Wanting to eat a quick lunch, I had a bowl of udon. The broth was very lacking and didn’t have deep flavor I look for Japanese shoyu-based broth. Service was courteous and efficient. If I have to pay a good money, I’d rather have something better than what I had here. I don’t have to come back.

Just finished a bowl of Tonkotsu ramen. So good. The décor and atmosphere are nice and the location is convenient with plenty of parking. The waitress was friendly. This normally a sushi restaurant, but now they offer ramen, so my wife and I had to try it. We lived in Japan for 5 years, so I can’t say it is the best ramen ever, but it was delicious and brought a smile to my face and that is my criteria for a great rating. We will definitely go again.

The service was diligent, but not exactly the friendliest. The sushi was below average – funny color and stale taste. You could still taste how bad the white tuna was even through wasabi and soy sauce. The smell was terrible! Our fried roll was soggy and tasted as if it had been refried from earlier in the day. It was our first and last visit. Maybe the gloomy and empty atmosphere should have been a sign.

I used to work down the street from this place and miss it dearly. Great prices on their sushi lunch specials. Unique sushi rolls and their brown sauce that goes on the deep fried rolls is to die for. Clean and very speedy service.

Don’t come if you want to try Ramen. Just don’t. Broth tastes like water downed and lacks.

My wife and I have stopped for Sushi at Katana a couple of times over the past month. The basic rolls, like Crunchy Spicy Tuna($ 5.25) and Shrimp Tempora($ 5.75) are good, fresh, and well-priced. We really liked the Hayfield Roll($ 9.95), which is well-priced for a specialty roll. This is a good spot for good and quick sushi dinner. They seem to do a good take-out business and have many other food options beyond sushi, but we have not tried any yet.

I saw that they posted a sign out front letting people that they now serve ramen so I went in for lunch with my family. In fact, I was happy to see the sign as this restaurant is very close to my house and they have plenty of parking spots. I saw the ramen menu and the selection is small, but I was fine with it as they also serve sushi and other food items. We ordered 2 bowls of spicy miso ramen and 1 bowl of regular miso ramen. As for my spicy ramen, I thought the spicy level was fine although I added a bit more chili just because I like it it a little more spicy. The pork belly was well-seasoned as well as the egg. The broth was very disappointing. I did not taste the miso in the broth at all. It was very bland. I added some soy sauce so and it helped, but since I think the broth is a big part of the flavor, it didn’t deliver it. I thought the noodle texture was good. Service was good though.

This place is decent. We’ve eaten here twice. The food is pretty good. We brought a large party here for my husband’s birthday and the food was good but the service could have been better. Having tried several other sushi places in the area I have to say this one rates pretty highly on the scale, food wise.

I’ve always said I «hate sushi» and never want to «try» sushi. That changed after trying Katana’s «HAYFIELDROLL» sushi. Oh my goodness … it is beyond FABULOUS. :) Now one of my favorite foods. Love this restaurant and for changing my mind about sushi. Lovely people too. Highly recommend! :)

More precisely, I’d give Katana 2.75 stars. The restaurant is attractive for a strip mall establishment, but nothing really distinguishes it from other area sushi restaurants. The food is fine, but the presentation is dull and uninspiring. Our sodas were served in cans(although they did ask if we wanted ice), which is a turn-off for me at sit-down restaurants. We found the sushi chef to be a bit gruff and the wait staff not much friendlier. If we are in the neighborhood again, are hungry, and can find no better choices, we’ll return to Katana. However, given the choice between Katana and Kumo(in Kingstowne), which are equidistance from our house, Kumo wins hands down.

Fast service, reasonable prices, and fresh sushi, teriyaki and tempura… a good bet for a quick sushi lunch or dinner. I’ve been to quite a few sushi and tereyaki spots in this area and this is definitely one of the better ones. The bento box is a nice bet if you cannot decide what you want… the portion of salmon was generous and the tempura was crisp and fresh.

Pretty standard lunchtime sushi joint. Service was prompt, but I couldn’t help but feel they just wanted me to leave? It was almost painful, and a bit rushed. Sushi was fresh but uninspired. Is what Is. I’ll come back for lunch, but wouldn’t hesitate to audible to a better sushi spot.

I finally got around to trying this sushi restaurant that’s right down the street from my house. The sushi was good and the prices for the sushi I ordered were also good. The one gripe about price I have is the salad with the ginger dressing I ordered was pretty pricey for a couple pieces of iceberg lettuce and some dressing. I just got carry out so I haven’t dined in yet. One other complaint I had is that they say they stay open until 10pm but one night I tried to order carryout at 9:30pm, I called multiple times but no one ever answered. That didn’t put me off to the point where I will never try this place again. If I’m craving sushi and dont feel like traveling far from home I will come here again.

