I have been going to Burger Delite since I can remember. I was seriously depressed this last Saturday when I went with my kids to chow down and they were closed. And I mean depressed… the NC barbeque, bean soup, fried bologna sandwiches, eggs, bacon, scrapple, chili dogs are the closest I’ve experienced to my grandmother’s cooking. The food wasn’t particularly healthy but it was fresh and fantastic. This is the end of an era for me, and my kids who loved it too. I can’t think of anywhere else as unique Burger Delite was.

Looks like this one is closed for good, just in the last couple of days. Another westend institution bites the dust…

Needed a quick snack, so I stopped in for a cheeseburger royal and a small order of onion rings. The food was ok here, with a homemade style of burger that reminded me of something my grandmother might throw together. They also hade some interesting menu option that you might not find elsewhere: pork chop plate, liver wurst sandwich, and some North Carolina BBQ… selections for a future visit The guys at the grill were kind and charming, giving the place extra character. However, the lady working the counter might have been a character, arguing with cooks and customers, but she hardly added anything to my Burger Delite experience. When I approached the counter, she was in the process of waiting on several customers but asked for my order before she had finished with them, essentially forcing me to cut in line. I gave her my order only to have her ask for it again four minutes later: «But you just took my order?» «I wasn’t listening to you.» Obviously not I thought. However, as I have said, the guys at the grill were über cool, and I would return again for their friendly down home service; I just hope I pick a day when the screaming counter lady is off.

Some of the best greasy breakfast and lunch food ive ever had. Just make sure you dont hold up the line at the lunch rush.

Great for a quick bite. Not the healthiest food by far and the cleanliness of the workers in regards to how they handle the food leaves much to be desired. I like the food though. It is consistent and the prices are good. If employee food handling and overall cleanliness improves, so will my rating.

The moment I rode by this restaurant and saw North Carolina barbecue written on the sign… I knew that it would be only a matter of time before I stop by… I found the customer service to be very friendly and the beef barbecue platter to be awesome. The peach cobbler was also delightful, but I would shy away from the ice tea. Every time I have a taste for barbecue this will be my go to place…

I was pretty excited to try out Burger Delite as my husband and I pass by it frequently. They aren’t open on Sundays and they close early(3:30PM) on the other days, so it was a little tough in finding a good time to check it out. Apparently, Burger Delite is a local favorite. They offer breakfast sandwiches and platters, sandwiches/subs/chicken & tuna salad, honey ham, boneless fish, pork chops, burgers, soups, bbq(pulled pork), sides(french fries, onion rings, and hush puppies), and desserts. I tried their Philly Shorty, which is a steak and cheese sub — it’s really small and thin(think of Jimmy John’s sub size) — the steak was seasoned & cooked well, contained lots of provolone cheese, mayo, and had grilled onions(you can opt for lettuce and tomatoes). We also tried the Cheeseburger Royal combo; I wasn’t a fan of the burger as the meat patty was unseasoned; the side of the french fries(‘wedge cut’) was crispy and yummy — I was a fan of these! We also shared a North Carolina-style pulled pork, which came with a small cup of coleslaw; there was a bbq sauce jug to pour to your heart’s content — the pulled pork was quite juicy, and the coleslaw was creamy and delicious, adding a nice creaminess & crunchiness to the sandwich. I also liked their bbq sauce, even though it was slightly tangy; it complemented the pork well. My husband had their home-brewed sweet tea, and it was definitely better as a ½ and ½ combo with the lemonade. We finished the meals off with a homemade peach cobbler, which came piping hot and it was delicious! Very thick, syrup-like consistency, tons of peaches, and a yummy cobbler crust! Definitely a cute little place for some simple fare — I’d love to come back and try out their breakfast items, soups, and their other side items(like the jumbo onion rings!). The staff here was very laid back and friendly, but on top of it in terms of getting your order. You don’t get a number, so just be on your toes when they call out(they usually say ‘ma’am’/‘sir’ or state that items that you’ve ordered). They have about 5 tables within and have limited parking spaces in their small lot. +cute little local diner-esque place +Philly Shorty(steak and cheese) +yummy french fries(seasoned potato wedges) +homemade peach cobbler: D

i went here and ordered breakfast and would never go back. Everything we ordered was flavorless and bland. It seemed like they purchased the cheapest of everything — thin small pieces of bacon, small tasteless sausage patty. I know this is a diner but there are plenty of other diners in Alexandria that serve better food.

