Solar Planet

I’ve been tanning at a few of the Solar Planet locations for a couple years now and it’s definitely as good as it gets for the area and the staff are always super friendly. The higher pressure bed they offer gets me a good base in only a few sessions. More recently, I’ve been using the Norvell booth for spray tanning. It is so natural looking. I only use level 1 or 2, but I always receive compliments on my sun-​kissed glow.
I have a spray session package now, but when I was bed tanning I had the point package, which worked really well for me because I didn’t tan that often and only tanned for half time when I did. This way I didn’t use up my points too quickly and I had a whole year to use them before I had to renew.
The point package was a little difficult to understand at first… but they explained everything very thoroughly and then showed me how to use all the tanning units properly. I also like that they haven’t pressured me into buying a ton of products, but will recommend things here and there. I loved the Botanica line when I was bed tanning… really good for sensitive skin. I’ve now been using the Norvell prolong lotion for in between my spray sessions, which I also really recommend.

Been coming here for a while to spray tan. The front desk staff have gotten consistently worse through the past few years, to the point that the last time I went, I could not understand the girl and she was not at all helpful. I asked during my last few visits if I needed to renew, and several different staff said no. So today, I went in for a spray, and the non-​English speaking girl who couldn’t understand how to spell my name even when I spelled it out for her told me I had nothing left on the account. That’s nice, since the last few times I was told I had plenty. Today, I was walking home from the gym and didn’t have my wallet to renew– which is why I asked the last few times.
Also, I have gotten ringworm from their apparently not washed in hot water towels which I’m told to use to towel off the extra spray tan. Nice. Can’t imagine what you might pick up on the tanning beds.

I used to do beds but now I just spray. Their spray unit is fantastic and super natural looking. I don’t smell like I’ve been tanning. I’ve also done an airbrush here before and it looked wonderful! Been coming here for awhile. The staff is friendly and knowledgable

I came to Solar Planet for spray tanning by way of a friend. I will say that I had used a tanning bed many years ago, but had never done the spray tan. I had to be told exactly what to expect and do. The staff was very friendly and walked me through it all. They were patient and kind. I think their prices are great as well.
They have 3 spray tanning levels. I use level 1 and I am very fair skinned. I have a friend who goes and she is much more tan, usually, than I and she usually uses 1 as well. I can’t imagine what 2 is!
I am a loyal customer. I don’t go often, but when I have a beach trip coming, they are a for sure place I will always go.

There is only one platinum bed available so I had to wait until the girl ahead of me got out but I was really pleased with my results.
The girl at the front desk directed me to a shea tanning lotion and showed me how to use the bed.
There isn’t a full length mirror which is really weird and the small face mirror they provide in the rooms are placed so high I could barely see myself without tip toeing.
They don’t offer wipes or even regular lotion but I didn’t care so much as I cared about the results I got. I don’t tan easily but day after day, the tan deepened and settled in really nicely and I’m really thrilled.

This place is a rip off. They don’t tell the truth about points system and just smile and say sorry. I was told I could use points from last summer; however the points actually expired. They offered to allow me to pay more money. I said no and they just looked at me. The entire reason I bought a package stems from job requirements. Don’t bother going here. Sucks

I went in for my first spray tan ever last week and I loved it. This is the best tanning place I’ve been to because the woman that helped me wasn’t pressuring me to buy a ton of extra things like most tanning salons do. She just helpfully suggested lotions, and packages which made me happy to buy a lotion. Normally when they start pressuring me I just say no to everything! I would recommend going there if you are typically annoyed with the sale pressure of most chain salons. Also, I liked the fact that you can buy a package of spray tans that don’t expire within the month of purchase and there’s no membership fee which is impossible to find around here. It was also the cheapest for Mystic that I could find around here. I didn’t have a problem with street parking but I think I just got lucky since I didn’t go on a weekend.

The place is clean, the beds are good quality, and the staff is very friendly with no sell pressure. I’ve never had to wait for a bed. Like the other reviewer pointed out, the street parking can be tricky, which is why I, too, only give it a 4. Other than that it’s great.

ok so i’m tanning for our upcoming wedding. i used to tan regularly, but haven’t tanned in 5 – 6 years… so here’s the deal: this place is ideal b/​c 1. you can buy a package/​share tan ‘points’ with another person (ie, significant other in my case); 2. facility is clean and rarely crowded (at least not when I go anyway); 3. beds are quality; 4. you don’t have to buy one of those monthly «unlimited» tanning packages (which I would never get my money’s worth out of!); 5. you can tan at any one of several solar planet locations (which works out perfect for me and my fiancé b/​c there’s a solar planet close to where he works in reston and then there’s another solar planet close to where I work in alexandria)
The management is friendly and knowledgeable as well. Why didn’t I give it 5 stars? Parking can be a bitch if you go during the weekday (before 5pm). Also, some beds are sort of on the old side — quality bulbs — just older beds.
