enjoying the move. We came in on a weekend when we were hanging out at the Tannenbaum forest and doing a little Christmas shopping. We were ecstatic with what we found. The menu consists of a dozen or so flatbread, brick oven pizzas, sandwiches and side dishes. The pizzas range from the familiar to incredibly creative, but still within the realm of something you try. The number of the offerings reminded me of pizza versions of zombie burger menu items. Perhaps the most intriguing was the bacon macaroni and cheese pizza. We didn’t venture there, but it sure did look good. What we did have was the Cubano, and it was one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had. It had a mustard based sauce the provided a really good flavor, some delicious meat and pickles on top. We were a little bit skeptical to begin, but this thing was absolutely incredible! We also had a side of bacon mac and cheese — not as mind blowing, but still very good. Our little guy was in the mood for some grilled cheese and tomato soup, which was Boss! This was the first time I’ve ever had, or seen what appeared to be a wood– fire grilled, grilled cheese sandwich. Thick bread, good cheese and just a little bit of char — I would eat that for every meal! The soup was delicious too! All in all, a great spot to grab some delicious food while bumming around the Amana Colonies. This is going to become a regular spot for us when we visit up here! In addition, they get extra points for all of the bacon that is incorporated into their cooking. This is a must check out place for anybody up in the area and somewhere that you’ll probably like too!

Had the chicken wings and they came out looking like they were boiled. Also were in watery mild sauce. Worst wings I have ever had. My wife ordered a soup n it was at best warm. Pizzas looked good but I may have to pass on this place for awhile

Very tasty thin crust wood fire oven pizza. There were just as many special pizzas in the chalk board as standard ones, including the asparagus pizza we ordered and enjoyed. The chicken noodle soup, served in a no frills paper bowl, was hearty and delicious. The restaurant is counter service with called numbers, sharing a seating area with a local coffee shop & deli. Local beer and wine available, all by the bottle.
