We came here to celebrate my son’s graduation. I made a reservation, but not really needed, but it was a Monday when we ate. Our hibachi chef was good and entertaining. Next time we know to split combos for cost wise.

I wasn’t that impressed. We were the only two people at our table, which may explain why when the service/show started everything was dumped on the grill at once. I didn’t touch any of the vegetables after having watched him flip raw chicken and then start chopping up the veggies right after. Also, at every other hibachi restaurant I’ve been to you get like two pieces of shrimp — none here. He did use a few pieces of the chicken from my meal to throw into our mouths. Lastly, they don’t have the standard yumyum sauce, it’s more of a lemony-mustard sauce. Our cook was very nice and the view/location is very pretty. I don’t think I will return.

If I could give this place less than one star, I would without reservation. Speaking of reservations, we had reservations for 7:30, and so did about 100 other people. We were told several times that we would be seated, but never were. People came in in groups of 16, and were seated before us. The lack of empathy on behalf of the people who worked there was extremely evident. They did t care about the two people with the reservation, because they had 16 to 30 people waiting. They only cares about which group would bring in more money, regardless of who came into the restaurant first. I asked several times to be seated, and was told I would be seated before, due to the fact that I arrived before, but that didn’t happen. I was then told I had to wait until the 30 high school kids were seated, wow! Seriously people, I will never set foot in this establishment again!

Rude, cramped, and overpriced. Showed up for our reservation and were told(not asked) to wait. Were seated elbow-to-elbow sandwiched between other diners and against a window. Tried to move to seats with much more room at the same table – and were told no can do. Seriously? Even the other diners were baffled. We walked out. Never again. Most entrees are around $ 30.

A few months ago, I got a groupon and gave this place a try with a group of friends. First, it has a hard-to-find location, especially at night. The food was pretty good, but the server(who was grouchy older lady) kept on insisting we order individual orders, and discouraged us from sharing(which we ended up doing anyway). Our total bill ending up being over $ 90 without alcoholic drinks and without including the price of the groupon.

Came here for bf’s birthday dinner couple weeks ago. Place was hard to find! We thought it was in the hotel, but it wasn’t. Such a trip trying to find it while wearing 4 inch heels… Not fun! We did finally manage to find it. It’s tucked away beneath some stairs near the water front. This place is super adorable! The Korean ladies who were serving were so adorable and sweet too. We ordered the scallop tempura app which was good. Scallops were cooked perfectly. I also ordered one sushi roll. Forget what it’s called, but it was delicious. Had a cocktail which was fruity and boozy as well. The hibachi wasn’t anything to write home about. Something was def missing in terms of flavor but the preparation and performance is always so amusing and fun! If I remember correctly, the menu prices were affordable and not bad at all! Would def come back once it’s warmer out so we can go enjoy the view and walk by the water and also, note to self to wear comfortable shoes next time!

An A-OK Japanese steakhouse in a nice location on the waterfront in old town Alexandria. My boyfriend and I came here using a groupon. The food was pretty good, standard teppanyaki. We both had the steak. We felt overall the food was a bit over seasoned, slightly too peppery. The man who cooked for us was friendly and did a great job. We had a hard time getting our drinks a few times as well as an issue keeping them full. Decent experience, I would come back if I was in the area and had a hankering for teppanyaki.

Little needs to be said about this place once you visit, but let me try to help entice you. My husband and I have now been three times — yes just 3 — and they already remember us by face. My husband is a huge fan of the showmanship you get at most hibachi restaurants, this one easily takes the cake(get the tall guy if possible; he’s got the widest variety of moves and it’s funny to watch the way he has to move because he’s so tall). Enough of the show. The food is top notch — absolutely above 95% of hibachi places. Just incredible. And they almost always have a Groupon to save you $ 15. The prices aren’t bad as it is, but saving some greenbacks is always better. At the end of the night, we always leave full and happy. We can’t fully say how much we love it. One caveat however: it is street parking and can be a hassle.

