Bleh. Today I stopped here and got Terry’s Vegetarian Pasta. It’s not good at all. It’s a rotini pasta with no sauce and a bunch of smelly mushrooms, super bitter spinach and sundried tomatoes. It’s not revolting or anything, it’s just not good. This is something a non-cook kind of person would throw together in confusion. The little side salad that came with it wasn’t what it said on the menu, it was just lettuce. And the pasta was supposed to have sunflower seeds, but it definitely didn’t. It was just wack all around. Completely wack. But, I have been here before and it was pretty decent, a couple years ago I used to get their shrimp salad and their fish of the day, both were usually quite good. This place is overpriced though. It just is, for what you are getting. The service was pretty good. The host greeted me and told me about the burger special. I asked if there was a veggie burger and said I was vegetarian, and he told me there was a turkey burger. Turkey is not a vegetable. But that’s not the host’s fault, it’s the fault of non-vegetarians who call themselves vegetarians and confuse everyone else. Anyway, meh. This place is nice on the inside and very clean, the staff is nice, but the food is overpriced and hit or miss with probably more misses than hits. Stop in and see if you like it but don’t expect anything great. Sorry for the negative review but I am pretty disappointed.

We LOVE Foxfire and are there at least once a week. The atmosphere is casual, yet refined — the perfect pair for a great neighborhood place. The menu is small but mighty! They do what they do very well! Don’t pass up impressive wine list. It really is a treasure!

This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant! I love the chicken kale salad. My husband loves the chicken tarragon pasta. Great wine selection, attentive service.

We have several great local restaurants in Alexandria, but our hands-down favorite is Foxfire Grill, a neighborhood gem since 2003. We go there at least twice a week on average, and sometimes more. What keeps us coming back to Foxfire Grill? (1) The food: Foxfire’s time-tested menus feature a variety of great dishes. Whether you go for lunch, weekend brunch, or dinner, you will surely find food that you will enjoy. Start your meal with a delicious house-made soup. The lentil soup is my favorite, but they’re all good. And don’t forget to ask about the soup du jour. Like calamari? Try it as an appetizer. Served with a delicious garlic olive aioli, it’s always tender and tasty. Craving a burger? Have it your way: beef, chicken, turkey, or bison, with your choice of toppings. Have it cooked the way you like it. Not a meat eater? Enjoy the veggie wrap or Terri’s vegetarian pasta. Among my(and my husband’s) favorites: brunch burritos, roasted red pepper hummus, kale salad, burgers and sandwiches, steak frites, parmesan crusted chicken, dry-rubbed pork ribs, fish specials and the pan-seared salmon, bolognese, sea scallops, and pork tenderloin. If fish and seafood are a major part of your diet, you will find many great dishes to enjoy. The pan-seared salmon is always fresh and tasty, with great side dishes. Fresh fish specials are frequent features. They’re delicious and are served with a variety of interesting sides. (2) Wine and cocktails: Foxfire has a great wine list with a cross-section of varietals — red, white, and sparkling. Prefer a cocktail? Have yours made to order, and consider bellying up to the bar for an after-dinner drink. The bar area is very inviting and has generous seating. (3) The Staff: Foxfire founder and owner Terri Fox is very hands-on and accessible. Staff are friendly, well-versed in food and wine pairings, and proactive about promoting menu items and specials. (4) Foxfire events: Speaking of food and wine pairings, ask your server about upcoming events. Wine tastings are held on selected Saturdays at 3 pm. You’ll sample great wines and food, and you’ll be tempted to stay for dinner. (5) Perks: Get a Foxfire card and rack up some points. We’re proud, card-carrying members and will soon enjoy a free dinner with friends.

I went in there yesterday and the food was excellent. The staff was prompt. Atmosphere was good(not like a strip mall).

What an awesome neighborhood restaurant! We are her twice a week and we love this place. The food is awesome, the service is generous, the pours are generous and the clientele are friendly! Best of all, Foxfiris locally owned and the owner is often at the restaurant. Not a chain, it is a local restaurant and place to socialize with neighbors.

