THEY’RECLOSED. I’m super sad b/c the food here was soooo delicious!!! The best things are the jalapeño poppers and the coconut shrimp tacos. And now I will never have them again…

I am pretty sure this restaurant closed abruptly as in gone out of business. We LOVED eating here and are sad to see it go.

We were hungry, and wanted to hear some music, so we decided to try this place for date night. Upon arrival, the music was pumping and the place smelled like it had good food. The dining room was closed, so we had to sit in a booth with a small round table in front of it. The seats in that area are kinda awkward and uncomfortable, but we were really hungry, so we dealt with it. I started off with a patron margarita for $ 11.99. It was okay, but I felt like it could have been less sweet, and a little stronger. I would not order this again. I ordered the steak/shrimp fajitas, and my boyfriend ordered a taco combination. I had to send my food back because they gave me chicken instead of shrimp the first time. I get a little annoyed when the waitress/waiter tries to memorize your order. Just use a damn note pad! When my food returned, my steak was overcooked. By that time, I just gave up and ate the food which turned out to be very tasty. The food was fresh and seasoned well. Overall, I think that Tres Hermanas is okay. With a little tweeking, this place has the potential to be really good if they can improve service, make consistent strong drinks, and update their décor.

This was my first time visiting since they had changed from Mango Mikes. I had a little table in the corner and ordered drinks. It would be great if my waitress were more attentive — I’d been sitting there for a while after receiving my drink and an app, and she had yet to come and check on me. In fact, another waitress was gracious enough to offer me a box and get me another drink before HH ended. If I could have given her the tip, I would have. Don’t get me wrong, my original waitress was very nice bit she’s only been to my table twice in the hour and some change I’d been dining here.

As I sit here writing this, I’m desperately craving one of their chimichangas. It’s a HUGE plate of food and the sauce is amazing! I’m had the chicken and the beef, and I’m not sure which one I like more! Nom! I can’t say I’ve had everything on the menu yet, but you MUST try their Jalapeño Poppers! They are unlike anyone else’s. They are sliced down the middle and wrapped in bacon. Simply amazing! Also, they have an extensive beer and tequila collection. So if you like awesome food and fun night out, you should stop in and check them out!

My boyfriend and I looooove this place! Happened upon it one day: the atmosphere is great; the waitstaff is warm and friendly; the food has great portions, excellent taste, and fresh ingredients, not to mention, it’s fast! Only downside is the short hours for this winter!

Meh. I came here with my sis tonight because we pass by it often and wanted to check it out post-Mango Mike’s. This is based on happy hour: The food was decent but I don’t know that I would categorize it as ‘authentic’ Mexican. We ordered the mini burritos, which actually were a good portion for the happy hour special and the beef was very tender and flavorful. The guacamole we ordered lacked flavor, but you could tell it was fresh. The chicken tortilla soup also lacked flavor and spice. I would honestly have to say the chicken tortilla soup that I make from scratch is way better — and I’m a white girl from Virginia. My sis had the pulled pork tacos and she said they were pretty good. The chips also come with three types of salsa — chipotle, verde, and some other variety with corn. The service was mediocre at best. Our server never even brought us water and we barely even saw her the entire time. We had to ask a hostess for our check! Now, I will say they have good happy hour drink prices! $ 2.95 for wine and canned beers and $ 3.95 margaritas! I’d definitely come back for the drinks and I’d like to try an actual dish, but I think I’ll stick to Los Toltecos for my authentic Mexican fix in the area.

I liked the nachos and fish tacos. Husband did not like the steak burritos. He said it was cheap meat and chewy, not tender. I guess this place is ok. We never really liked it when it was Mango Mike’s, and were disappointed to hear it was still the same owners or management. Was hoping it was actually run by Latinos and a new family business. Uh, I don’t know if we’ll ever come back. Not really into Mexican food, but it’s a festive place, even though it is really dark inside.

This was my first time trying this restaurant since it changed from Mango Mike’s. The service was great and the food was delicious; I had the chicken and chorizo fajitas and the banana pudding cake was amazing… There are some pieces of decorum that are Mango Mike-ish that should be changed to be more Mexican themed.