Two and a half stars for perfectly adequate sushi. Plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot. Cute décor but service was aloof. Standard miso and dressed salad. 12-piece chirashi packed into a conservatively sized bowl with decent knifwork, accompanied by a few slices of takuan. Hamachi kama was a little overcooked, having crossed the line of grilled into charred and done, served with basic ponzu sauce on the side. With moderate pricing and plenty of competitors in the VA ‘burbs, I’ll be satisfying my jonesing for raw fish elsewhere.

====January 15,2014==== I order at 11:09am and told It wood be 30 min. But 11:45 told it wood be another 10 min.12:00pm I waited until 12:10pm and he just left. When 12:30pm came it was on it’s way and didn’t get until 12:40pm and found the salad with little wilted. Soup not hot. Cake was not cooled. Even the restaurant was busy. They should have suspend delivery service for that day. Rain day because of traffic. Nice day it to busy. I get them good business. I my order maybe.

Don’t go here find another place! Never going again. Poor quality and very skimpy on the meats/fish. AND the worst part is, I was greeted happily but didn’t mark tip on my carry out receipt. Then curiously, their friendliness went away. As I waited I prepped 20% cash and gave it to them. The girl who took my tip was extremely nice as if she was making up for something… When I got home and unpacked my order, I realized they totally ripped me off because they went off my receipt and didn’t think I was going tip. Why would anyone ever run a business so spitefully, especially since they’re overpriced to begin with. The seating is small(their maximum capacity license listed 49). The tables seat four with only one that can seat 6. So this place is not for large groups. Took a copy of their brochure menu, it does not reflect all their offerings.

We were looking for good sushi and a fair price in a clean atmosphere, and that’s just what we got. It seemed very quiet for a Saturday night, only 2 waitresses on staff. The miso soup was mediocre at best, but the sushi was above average. The Phoenix maki was delicious, with the shrimp tempura and avocado on top. It was the perfect mix of textures; the crunchy shrimp, the soft avocado, and the refreshing cucumber all made a great balance. I had to approach the waitress, as she did not come to me, but once we spoke she was very kind and personable.

We were hunting for a low-key, out in VA, place for a sushi NYE dinner. And thanks to Unilocal,we landed here. And what a pleasant find! This little restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall /shopping center. It was practically empty when we walked in. We were greeted promptly and sat immediately. It’s a tiny place. Just a handful of 4-top and 2-top tables and a very small sushi bar. But it’s cute and welcoming. It reminded me of sushi places in Vegas. And that’s a very good thing. In addition to a lengthy list of sushi rolls, they also had a good selection of appetizers, entrees, and bento boxes. We settled on a bento box and a couple of rolls. And it was a LOT of food! I definitely left stuffed. The sake offerings were just simply hot or cold, but the cold sake was quite good. We also tried out some random Japanese soda, which was actually yummy. The food came out in a timely manner. Our server was polite, informative, and checked on us just the right amount. And, in the end, it wasn’t too costly for the quantity and quality we had. James O. proclaimed it to be the best sushi he’s had in the DMV area so far. And he’s über picky. And I would rate it the best sushi I’ve had in the area too. It may be a bit of a drive, but it’s worth it. I’m certain we will be back again.

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When you get locked out your house you… eat sushi! At least in my case, that’s what I did! I was locked out of the house and kinda hungry and bored so I decided to venture to the Hayfield Shopping Center to Katana because I had seen their signs advertising specials and thought that would be a good«date» night to treat myself. Katana is a clean and open little restaurant with a varied menu of Japanese meal choices and lots of sushi options, including sushi meals. I opted for their trio of Spicy rolls because they included soup and salad. The miso soup was really tasty with some chopped scallion for crunch, nori and a lot of miso. The salad was a typical salad with the tasty ginger dressing. It was just typical. The rolls really stood out though as being truly delicious. The California roll was very fresh, but the tuna and salmon were possibly the best rolls I’ve had of those basics. The fish was really fresh and there was something in the roll that provided just a hint of texture, which I think is needed in the only fish rolls. That texture really took the rolls to the next level of great sushi. It was quite the sushi experience and one I want to have over and over again! Sushi breakdown: The Sushi: Delicious. Really just wonderful. I could eat it everyday I think. You can eat there everyday because there are so many options! The Value: The sushi dinner I chose was $ 13 and I think that’s pretty good. Most of their rolls are priced well. I also ordered a Saporro and that was $ 4.50, which was kind of high, but I understand it wasn’t happy hour! The Experience: Fantastic! I was there by myself and it wasn’t questioned, I ready my kindle and it was fine. For 8.30, there were a few tables filled and I found that kind of surprising for a Thursday night, but good for Katana and good for those who have a late evening sushi craving! 5 stars?: This was some of the best sushi I’ve had in the Northern VA area and the restaurant is really clean, friendly and open Would I return?: Yes! I’m going to have to take family there to discover this little jewel of Hayfield!

Great lunch specials, around $ 10 you get main meal with salad and soup. Habachi is very tasty, sushi decent, prices reasonable, kinda high for dinner. Friendly staff, in a strip mall with other various eats from McDonald’s to Chinese.