I love this place. I started going shortly after they opened and was impressed with the passion put into making a visit an excellent experience. Their staff is friendly and the bar area in the front is clearly a comfortable watering hole for some of the locals. I go for dinner usually, and have liked every dish I’ve tried. I like that everything comes with a twist — some flavor or preparation that always works. The architecture is clean and airy but somehow still comfortable and just the right amount of cozy. They’ve never let me down. Back when I used to go about once a month, some of the staff had taken the time to remember my name — nice touch.

I consider myself a regular here – at least once a week – usually for the half-price hamburger special on Monday evenings. Recently, within the last month, my friend(also a regular) and I were seated at our usual place(#43, I think). We enjoy chatting(my friend especially needs this time to unwind), but this evening we realized after being seated that NOSERVER/WAITER came by for 15 – 20 minutes! Unbelievable! They were around, walking by, but never stopping. The waiters are assigned certain tables, but we had no idea who our waiter was, let alone try to flag the person down. We finally practically stood up in front of one scurrying by to ask who our waiter was. It wasn’t the person we spoke to. Sometimes, I think that we are being taken advantage of! Thid was not the first time this happened to us, only the most recent. We don’t mind waiting, but really! I am actually getting tired of being ignored; I am trying to get my friend to consider other places, even though this place is so convenient to him, on his way home from a very hectic, stressful job. One of the reasons I go there is that the conversations with staff and other regulars is so congenial, and I get to laugh a lot – something I need to experience more. And it’s neat to be considered a regular(how about 7+ years?), but why go to a restaurant if we can’t ever get the food(and the wine is almost never served with the meal, but like 5 minutes later – except for the exceedingly proficient and professional Carrie(although it really wouldn’t hurt her face if she smiled ONCE in awhile). Life is short; we want to enjoy it, and be loved. PS. The food is always great! PPS. I read a review here recently that the owner thrilled a 3 — year-old child by giving her a tour of the kitchen! That would be cool, but I’ve never even been offered the same. Someone much older than 3 can be easily entertained.

I cannot say much about their food because we never got that far. With three waitstaff on duty(not counting the bar tender) and 3 tables of guests, you would think service would be at least adequate. Not so. First, after waiting 5 minutes for someone to notice us, we seated ourselves. Perhaps it’s that kind of restaurant? Then, when I went looking for a high chair, I found some staff who must have then been alerted to our presence. Once I brought the chair to the table, my wife went to wash her hands. When she returned, another few minutes later, we still had not been greeted by wait staff, given menus, or in any other way acknowledged. What sealed the deal was overhearing another patron explain how she had to flag down wait staff after waiting for 15 minutes. We got up to leave, and only at that point were we approached. By then it was clear we were in for bad service, regardless of the quality of the food. We were drawn to the restaurant by its proximity and decent ratings. We left because we’d never have the chance to try the food.

I have been here many times and been happy with the place. The décor is lovely and the food in good. It isn’t too loud and parking is easy. The price is probably more than two $$ symbols but I still like it. I usually get the cobb salad and am always happy.

Okay service. Food is flavorless, but unoffensive. I had a glass of their Foxfire beer, and a club sandwich. The beer tasted a lot like Bud Light. It was unoffensive, but had almost no flavor. The waiter had compared it to Yuengling, which isn’t the case, Yuengling has more flavor. For dinner, I had the turkey club sandwich, which also had very little flavor. The french fries that came with the sandwich were also nearly flavorless. One of my coworkers got a burger, and also thought it was pretty flavorless. As for the atmosphere, it was, unsurprisingly, bland. It just felt like I was eating in a strip mall restaurant. Unless you really need food, and are unable to go to one of the many other restaurants in this shopping center, I wouldn’t waste your time or money at Foxfire Grill.

We were looking for a place to eat while enjoying the weather. However we had our golden lab with us. We didn’t want to leave him home alone so we decided to look for restaurant that is pet friendly and Foxfire Grill came up. So we figured, why not? We went and immediately the staff greeted us and saw we had our puppy and seated us outside in the patio. The staff were amazing and so friendly! She even brought out some water and treats for our puppy. The food was good as well :) We had an amazing time!