How the mighty have fallen. This used to be a great sushi and hibachi grill restaurant. I’m not sure about the hibachi as I have not eaten it in some time, but the sushi quality has gone down dramatically as has the service. The sushi I ordered was sub par. I’ve ordered futomaki all over the U. S and it pretty much comes the same way every time. Sure you can find some differences from time to time, but most of the time you get tamago(egg), fake crab and kampyo(gourd) with a couple other ingredients ranging from spinach to cucumber, daikon(carrot) and mushroom. At my last experience at TJSH, my futomaki had egg and maybe some cucumber and scallion. They couldn’t even manage to add the fake crab. My salmon skin hand roll? Soggy. Yeah, I sometimes like sauce with my sushi, but not so much that it makes it unmanageable. What was sad about my most recent experience, the ingredients were still good the sushi chef just made crappy sushi with them. To the wait staff: We ordered some edamame and gyoza. It would have been nice if these came out BEFORE our meal was over. Who the hell gets served edamame at the end of their meal? Also, if water is the only drink in front of me why do I repeatedly need to ask for it to be refilled? No folks, this place has fallen. I used to go here a lot for many years. I’ve seen some changes over the years, different sushi chefs, different wait staff, but this place has just gotten lazy.

4 of us went for dinner — we ordered — filet and shrimp — filet and chicken — steak and shrimp — chicken First I asked for a glass of wine with my meal and never received it. Second our soups and salads came out and were good — however we expected that the chef would at least start the cooking process while we were eating. It was a good 10 – 15 minutes after we were done with our soups and salads that the chef showed up. It was not a busy night — it was a Tuesday. Once our food started the cooking process — we thought everything would be fine — but the chicken was not. it was bad. It looked like rubber — like it was a bad piece of chicken or frozen chicken that was not thawed before cooking. It was SO bad that we asked the chef to try it and he thought that he needed to cook it more. Instead of apologizing and getting us new plates, he just scraped it off our plates and cooked it more. Then a few minutes later returned it and it was still bad! He refused to take our side on this so we called the manager. The manager claimed it might be overcooked even though we told her its just bad. She said«chicken is hard to cook» — ummm excuse me? what kind of answer is that? Of course she refused to try it — and I requested a new one. Mind you everyone has finished their steak and shrimps and eating the rice, and now only 2 of us are left with half or no meals for … 45 minutes. Our rice was cold, and it was a poor response to the issue. I had them remake a new piece of chicken was was good and they gave us one white rice to share with it. I would never go back here.

The restaurant is clean. But the food is not worth its price. Service need to be improved. I didn’t get what I ordered and the waitress never came back until check… won’t come again

Get a Groupon and try this place out! Its a great place to take our 3 year old son because he enjoys the show. Afterwards you can take a quiet walk outside, since it is located next to the water and far from the crowds down in the Union/King Street pier area. l LOVE the filet and scallop combo meal. I think the quality is so much better than nearby places like Sumo. Also, the food is less salty and more flavorful than other hibachis we’ve been to. The service is great and I love their kimonos. It adds to the experience.

My husband and I came here last night on a date. We bought a Groupon a little time before, and had a reservation at 8. It wasn’t busy to the point of needing one, but it was good to know they take them. The experience was pretty awesome. The hibachi chef did tricks I had never seen done before. He was very interactive, fun, and knows his hibachi cooking skills! We ordered combination items — I ordered the filet mignon and lobster, whereas my husband ordered the shrimp and steak. We split the difference between ourselves sharing our meats. I loved his shrimp. It was delicious. My lobster was good, but not overly amazing as I was imagining. My filet mignon though, that hands down had to be onie of the tastiest ones I’ve ever had, and to think it was off the hibachi grill! The fried rice was good, but I didn’t care for the sauces as much. The ginger sauce was better than the mustard sauce… maybe I am partial since I am not a huge mustard fan. I got one of their specialty drinks. A couple of other women at my table got the same thing — all of agreed it was solid. It is called the Sakura. Prices are a little step compared to Samuri Hibachi off of Duke Street. Quality is better here though. They’ve been in business since 1995, and I can see why. Mind you, the interior still looks like it’s from about 1995 as well. haha Service was fine for the most part. I was a bit annoyed the woman wouldn’t take my drink order while I waited for my husband to arrive. He was coming from DC, and I had already been in Old Town for the day, so it made sense to just join me when he got done. As I waited, I wanted a cocktail. She didn’t want to seat me until his arrival since I was early by 3 minutes before 8. I looked her at her and said, ‘Does it really matter if I order from you at the bar, and close out?” She insisted to go ahead and seat me and bill me in full once the meal was over. I respect that. However, if a patron wants a cocktail while they wait, and closes out the tab, it shouldn’t be a big deal! Otherwise aside from that, she was consistent through out the meal, and we enjoyed ourselves. Would I come back? Absolutely. Was the Groupon worth it? It really only covers one person’s meal sans alcohol, but that was fine by us. Better to pay $ 16 for one meal than $ 30 for one meal. That’s what the value of the Groupon was.