This place is top notch. The peach cobbler is heaven, the burgers are on point and the fries are like big wedges of potato which I normally do not like but these are terrific. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. I always leave with a smile. I wish they were open a bit later though!

Good American greasy food. Bbq sandwich was legit, French toasts were good value. Opening early also means they are good for times when you get woken up by your baby early in the morning.

I have read the other reviews for this place and the bad ones remind me why I’ve started putting less faith in Unilocal reviews. I’m an actual foodie… I’ve tasted fare all over the world. This place is a diner… it has been the same for 40 years almost. The food here is great. .I’ve had the pulled pork with coleslaw and the p hilly cheese steak and both were on point. The prices are standard for the area, maybe a little high. The only reason I don’t give this place a 5 star is that I am consistently unimpressed with the fries. .they are good enough but don’t compare to the rest of the meal. I find the people here to be nice and at this kind of diner… service is over when you get your food… hence short order. All of the foodies on here complaining about the service should probably research the restaurant type and style before complaining about lackluster service and hurt feelings. If you are in the area, keep an open mind and give it a try… There is a reason it has been here for 38 years while still being able to close at 5PM and not open up on a Sunday.

First time being here. The philly cheesesteak and the french fries are amazing! Loved the flavor. I have to come back to have more fries and to try their bbq pulled pork. Very clean place. Good environment. The size of the cheesesteak is about the same size as a Subway footlong, so not too big nor too small. It’s a place you must definitely try!

I rolled up in here with my boyfriend this morning, and I was pleasantly surprised. This is probably because my expectations were so low. I have seen this place sitting there on the corner for years, and never noticed that people were actually in there eating. Well anyway, I agreed to dine in to prove that I am not Booshie as he says. I ordered the 3 link sausage and egg sandwich with provolone cheese on White Bread. I even asked for some hot sauce and my egg over medium so that it could run a little. It was delicious. Now I’m curious about their other offerings. The food here is cheap and simple. I will be back.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid with my dad. I love this place. It’s tiny and cramped, but the foods not too bad. I’m not incredibly picky and I don’t care about how fancy a place is, so I like this kind of place. Get a hamburger royal. It’s just a regular hamburger, but it’s good. My dad usually gets the beef bbq and he loves it. Their onion rings are pretty delicious too. It is a greasy spoon and I don’t think I’ve ever called this place anything but ‘the greasy spoon’. Be careful about the woman doing the cash register, she can be pushy and seem mean sometimes, but she’s just trying to keep everything moving. If you aren’t looking for anything fancy and if you have a crowd to feed, I would suggest you try it.

If you’re nostalgic for a 60’s/70’s era diner experience, be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it. With glossed over, highly designed places like Silver Diner we tend to forget what a real greasy spoon diner of the 60’s/70’s era was like. Burger Delite will remind you. Its closed in, cramped, with the smell of grease and the feel of a light coating of grease everywhere from decades of deep fryer usage. Its definitely not the sterile, polished look of a modern day Silver Diner franchise resto. I decided to have the half smoke sausage, the«north carolina» hush puppies and the mac and cheese. The half smoke lived up to its diner origins and was good enough but the hush puppies were the worst of industrial strength, mass produced fare. The mac and cheese was pretty standard, high volume, delivered in a 55 gallon drum fare as well. As far as service, I wasn’t in a hurry so it didn’t bother me, but it was terribly inefficient and slow. Especially when you consider everything was most likely pre-cooked and just had to be nuked. If I were on my lunch break, I’d be annoyed. I don’t think I’ll be beating a path back to Burger Delite.