New place, with a long family history in the restaurant business, but they’ve got a ways to go. The food was good to very good. I had coconut shrimp tacos, in the style of fish tacos. The typical lime sauce was replaced with a mango sauce. It was sweet, but it went well with the coconut shrimp. We also tried the chicken fajitas. They were also very good. Serve sizzling as they should be, the plate of extras leaves many other places in the dust — A nice selection. The chips & salsa — I like the chips — and the selection of 3 salsas kept it interesting. One of the red’s I was a huge fan of, but the only green not so much. Even not being a fan, though, the choice of three kept the from getting boring. The bar, however, and their«original» margaritas — not so good. They tasted like they were made with Rum instead of Tequila. It was the sweetest margarita I’ve ever tasted. We sent ours back and settled on beers. We noticed other patrons explaining problems with their meal to the waiters. We had no such problem with the food, and it’s the food that we’ll return back for. We were huge fans of Dancing Peppers, just a block or so down the street, and when it was replaced with Los Toltecos, we have since been disappointed with the Mexican choices in the West End. It’s a decent start. Fix the margaritas and iron out some other small issues, and it will go to a 4 star review.

We’ve been looking for a good Mexican restaurant in Alexandria since we moved here in 2005. Finally, it looks like we found one. Three salsas with the chips — tomatillo, a smoky red, and«regular» — all very good. Frozen margarita was excellent. The pinarita(a piña colada with tequila) was awesome. Just what we needed on this hot day. Carnitas and beef tacos were plentiful and delicious. Kids meals looked good, too, but the kids went ahead and finished those. Fresh tasting. Nicely redone interior(it’s the old Mango Mike’s space). We can’t wait to come back. Give it a try. We’re glad we did.

As an Alexandrian, I like local businesses to succeed. And while I never enjoyed Mango Mike’s while it was around, it would be nice to see Tres Hermanas thrive under his daughter’s care. But they’ve got a ways yet to go. The frozen Original Margaritas with homemade lime mix were so cloyingly sweet they made my teeth ache and contained no detectable trace of tequila. I sent mine back after a few sips, replacing it with a beer, while my dining companions inexplicably soldiered on. As I lifted my glass to tell the server what was wrong, she said, «Too sweet?» before I could get the words out. Clearly, I’m not the first to lodge this complaint. When my friend opted for the Red Sangria for her second round — thinking it couldn’t be as sweet as the margaritas, which are *all* made with that same lime mix — she sent hers back immediately. It had an off-putting odor and a chemical taste. Chips(I’m guessing from a bag) arrived with a trio of salsas which seemed promising. The salsas were tasty, although a bit more variety in textures and heat levels might be nice. Our Grilled Oyster appetizer was so drowned in the accompanying mango salsa that we had to scrape the majority of it off before slurping the admittedly fresh oysters. The mango salsa was also entirely too sweet and one note. Husband and I split an order of Veggie Fajitas, tempted by the promise of portabellas, black beans, corn, and cabbage in addition to the usual fajita suspects of peppers and onions. The platter arrived completely devoid of the ‘shrooms, and we had to wait while the server returned to the kitchen to fix the problem. Once we were finally able to assemble a proper tortilla, it turned out the veg were fairly bland and underwhelming. Accompanying rice and beans lacked seasoning all around. The flour tortillas were thick and soft, however, with nice charred grill marks, and the guac was fresh(albeit scant). With two drink missteps and a fajita snafu, one would think management would get involved, but no one other than our server came to check in with us about our experience. We’d even spotted Mango Mike’s offspring herself, walking around showing off the dining room to friends, chatting about her father, so we knew she was in house. In retrospect, I should have asked for a manager myself. Overall, we were disappointed by our first encounter with Tres Hermanas. I love a good Mexican meal and was so hoping this spot would bring something new to the proverbial table for us West Enders. I’m willing to allow time to iron out the newbie wrinkles, though, and return in a few months for another try. The revamped décor and affordable price points are appealing; so with some much needed menu adjustments, Tres Hermanas could really get a good thing going.

I and my girlfriend tried this new mexican restaurant called tres hermanas(three sisters). This restaurant is in very good location near to the apartments and foxchase plaza. we sat on one of the table in patio and even the view was kinda blocked with all the trees it was nice to feel the fresh air. so i ordered tortilla stuffed chicken and it was very pretty and sauce was lil spicy but good and i dont know if comes with tortilla or not its good to get one with girlfriend ordered chicken chimichanga I guess that was the pardon me if i am wrong anyways she didnt like it much stuffed chicken was kind of cold and sauce was bland. The service was good and our waitress made sure we were taken care. Even though patio are sometimes easily forgetten by the servers. Talking about inside décor this place is spacious however they might need to work on thier floors. All in all this place is cozy and perfect for people looking for nothing but decent mexican cuisine we are happy that we found this place and we are looking forward to go thier again.