Found this on groupon and decided to try it. The food was very good. I had the salmon. The glaze was very good. Our chef was funny and very entertaining. The hostess was a little less welcoming when we first came in. But, overall, I didn’t feel the service was that bad. I will definitely be back.

Ok… this place was a Groupon deal made in heaven! Parking was a tad bit of a stretch but it is a beautiful night along the waterfront in Old town. Food was awesome… fresh. .greatly prepared by a professional and entertaining Habachi Chef. Service was crappie or I would rate this place higher. I WILLBEBACK!

Bought a Groupon to try a new place out. Typically I go to Sakura or Samuri(formerly Hana Tokyo). Let’s start with the fact that the place is in a great area but is a bit dated. We came on a Wednesday night for dinner and the place was empty. 10 mins into being seated we were asked to move a few seats over I’m order to accommodate 5 people. At this point, I ordered an avocado roll because I knew it would be a while before getting our food. The avocado roll came and was interesting to say the least. The avocado was brown and the roll was warmer than room temperature which to me indicated that it was not freshly made. The show was cute and I definitely saw a few new tricks. I was expecting some yum yum sauce but instead got mustard sauce. Yes MUSTARD and it was horrible. The rice was not appetizing at all and was a small portion. The best thing at dinner was the meat and seafood. My daughter ordered steak(fabulous) and I ordered the chicken and shrimp. Very moist and flavorful. I’m giving this place 2 stars for the meat but not sure if I would return.

For some reason, there are none of these teppanyaki-style restaurants in all of the District(as far as I know). Luckily, Holly H. grabbed a Groupon for this one in Alexandria, about 8 blocks from the center of Old Town. The entrance, in the back of a large office park, is tough to locate. Usually, that would be a negative location-wise, but it’s situated adjacent to a(real) park and on the water, which is nice. The atmosphere inside is more normal, though they could use a little more A/C. We were seated quickly with some new friends(the kind whom we are so close with that we didn’t even bother speaking), and ordered right after. We both got the steak, which comes with soup and salad. Despite what other reviews here said, I thought the portions were pretty sizable. A large helping of steak, and plenty of fried rice and veggies(the portions of noodles, for those who selected that instead of rice, were almost comical). The steak was very good, and I liked both sauces. It’s still pricey — $ 24 for the steak, but $ 30-$ 40 if you get a «combo.» I guess that’s reasonable when you consider the«show» part, and the included soup/salad(though both were kinda weak). Regardless, having the Groupon makes things better in the value department. As for that show, it hit all checkboxes(throw knives around, onion volcano, throw pieces of shrimp), but our chef wasn’t particularly charismatic or engaging(i.e. he didn’t really say anything to us the whole time) — no frills there. But at least that meant he kept the food sitting on the fire — we were hungry! Overall, I think a «high 3» stars is a fair rating.

Decent Japanese Steak House which largely depends on your chef. The filet was better than most other teppanyaki but the scallops were not as good as other local places. The soup was my least favorite, several people at the table asked if it was just salted water, I would agree. The kids menu is great as they do include soup and salad. The other local place we go to does not include these. Lastly, they don’t charge extra for fried rice or noodles. TJSH is a nice option for teppanyaki. Hopefully you get a decent chef.

There’s just something about teppanyaki that is so totally awesome. And thanks to Groupon we found ourselves at this teppanyaki place for a date night. It’s tucked away and off the beaten path, but worth a visit. We went late on a weeknight and were seated immediately. It was nice and uncrowded. The place looks small from the outside, but there was definitely plenty of grills and seating. And there’s a sushi bar too. There’s not exactly a whole lot to look at in terms of décor, but it’s a nice place with a good atmosphere. Our server and teppanyaki chef(do they have an official title?) were great. Attentive and friendly. Every teppanyaki meal comes with soup, salad, rice(totally go for the fried rice), and sauces. I opted for scallops and filet as my meat choices. Definitely go for the filet. The difference between the regular steak and the filet was pretty dramatic. Everything tasted great. And I definitely left very full. And the prices aren’t too bad. All in all, a great meal with a great cooking show. We left happy and pleased.