Amazing food and such friendly staff. A wonderful neighborhood gem SO perfect for kids. So happy we discovered it tonight. So impressed with the owner who actually took our 3.5 yr old on a kitchen tour. Who does that?!

Meh. Between 2.5 and 3. In terms of options for the direct mini-area where it’s located, it bubbles up frequently as a choice for work lunches or dinners. Service is hit or miss. Food is average to me, but some options I like(salmon on a salad) and it’s close. The atmosphere is above average for the blocks surrounding it.

Solid, American fare. We live in the neighborhood and this is one of our standbys that we regularly bring friends and family to when they visit. No one has complained. Overpriced, as some other reviews have said? This is the D.C. metro area, so I usually don’t expect to have an appetizer + two entrées + a bottle of wine for less than $ 100. At Foxfire, you can(key = choose a wine from the 20 under $ 20 menu). Yogi at the bar is my dawg. Sarah and Carrie are some greats on the floor(admittedly, the owner, Terri Fox, does a good job of setting a high bar for anyone that works there).

Terrible food… Let me elaborate. Although the ambiance is decent, people sitting and eating and talking, that’s as far as the pleasantries go. Me and a friend decided to dine here because the reviews seemed decent and we always saw it when we went to Starbucks. However, upon ordering our food and it arriving I could already see that my food wasn’t even fresh, as in, it was probably sitting out and might have been reheated. I had a bite just to reassure me of my suspicions and stopped at that. It was cold within a minute of arriving, gross. Highly recommend to stay away from this restaurant.

Honestly, the food is mediocre at best. Highly uninspired Scallops dish with Scallops decently cooked, but the price for four Scallops seems a little high. Plus the bed of orzo pasta they put it on is nearly flavorless and almost clashes with the Scallops(which don’t taste very fresh by the way, and are under seasoned). It’s not all bad here though, don’t get me wrong. The deserts are good and some dishes are decent, just not spectacular or anything(certainly not something making me want to come back). The shrimp and grits are not bad, I like the gravy and the fact that there’s bacon involved is smart on their part… but honestly, I’ve had better and can easily find better. I’m not sure if this is a franchise, but I think there’s a Foxfire Grill in Columbia, SC that got shut down or something.

Went there for lunch today and it was rather disappointing. Salvatore was our waiter, at least that’s what my receipt says, he never really introduced himself. The atmosphere is nice and somewhat clean but rather dark for lunch time despite the pale furniture. The food was about average but slightly over priced. I would eat there again if the service would improve. Sal was so slow and our glasses stayed empty which was not a hard task since 3 out of 4 of us had water. There were only four other tables in the restaurant and two wait persons so either he has never waited tables before or he just didn’t care. He was a little bit of a jerk as well. My wife likes plenty of lemon for her water and he made a snide remark about only being able to provide extra lemons because his manager was away and then he accused her of making free lemonade. Um no, she doesn’t put sugar in her water… just lemons. Lunch service(again with only four tables in the restaurant) took almost 90 mins!!! Complete waste of time.

Admittedly I only stopped in for a quick drink while I awaited for some friends to get home but this is what I can add. 1) men’s room was NOT dirty. So not sure if that is a historical artifact or not. 2) bartender was very nice. It was slow for her and the bad area is small but she hooked male up with a draft IPA, introduced herself, told me about happy hour specials and the daily specials. Clearly experienced and skilled 3) my app came out quick. 4) after reading another review on their single malt selections I finally raised my head from my food long enough to note the great spread of single malts. Scotch heavy, bourbon light. I didn’t get a chance to ask why but we went from the traditional(glenlivet and glendiddich) to the islay(lagavulin) and even a balviene(spelling?) Only negative comment I’d have is the set up, which I assume was an effort to separate the bar from the dining area, made the flow a bit odd. As a special note on the way outbid the plaza I noted a cigar shop. Maybe a cigar then Foxfire for a scotch pairing?