«Steak» Taco is cooked pulled beef. Replaced for Flank«Steak» Chimichanga, owner was nice enough to tell me it was ALSO pulled beef. Only grilled steak was the Fajita platter, and it was just ok, all 3 Salsas taste weird, and the chips are oily meh.

Always wanted to try this place while driving by the shopping center across the street. Finally had a moment to stop by and caught them during happy hour Friday. What a treat the interior is beautifully done transporting you to an idyllic paradise. The house margarita hit the spot during a warm summer August afternoon … Only $ 5 for now … Go!

New restaurant, just opened up, taking over a location — one would think they are going to put their best foot forward. TRESHERMANAS — three sisters — how warm and fuzzy. I am looking forward to a family-style, mom and pop, warm hospitable environment! Wow, do we need that in the West End of Alexandria, VA. This will be awesome. I can’t wait to meet the sisters and hear their story. Where are they from? This is going to be great! And if this is their best performance, ouch. We walk in the restaurant. There is music blaring from the bar area. We have to walk well into the restaurant to get to the greeters stand. We request to be seated outside. We have to walk though the blaring music to get outside. Thank goodness the music from the bar did not overflow onto the deck. Well, there was no music at all on the deck. When we were taken to our table we had to duck under a banana plant as it was sticking out. If not for the table that was close to the banana plant, perhaps we could have gone around the plant without having to duck. But, it was definitely in the way. The server was nice enough. She brought us chips and salsa — an assortment of salsas — how nice!!! Oh, but there was salsa all over the place, it was on the side of the bowls and even on the caddy. [Oh, and the caddy has a nice decorative handle that hangs over one of the bowls making it hard to scope with out making a mess.] The server assumed that it was going to take us a while to determine what were going to drink and told us she would come back to get out drink order. Hmm. Perhaps she could have guided us a bit and try to sell us something. The drink menu was void of pricing — well, expect for the happy hour pricing [and we were there on a Sunday afternoon/evening which was not happy hour]. We asked what the price of the drinks were and the server had to leave us to go find out… Argh. There was a man waking aimlessly around with a blue shirt on… Creeping around. I asked if she could describe the«borracho beans.» She said, «Well, basically they are red beans. Do you want me to bring you a sampling?» Again, I asked is she could describe them… Her reply: «No.» I am allergic to pork. I wanted to find out how the beans were made and if they had any pork in them. Her response, quite frankly, was rude. As it turns out the borracho beans are pinto, not red beans, and made with pork. The others at the table had some and indicated that they were«eh, okay.» As I normally do, I asked the server to give me a recommendation between two different dishes. In this case between the«Chicken Enchilada Verdes» [sic] and the«3 Chicken Tacos.» Emphatically, she recommended the enchiladas. I ordered them. The menu description of the«Chicken Enchilada Verdes» [sic] is: «A Mexican classic: warm tortillas stuffed with chicken, onions and tomatillos topped with creamy cheese and a kickin’ salsa verde.» Note: there is no mention of the borracho beans — or rice either… When our food came out, the runner auctioned off the food. In doing so, auctioned off the«cheese enchiladas.» Hmm. Well, to my surprise, there were beans and rice on the plate. Not only that, but there was a ton of cheese oozing all over the plate and no «kickin’ salsa verde.» And, this is on the«Chicken Enchilada Verdes» [sic]. That man in the blue shirt creeped around again. I made a comment to the runner. He came back and told me that the chef told him that he put the sauce inside the enchiladas. Not exactly the way it was described on the menu. Well, I cut into the enchiladas. There was no sign of the«kickin’ salsa verde.» The chicken was bland, dry, and quite frankly tasted a hit of smoke or pork… Not exactly appetizing. They brought us some of the verde sauce — and it was kickin’… A little thick, actually seemed to be the dipping sauce for the tortilla chips heated up. It did taste better heated up. Yet, it really did not seem to be house made. Not enough room here to talk about the other food… Suffice to say, well… In the end, the server came and offered to swap out my plate. I accepted. I asked for soft corn tortillas with my tacos. Wow, what a disappointment. The tortillas were raw, dry, and unappetizing. They did give me two tortillas per taco. That was the highlight!!! They did that right!!! However, when the server took away my enchiladas, she also took away my flatware. When she brought the tacos, there was no flatware. Oh, and the chicken, it was the same, bland, dry, and disappointing chicken. That man in the blue shirt walked by again. I noticed that he had a logo embroidered on his shirt — oh, my — it seems as though he must be the manager. I never noticed him talk to any of the table — or any of the service staff for that matter. He just meandered around and in a creeping fashion. Alas, we did not see any of the TRESHERMANAS. Not a hint of them. Oh, and the sign says«taqueria» — yet, I have to say, the tacos we had were far from being stars.

