«The Campus,» as it’s known here in Altoona, is a very well-rounded facility. I’ve been around the gym block a few times, and I’d definitely recommend this one to anyone in the area. Good things: — Space. As a former YMCA, this building is pretty huge, and thus allows for a large capacity of clients, machines, tracks, and even a children’s daycare. I’m huge on not being super close to other people when I work out, and I’ve never felt personally invaded when working out on a machine, doing weights, or on the track. — Pool. Self explanatory, but I’ve also never used this, so I can’t speak to its cleanliness or details. — People. For the most part, the people that go here are your usual Altoonites. Older folks, younger teens, moms, dads, and children. Everyone is pretty friendly and for the most part, you won’t get any of that«Golds Gym» grunting action here. — Pretty reasonable membership rates, and they partner with many companies for discounts. Not-so-great(but not terrible) things: — There is no really good place to stretch. There are a few small random places around, but I do wish there was a larger space that was specifically designated for stretching/core work(with mirrors) other than the spinning room when not already occupied. — It’s hard to find equipment like kettle balls, resistance bands, etc. Other than those two very small things, The Campus is great!

Always a friendly face anywhere you go. Staff and instructors are all super nice. Indoor pool is always clean with attentive lifeguards. Elevated track is amazing! Machines are all up to date and Polar. Various classes and schedules, always something to get involved in and the members are more than welcoming. Child care is a huge bonus for people with children. The staff working with the kids keep them busy with all sorts of toys, activities, games and when the weather is nice they take them outside to play on their equipment. Worth every penny! There are lockers everywhere, not just the locker rooms. There are three locker rooms total. Men, women and family. Family rooms are three separate rooms with a lockable door, a shower, stool, sink and a bench. Perfect with kids, one door leads to the main hall while the other leads to the pool. Women’s locker room is a maze of tall lockers with long benches to sit on or rest your belongings. Two sinks, 4 stalls, two hand dryers, one is up higher to be used for your hair. Showers with curtains and a machine that wrings out your suit if you go for a swim or take water aerobics. This place is clean and efficiently run. Someone is always cleaning or putting away«sweat» towels(they provide those too!).