Meh, the usual greasy spoon spot where all the locals seem to love. Foods decent and the menu options go on forever! Chili dog was pretty good, hamburger not so much but what heck I’d go again.

This place from the outside doesn’t look very appetizing. The place never looks open and the parking lot is usually empty except for lunchtime. The design of the store and decorations doesn’t make it attractive. But, after driving past this place thousands of times I decided to try it out, overall it was what I expected. Some people love this place, and as you can read from the reviews some people don’t care for it. This place can be great depending on what you order and what you expect. Personally, I’m a foodie so I expect food to taste good and be fresh. At this place the only good thing is the BBQ, everything else tastes worse than McDonalds. I’d rather have a burger from the Wendys just two blocks down than a burger from here. But, the BBQ is pretty decent. They use good spices and rubs for their BBQ. I’ve also heard this from others who live near me, always go there when it’s busy because the food is fresh. Never go during off hours. And, yes the customer service is lacking and«can» come with a side of attitude. But, as I said before you get what you expect :)

OK I’m all about simple menu’s I don’t need 400 choices. This place has too much selection, I went in and expected a small place that’s only open for a small window during the Morning into the afternoon to have a straight forward Menu not to mention the fact its called BURGERDELIGTHT?! Charity and I went in and we were standing in a line. that made the expectation even higher **must be good if there is a line** then I heard the lady behind the counter barking orders and being slightly rude to the customers… again I thought this might just be schtick and not how the service really is… yep I was wrong across the board… SERVICE Non existent. Food is average at best… price was the only thing that helped give it one star because its cheap. Past that McDonalds gets higher marks for EVERYTHING compared to Burger Delight… DON’T WASTEYOURTIME!

This place is pretty historic, it has been here since 1962(says the non-biodegradable polystyrene cups). I have been here for both lunch and breakfast quite a few times now and I keep going back. I always get the BBQ pulled pork meal for $ 8.99. It includes seasoned fries and a drink. The fries are always made to order in my experience and they’re pretty awesome. They’re like ¼ potato spears, so they’re pretty big. I can only eat like 2 of them before I’m potatoed-out. They also have a lot of burgers on their menu. Notably, the«Cheeseburger Royale», which I can’t help but to chuckle at being a ‘Pulp Fiction’ fan. They serve fresh brewed iced tea here. They also serve Sierra Mist, which I thought was worth mentioning because it is somewhat rare to find in restaurants. The pulled pork here is not covered in barbecue sauce like you find at most places around here, this is Eastern-North Carolina BBQ. It is instead seasoned with pepper and vinegar. This is the first and only place where I’ve had North Carolina BBQ, but I think that its great and I keep going back for more. For breakfast, I’ve only had their French Toast. It’s pretty good and the price is great, only $ 3 for 3 slices of French Toast with«Buttery Margarine». To add bacon, or any other meat(sausage and scrapple are also available) it is an additional $ 5.99 which I find to be a little steep. I’ve had the bacon and it’s nothing special, definitely not worth paying $ 6 for a few pieces of it. There is a number of other breakfast items available too. One of their specialties is fresh baked peach and apple cobbler. I’ve only had the peach cobbler because they haven’t had the apple cobbler when I’ve tried to order it in the past, but it was pretty good. I believe that it was about $ 2.35 for a small cup. I prefer apple over peach anyday though. I have also had a piece of their 3 layer choclate cake and I thought that it was really good. I couldn’t help but to think that it kind of looked like the chocolate cake from the movie Matilda. You know, the one the cafeteria lady used her own«blood, sweat, and tears» to make. The hours here are a bit unusual, but the food is worth the effort to get here when its open. On the contrary to what some of the other reviews here say, they DO accept credit cards here, I just used mine here this morning. I have even posted a picture of the Visa/MasterCard stickers on the door. This place is definitely worth giving a try!