Mango Mike’s is gone for now. Tres Hermanas is so new, we have to give it a little time to grow into what they can be. Don’t judge to harshly… help them along their way. Provide feedback that can make this place, your place… our place. Let it grow… hey wait… The cheese glows white on the nachos tonight Not an olive to be seen I know you miss Mango Mikes And it looks like just a dream. The servers are hovering like burrito that’s inside Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried! Don’t let them fail, please let them see Be the Mexican joint you know they can be Reveal, don’t reel, Just let them know We’ll tell em so! Let em grow, let em grow Tell em before you leave the floor Let em grow, let em grow Don’t run and slam the door! They might care What you’re going to say Let the critics rage on They never liked Mexicans anyway. It’s funny how some people Makes everything seem huge Sure the menu is limited and the place is dim at least nothing crawling in your food It’s time to see what they can do To test the limits and make great food No right, no wrong, More Salsa Please, More Beans! Let em grow, let em grow Our Server was a really nice guy. Let em grow, Let em grow I’d hate them to axe him and make him cry. I don’t know if this something I should say The bathrooms have charm!(Random) They still have a bar and I hear the Latin jazz sound My feet under the table are dancing around I got a margarita and couldn’t keep the glass I’ll go back if they have dancing like I did in the past. Let em grow, Let em grow Their bread pudding is the bomb Let em grow, let em grow That whole piece is gone! There they stand And there they’ll stay I never learned Spanish What does Tres Hermanas mean anyway.

The worst food ever. Biggest disapppointment! I went last night with my two daughers. I ordered the stuffed chicken it is really gross and it doesn’t come prepared as described on the menu. My daughters ordered chicken burritos which they left half on their plate. The beans that come with every dish are not flavorful which makes them impossible to eat. This is my first time ever leaving a review but the food was so nasty I felt I had to. Money wasted!

Mango Mike’s has reopened as a Mexican restaurant. The house margaritas are well made and the jalapeño poppers are delicious! The new concept opened this week. The interior has a very similar layout to the previous restaurant with new paint and a Mexican motif. It wasn’t very busy, but I don’t think this is the«official» opening. The bar was not fully stocked, they don’t have the new taps for draft beer, and the current menu is somewhat limited. After a margarita and poppers, I ordered the shrimp burrito. It was a good attempt, but didn’t quite work. It was sort of square and grilled briefly and then topped with a lime sour cream and served with beans. There were ample shrimp, with Spanish rice, spinach and portabello mushrooms. There were also sides of guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The pico was fresh, but didn’t have much spice to it. The guacamole was quite good, but didn’t pair well with the burrito. I didn’t finish the burrito, but did eat all the shrimp. They just opened this week and it seems like they are working through the new menu. I’ll be back to try a few other items, but only because I loved Mango Mike’s so much. Overall, I give Tres Hermanas 2.5 stars and really hope it gets better.

The former Mango Mike’s is now Tres Hermanas! Never a fan of reviewing a place during their soft opening, I was excited to try their take on Mexican cuisine. It didn’t disappoint! The place is apparently still under construction, but I was impressed. I can’t wait until their vision is complete! Our party sat at the bar, then learned that wine wasn’t available yet. A great reason to have a beer that pairs so good with the menu: We ordered the Nachos and Jalapeño Poppers. It was so refreshing to actually taste the proper spiciness of a well thought out menu. Best wishes to Tres Hermanas, and welcome to the neighborhood!
